Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S120 2.0 Multimedia Speakers

Customer Review: Good value for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

These are OK speakers for casual music listeners, and are a great buy for non-music audio stuff, like the latest web ads from Obama or McCain.

These speakers are very small, and have an ordinary 2 prong electric plug, no external transformer. Nice.

As to music, for $11, pretty good, but I'd recommend you spend more like $20 if music is your main deal. I've been listening to some CDs that I'm very familiar with and the bass response with these little guys cuts off at the lower mid-range. Not terrible, but I think for a few bucks more, music reproduction would be better.

My musical test is The Flamin' Groovies, an ordinary rock band, in terms of frequency response. The speakers are light in the bass, and overly responsive on the high end.

BOTTOM LINE: Good value for the money, but for music, a few additional bucks will probably be worth the expense.

Customer Review: Good basic speakers, but short & strange wiring
Summary: 4 Stars

These are inexpensive speakers - so don't expect symphony hall sound out of them. They are basic speakers, and for that purpose, they do quite well.

The oddities - the wires are too short. They barely reach from next to my monitor down to my "desktop" computer, which is actually on a CPU shelf near floor level. The real strange thing, though, is the wiring configuration: one wire goes from the AC plug to one speaker; the next wire goes from that speaker to the control speaker; the last wire goes from the control speaker to the CPU. That's right - each speaker has a wire to an external connection, as well as a wire between the two speakers. Strange.

And, as noted - the instructions refer to both pink and green connectors; but there is actually only a green one (in addition to the power cord).

Other than that, they are fine, and about what you'd expect.

Customer Review: Already had to replace it twice
Summary: 2 Stars

I give it 5 stars for sound, ease of use, etc. But as for durability I only gave 1 star. I already had two of these speakers fail on me. The first one I had the right side speaker went dead on me in 2 months no mater what I did it would not come back on so I got a 2nd one. As for the second one as soon as I got it out of the box and plugged it into my computer it would not work properly I got a loud crackling noise that over powered the sound that was being played from my game or music video. I plugged in a different pair of speaker and they played just fine no crackling at all but as soon as I plugged these back in the crackling sound was back. Even when these speakers were unplugged from my computer the crackling sound still continued. All though I must say that Logitech customer service has been very helpful and are well on their way to send me my third one to replace my last one

Customer Review: Great basic speakers - can't be beat at this price level.
Summary: 5 Stars

You can generally count on Logitech to manufacture quality components. In this case, these speakers have decent sound quality, are super simple to set-up and take up little space as their combined footprint is pretty small. I also like having a manual on/off and volume switch to grab if the phone rings or if I need a temporary boost in volume. I bought this set to enhance the audio of my ViewSonic monitor. I knew the monitor didn't have good sound when I bought it so I added a pair of these speakers to the budget to compensate and I haven't been disappointed yet. I have a minor hearing impediment to begin with, so my listening needs aren't the same as those an audiophile would have. I just want to be able to watch videos and movies and perhaps listen to my ipod every once in a while. If you have higher expectations your needs will be best met in a much higher price bracket.

Customer Review: Great speakers for under $10
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these elsewhere and got them for just under $10 with free shipping. They pack a lot of punch for such small speakers. Very sleek design with a black matte color. This means unlike the glossy ones that end up as dust magnets these are not. A good weight that suggests quality and a clean looking front grill. The nice steady feet keep them in place and upright even when bumped. They have an easy access volume control and headphone input.

They could have something a little less glaring than the bright orange power light...green or blue would have worked very well. It is the only thing that detracts from these otherwise aesthetically well designed Logitech Speakers. As a graphic designer I notice these detailed errors in product design. It is the single thing that kept them from being perfectly designed and detracted from the over all look of the products quality.
