I have now had this camera for well over 1 year without any problems. I use it mainly with Skype for talking with family, who live out of state, and monitoring my office at night and weekends. The only problem I experienced was not with the camera but when I attempted to upgrade my Skype for Windows Software to the latest version. For some unknown reason the video was blurry as though the camera could not keep up with the new software. I tried several fixes without any success. I finally went back the the previous Skype for Windows version and I have had no problems since. I am using Windows XP SP3 with an Intel Q9550 Quad Core Processor at the office and stream it to my home system an Duo Core iMac. I also use Call Recorder for Skype from Ecamm Network on the iMac to record the video to an external Iomega 160GB portable hard drive via USB. I can record approximately 1.5 hours of video per 1GB of drive space with my current settings.Customer Review: Great for families

If you use skype etc for contacting relatives, this webcam is perfect for those with young kids who won't sit still and move around while talking to grandma during the video call. When your kids come to the computer the lens tracks down to their level (and follows them around) and then tracks back up when an adult resumes: no more fiddling and adjusting the angle of the cam. Also for kids who really won't sit still, its very easy to pick the whole thing up (on its stand) and move it around, pointing it wherever you want in the room i.e where the kids are. This is especially 'do-able' as the USB cable of this webcam is a decent length.
The kids will love the animated masks that they can play with too.
The camera provides excellent image quality in low light and excellent quality of you want to record regular videos - with the long USB cable it can even work as a video camera (in a pinch) in your room.

I own a Logitech Quickcam 4000, two 5000s, this orbit plus just ordered a 9000. I fought with myself for quite some time on whether to order the cheaper 9000 or the orbit with the pivoting internal movement capabilities, but in the end evidently made the wrong choice.
Don't get me wrong, the quality's nice, and comparable to my 5000's, it's not bad, however I ran into one major flaw (other than the whole it cannot be mounted on your screen, so you have to move it elsewhere thing) - It cannot handle brightly lit rooms! This is the complete opposite of what I've experienced with every other webcam I've ever owned. They always do great in daylight, but poorly in low light situations. This one is pretty much worthless if you've got any daylight at all (even muted behind curtains), behind you when you're attempting to use it, but at night it works fantastically. I'm stuck only using it once it's dark outside. :(

I was asked to be a guest in a video conference, so I needed a webcam. I've had good luck with Logitech's other products and I knew they had a good reputation with webcams, so I wasn't afraid to invest in a top-of-the-line unit. A lot of other users have accurately identified the strong and the weak points of this unit, and my experience matches theirs. It's a solidly-constructed webcam with good quality pictures and a lot of useful features.
The important thing about this camera is that because it is a high-end unit and because it does have a lot of features, you're not going to get the best out of it unless you open up the settings panel and experiment, tweaking and fine-tuning to see what the unit can do and what looks best in your room.
My recommendation, however, is that it is best suited for a multi-processor machine.

The product is everything that it was said to be and more. The clarity
is spectacular. I am using it with Windows Live Messenger. The motion sensor is a great plus as well as the versatility of head of the cam having an automatic ability to move so far to the left and the right using the face tracking feature. I bought it to use to communicate with my nephew on the East Coast and whether it is used for one person or several people in front of the lens it does a great job of maintaining focus on all. Sound quality, quick focus, auto light adjusting feature all are fantistic. I can even set this in my window and have it monitor the front of my home as a security unit with the motion sensor on. Needless to say I am very pleased and would recommend this unit to others looking for a mid range unit with great performance.
