I decided to purchase a webcam, and as long as I was going to get one I figured I might as well get a good one. I had a dinky one many years ago, so old it wouldn't even work with today's operating systems. One feature I knew I wanted the new cam to have is autofocus. This Logitech Orbit delivers a beautiful picture indeed. I've read just about all the previous reviews, the positive and the negative. Yes, the servo that controls the "follow me" movement of the camera isn't perfect, but it's good and I'll learn how to work with it. The manual controls are easy to use anyway and they work fine. The built in microphone is excellent. All the other commenters that said how easy the driver is to install are all correct. Setup was a piece of cake (you do have to disable any security software prior to installation.) For me, the most pleasant surprise was all the little features like avatars etc. They are really fun! In sum, great pictures, great sound, easy install, great extras. I love it! I wish I had enough technical expertise to know how to set the webcam away from the computer, to use like a security cam. I'd appreciate any suggestions.Customer Review: Good Buy

I have owned many web cams from Logitech, Creative, Microsoft et al and I always buy the camera with the best specs,nothing cheap. This camera performs very well as a video chat camera with very good images, a wide field and a great microphone. I use it regularly with Live Messenger with friends and family all over the world and they have all commented on how clear and crisp the picture is and that the sound is clear and audible. It also takes very good still photographs for sending by e-mail (I haven't tried printing them but I would imagine they would be very acceptable at standard (4x6) size. The face tracking is adequate but I find with my setup (I sit four to six feet from the camera) this is not really important. The microphone pickup works very well at this distance.
One draw back is the stand is far too short for standing behind a monitor (where the camera should be) and I had to make up my own extension. Logitech might want to look into selling a stand with an adjustable feature like a tripod (one leg from an old one is what I used for making my stand). I would rate this a good investment for sending sharp video and clear audio.

I purchased this Cam because it was recommended by SKYPE which was what I wanted to use to connect with my grandkids in Maine from our house in Michigan. This one was more costly than others available on the market. Setup was very easy, although the amount of instructions on how to do it was minimal. With a little fooling around I was able to get it to work properly. Downloading the required software from SKYPE was straight forward, but how to make a connection was not easily apparent. Once you do it, you don't know why it took you so long to do it the first time. One had to go thru HELP screens and then they were not too clear. Some instructions worked and others didn't. It probably depends on your computer. Mine was a Dell PC. Images received from Maine were relatively clear although movement caused a lot of blurring. I use a high speed internet connection rated at 5 meg and I am sure that if you had higher speed connections blurring would be less. Still images were best.j The capability of the CAM to follow a persons movement is a plus and does work well. All in all, I am very satisfied with the product and its capabilities.Customer Review: Exceptionally poor audio quality

I like the Logitec Orbit AF webcam. However, I DO NOT LIKE the audio quality. You need to set the mic setting to almost nothing and practically whisper to have the audio come out without a very bad scratch noise interfering with everything you say.
I am using mine with a laptop. I have positioned the cam everywhere to try to stop the distortion in the audio - without success.
I returned my first one thinking it was a bad unit. The replacement does the same thing.
I found to set the mic level to almost nothing and then talk softly to get most of the scratch noise eliminated - but not all.
I tested making videos by muting the webcam's mic and then using my computer's built-in mics with success - no noise.
I successfully tested making a video using a headset (phones and mic), that I often use for private Skype calls. The video's audio came out just fine.
I tested using a very cheap mic from WallyWorld. The video audio was fine.
SO, the problem seems clearly to be the mic built into the Logitech Orbit AF webcam.

Customer Review: Great webcam when you learn how to use it

I have had this webcam since September of 2008. It was a last-minute purchase when some guests were not able to attend my wedding, and we used this camera to broadcast the wedding online. I struggled with finding the right program to use that worked the best, but that has nothing to do with this camera anyway. Nevertheless, Skype has worked very well.
The camera is sturdy (but be sure you handle it the way the instructions say) and works just perfectly. It will follow your face if you'd like, so if you are moving around a room it will follow your movements. You can also take photos of yourself and add fun accessories, like a half-robot face or an arrow through your head. There are many other features, so be sure to read the instructions to get full use out of the camera.
I haven't had any trouble with this camera; the sound and picture quality is excellent and the best that I have seen from any of my webcams. If price isn't an issue I would recommend this camera, whether using it for work conferences or to keep in touch with family. My parents and sister ended up getting the same camera.
