Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 ( 980374-0403 )Customer Review: Good quality, decent performance Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 primarily to use for VOIP.
Pros:
- Good quality construction
- Comfort is okay. Padded ear phones. Frame not too stiff.
- Noise canceling microphone seems to work.
- Long cord.
- Both Windows XP Home Edition and Mac OS X 10.4.7 recognize the USB hardware without difficulty.
- Audio quality is good.
- My recorded voice quality is fine.
- My voice quality while talking over Skype is okay (as decent as my connection can be).
Cons:
- I expected the microphone recording volume could be louder. Might be solved with software that improves gain.
- As others reported, I had difficulty with the inline volume control. The mute button is very sensitive to touch. +/- volume control works fine. The blue mute status light stopped glowing after a week of use -- less than 5 hours overall. (Mute still functions, but I no longer have visual indicator when mute is active.)
I think it's a decent investment for the price range ($30-50).
Customer Review: PAINfully Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
Note the emphasis on "pain." These are AMAZINGLY uncomfortable. They have these plastic pads with sort of a stitched rim right around the speakers. This causes the area around the speaker to be stiff and it forms a protruding ring that digs into your ears. It seriously feels like you have your head in a vice and there's no real way to lessen the sensation of these things digging into your outer ears. Even extending the arms of the headphones does not seem to relieve any pressure. Even for short periods of time these hurt a lot to wear. I haven't worn mine since last night and even as I'm writing this, my outer ears are visibly red and it hurts to put a phone to my ear.
The microphone seems to be decent, but the sound quality of the headphones is lacking. They do get loud, and they do have a fair amount of bass, but it's not at all crisp. It sounds like the annoying neighbor in the apartment below you is playing a videogame with his sound system turned up full blast or like you're listening through a pillow, which would probably feel a lot better.
Customer Review: For use with voice recognition software Summary: 5 Stars
I am paralyzed, and I have used voice recognition software to control my computer for over 19 years. This is unequivocally the best headset I've ever used for purposes of controlling a computer with voice recognition software. Some of the drawbacks with voice recognition are that they are not durable, they do not play audio clearly, and (most importantly) they do not understand audio commands correctly. This headset has background noise reduction that actually reduces background noise! I can dictate to my computer while people talk, someone washes dishes, and the television is on only a few feet away without much hassle. Voice recognition software scores your audio system when you are training it. How have received the highest quality audio scores during training of this headset, even with background noise, then I have on any other headset I have owned. It is extremely easy to use with the USB port and built-in software. If you are paralyzed, or if you simply used voice recognition software for any reason, I would suggest using this headset!
Customer Review: Great headset so far Summary: 5 Stars
I was very concerned by other reviews indicating this headset was uncomfortable and/or painful to use. Despite this concern, I proceeded with purchasing it, and I am glad I did! When I first opened the package, I was worried by how bulky it looked. And, admittedly, it was somewhat tight first placing it on my head. So I took others' suggestions and broke it in. It was very simple, I just placed it over my computer tower case for a couple minutes. Since then, I barely feel it on my head.
Audio quality is great, almost too good! I was replacing an old headset I had had for quite some time. I was using vonage to talk to my wife on the new headset and she was complaining that I was very loud. So I turned the microphone volume almost all the way down. With my old headset, I had to have the volume up all the way for other people to hear me.
Installation was also a breeze (with Windows XP). I plugged it in, and it was working within seconds.
Overall, I am very satisfied and would highly recommend this headset.
Customer Review: Bad design, uncomfortable, and cheap plastic that breaks Summary: 1 Stars
One day while I was wearing the headphones for about 20 minutes, for no
apparent reason, one side broke, while they were sitting on my head. I know I didn't do anything to cause this, I attribute it to a bad design, and perhaps cheap plastic. So I taped the one side back on with electrical tape.
About 2 months later, again, while the earphones were on my head for quite some time, the opposite side broke. I taped that side too.. Now, I do enjoy the sound that comes from these headphones, so I figured that I could live with the tape.
Yes, they did hurt my ears when worn for more than 1/2 hour like everyone else is mentioning.
Well today, the tape gave way, and they broke again.
The sound quality is there. As far as the manufacturing quality, the only thing that seems to be made very well, is the shiny Logitech logo on the side of the earphone.
I hope Logitech learned from this mistake and will put more effort into finding a better manufacturer of their products.
