Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 ( 980374-0403 )

Customer Review: Not inspired - barely "okay"
Summary: 3 Stars

I was looking for a stereo USB headphone with a mic, and read lots of reviews before ordering this set. I am not impressed. They do FINE for VOIP telephony. Not great. But fine. They do not have the needed fidelity to do any serious music listening, but that is not what they were made for.

In addition to using these with SKYPE, I also wanted to be able to do podcasts and use the USB mic to record into Garageband. The headsets were plug and play. The Mac recognized them immediately. The sound quality was poor, I was not impressed and had to do some work on the track before using it. The noise filter picked up my ceiling fan, so I was bummed about that.

Okay, small thing, but anyone who builds (or uses!) headphones knows that the chord goes on the left side. This headset switches it for some reason, which makes me nuts. I am sure Logitec had a reason for breaking with this convention, but it is very odd.

Comfort: forget it. the cushions on the phone are useless, the band over the head is hard, and the phones are tight on my head. No extended use.

Stereo sound: yes, the stereo sound is recognizable. 'Nuff said.

1- Use with Skype or other VOIP. It's probably going to be a fine headphone for you.
2- listen to music? Limited use. You'd do better elsewhere.
3- Mic quality: not great.
4- Ease of use: on a Mac, I plugged them in and they worked!

Would I buy them now that I know what they are like? No.
Am I sending them back? Missed the deadline, and they are useful with VOIP, but they won't get much use.

Hope this helps!

Customer Review: Inferior wiring and poor QC
Summary: 1 Stars

I have this as a gift and the warranty has just expired. The sound quality is not the best but still good enough. However the mic has developed a major problem, it keeps buzzing or humming. It is so loud that you can not hear what you are recording. It only goes away when you hit the mute button. Well it does not serve the purpose in recording anything at all. In the beginning I suspected I might have a defective grounding in my PC and laptop just like other people think. After failing in identifying and fixing the defective ground issue, I decided to dismantle it apart. What shock me is the quality of the wiring which connecting the microphone and speaker are so filmsy. Due to the tight space and glue created stress load applied against wire connection bewteen the mike boom and the headset, I found an open circuit in the mic wire that caused the loud humming sound. I believed this is the main reason why many complaints regarding the sound in and out from the speakers and plus the humming noise in recording after using it for a while. Very intersting it always happened right after the warrenty is expired. LOL. The quality of the wiring just not durable and the soldering joints are poorly done.

My own personal opinion is Logitech has a quality control issue. I feel very disappointed and sad that logitech does have a good product design but in order keep the profit margin higher by using the inferior wiring and poor craftsmanship to save a few cents. Eventually ruined the good quality of the headset and reputation.

Customer Review: LOGITECH, AN ILLOGIGAL CHOICE.
Summary: 1 Stars

I don't know if the fellas at Logitech even test this garbage. I tried their webcam a few years ago, and it didn't pan out well; same story hear. First off, I don't know why they can't make a comfortable headset. My ears felt like lobsters slicing away at the flesh. What about the type of headset that have that ribbon type thing that hangs softly atop your head; I had one of those a few years ago, and I'm still using it, it's great, but the microphone is out. When I saw USB headset's I figure now it's time to get one. Just not with Logitech stamped on it. Maybe this is a fundamental flaw with all USB headsets.. but when you plug it into you USB, it cancels out all your other equipment connected to it. Lame! I Tried to resolve this issue by looking for drivers that may update this problem; Logitech doesn't even hae software support for this item!!! It gets worse. I have this TV Card on my PC that I jack my cable box into directly to my sound card for audio, and when I try to listen to it through these garbage muffs, I discover that the option for "Line-In" has completely vanished, and Logitech replaces the sound card default in the audio menu, cancelling it out. My sound card is fine, I just wanted a USB that mirrors what my other headset did, offer and alternate way to listen from the digital speakers I have plugged in... wait a minute... I just discovered writing this article that they are out. What a pathetic waste of time. I'm just going to have to find another headset, because Logitech is an Illogical choice.

Customer Review: Audio Quality is fine, but they are a little uncomfortable
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought 2 sets of these of these, primarily for use with Skype.

From an audio perspective, the combination of a good headset and a VoIP client blows the socks off of traditional telephony (which is limited to an 8kHz spectrum) and large TelCos should be very nervous :)

Windows XP accepted the device with no fuss on 2 different machines.

The earpieces are a little hard and I can't imagine wearing these fulltime, but for Skype calls, they're ideal. The boom mic swivels allowing you to flip the headset around depending on whether you prefer the mic on the left or right.

The clarity is great, however.

A trick for Skype users: because this device is actually also a sound card, each time you plug and unplug, Skype may switch which device it attaches to. This can be annoying, as it may lock on to the headset and divert the ringtone to the headset and not your speakers, so you may miss a call. You can work around that, however, by setting Audio Devices in the Skype Options menu on the Tools drop down.

I have set it to use my Speakers for the ringtone, but the Headset to be the Input/Output device. Remember to DISallow Skype from changing this in the future (there's a checkbox on that screen)

Now I leave the headset plugged in 24x7 and still hear the Skype "ring" on my PC Speakers.

Finally, the price. These were $15 more expensive in a large big-box electronics store. For this price, these are a no-brainer!

Customer Review: Falls short in a few ways
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this for use with Skype on a Mac, and it definitely didn't live up to expectations. It worked, but not at all well.

The headset seems solidly constructed, and it looks quite nice. The mute button works, and the volume buttons (though slow) work as well and are quite handy.

Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. First, when I plug it in to my Powerbook, it just doesn't work. I have to go to the Audio control panel and click the "Mute" box twice (to mute, then un-mute) before it'll work. A few people have had this problem, it seems, from the entry on MacOSXhints.com.

Add to that the fact, as a user mentioned below, that they're quite tight. Admittedly, I've got a substantial hat size, but the cups barely reach, and they're tight enough to cut off circulation to my ears. I have to keep adjusting them, which makes loud noises.

Finally, and worst, the microphone just doesn't pick up my voice very well. It's fairly short -- that might be the reason, I don't know. But the person I'm talking to has to jack up his headphone volume in order to hear me. That's okay for two people, but when a third person joined our conversation, his voice nearly made the second person's ears bleed. It was hard, a lot harder than it should have been, to find a happy medium.

For someone with a smaller head who only wants two-way conversations, these could be a perfectly fine set of headphones. But they sure don't work for me.
