Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 ( 980374-0403 )Customer Review: just average... Summary: 3 Stars
i got this headset so i could play cs:s and have a mic, and i thought that they would be great to just use as headphones as well. i was pretty dissappointed when i got them though.
the first thing i will say is that these are fairly uncomfortable. the padding is very hard, and it rests on the outside of the ear, and it kind of pinches you. you can get more used to it, but it is still very uncomfortable after long periods of time. secondly, the sound quality in these is what i would describe as almost terrible. when i first bought these, i was interested by the whole "usb headset" thing, but it turned out to be a problem, not a good thing. because these are usb controlled, they act as their own sound card, but they do not sound good. there is two major problems with these, 1. is that you can not differentiate left from right, everything is mono (which is terrible for games), 2. is that the midrange and high end is completely muddled and crappy.
with that said, i will move on to the better points of this headset. first of all, the mic is excellent, it takes great recordings and filters out a lot of annoying background noise. second is the volume control, the button included is very handy and works well. this is an example of some of the pluses of the "usb" part.
the usb feature is only beneficial if you have an absolutely terrible onboard sound card, if you have anything other than that, you are hurting yourself. one other thing though, it is truly plug-and-play, but the only thing you have to worry about is that you have the headset plugged in before you launch any application that you are going to use it in, otherwise it will default to your other sound device.
lastly, i would say that if you get this headset, understand that you will be using it for communications (using the mic) only, and that this headset can not double as any form of decent headphones. so if you are looking for only a good mic, then these are a reasonable option (if you have tough ears).
i think i would also recomend getting the model lower than this, i think it is the 250, which is not usb. that would save you some money and allow you to use your sound card (if you have one).
Customer Review: Reasonably priced, excellent quality headset--with microphone, too !!! Summary: 5 Stars
Logitech really scores a goal with this awesome headset and microphone for your computer or any other device that has a USB port! It was easy to install into a USB plug and play port; and I have used this for several months now without any regrets.
The sound quality is excellent from the headphones which are indeed plush and exceptionally comfortable. The microphone works well with your computer when you are using chat live software that requires a microphone. The microphone frequency response range of 20-20,000 Hz truly impresses me for a headset this affordable.
The headband is also adjustable. Initially, I had the headband just too tight and after an hour or so of watching a movie on my computer my head began to ache! The remedy was simple: I merely adjusted the headband to be an inch or two longer so that the headset wouldn't actually touch my head. I remain very satisfied.
Another feature of this headset that works wonders is the volume control. You can actually use the volume control to increase the volume beyond which your computer may be capable of achieving! Don't ask me how they pulled that one off; I'm not that savvy about technology. However, the adjustable volume on the headsets proves to be a major selling point. The noise canceling microphone impresses me, too.
Some people complain that the volume control isn't placed right on the cord between the headset and the USB port; but I haven't had a problem with this even though I have short arms myself.
Overall, you just can't get a better headset with a built in noise canceling microphone for this price. Logitech did a great job with this headset and I highly recommend it for people who want quality without spending a small fortune for a headset with a microphone.
Great job, Logitech!
Customer Review: Failed to connect to a Mac Summary: 1 Stars
This product is labelled as Mac compatible. I have an iBook G4 running OS X (10.3.9). The computer consistently detected the presence of the Logitech USB 350 Headset, whether I connected it directly to the notebook USB ports, or to a USB 2.0 hub. The microphone always worked.
The headphones seldom worked. Sound seldom came out through the headphones, even though the headset was detected by the computer (confirmed in System Preferences, Sound, Output) and selected as the output device. I changed volume settings, USB ports , USB hubs, and connecting before and after rebooting, and no combination gave consistent sound output through the headphones. The computer would send the sound to the headphones (it would stop coming out of the built-in speakers), but the sound would not come out of the headphones. When it did work, the sound quality was fine.
Little troubleshooting information was in the manual or on the Logitech website.
I had trouble with the in-line volume and mute control. It is a three-way rocker-type switch; pushing one end makes the output volume louder, the other end makes the output volume softer, and pushing in the middle mutes the microphone. Louder and muting worked. When pushing softer I would inadvertently mute the microphone most of the time--quite annoying.
The ear pads are bigger than the kind that just sit lightly on my ears, but they aren't big enough for the ear pad ring to rest against my skull instead of on the ear itself, flattening the ear against my head. I found it uncomfortable after 20 minutes.
I'm happy with my other Logitech products, but I'm disappointed with this one and I'm returning the headset for replacement with a different brand.
Customer Review: Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk Summary: 5 Stars
I was content with my Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 Headset. I purchased a set for everyone in our house except my daughter. She was in love with my Sony MDR-XD100 Stereo Headphonesthat I also purchased through Amazon. I was unaware that Microsofts product was fragile until one day I bumped them and they fell 3 feet to the floor and broke the right ear piece and wiring. I started my search for headsets again and decided that Logitech's brand was what I needed. I was not concerned with price, I was concerned with clarity and ease of use, the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 ( 980374-0403 )just sealed the deal with a price that basically covered shipping. When it arrived at my doorstep 4 days later, I was convinced that this was meant to be. I raced to the computer room and spent what seemed like eons trying to open the packaging. It was well packed, and kept from harms way. When it finally gave in, I grabbed the USB tab and plugged it in and off we went. It really was just seconds for the install and it was in remarkable condition.
One thing I would suggest to people interested in purchasing this device is to go out and get a copy of the Documentation so they are aware of what to do. The headset did not come with drivers but instead used drivers that seemed to be developed for Logitech and its devices. This is a wonderful product and I'm sure this headset will be around for a long time despite the fact that this model was discontinued.
Customer Review: GREAT SOUND & HOW TO FIX A TIGHT HEADSET Summary: 4 Stars
Having read all the reviews I got this set this week. The sound is excellent and I like the in-line volume control. This is my first such headset that I am using with Skype. My callers said my voice was very clear and I found them to be likewise. I felt like they were in the same room with me. This was much better than my cell phone connection and a bit better than my land line phone.
To set it up on a Win XP platform, I just plugged in the USB and I was operational in seconds with no further adjustments. I also have to say that the SKYPE download of software was easy and I loaded that on two computers with the same result. Yeah Skype!
As others have mentioned the head set is uncomfortable as they haven't provided enough ear padding and/or the width of the padding is to little. I wear eyeglasses and after 15 minutes the headset was digging into my temples. HERE IS A FIX to make them comfortable. First, create something to allow the headset to stay open. For example, get a box that is about 7 inches in width and put the box between the ear pieces as if the headset were sitting on your head. Leave it in place for 24 hours. This allows the plastic to flex. After 24 hours, with the headset still on the box, use a hair dryer (I used my on the 1875 watt heat setting) and direct the air flow to the head band area keeping it about 5 inches away from the head band. Leave it on for about 3-5 minutes (perhaps longer if your dyer offers less than 1875 watts of heat). After that, leave the headset on place on the box for 10 minutes. Your done. The headset will now fit less tightly!! If this works for you too, please tell others by posting a comment.
