Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Precision GamepadCustomer Review: It's precise. It's logical. It's the Logitech Precision. Summary: 5 Stars
You may need a hacksaw to free this PC gamepad from its prison of plastic packaging, but once you do you'll be delighted to find a well-constructed and user-friendly product. Just plug the cord on this attractive ultramarine blue controller into the USB slot on your computer (I'm using Windows XP) and start gaming. I bought this to play old-school games on GameTap and it works great. I've successfully used it with classics like Metal Slug; Prehistoric Isle; Captain Commando; Ghouls `N Ghosts; Vampire Savior; Colin McRae Rally; and Mutation Nation. Just click on "Edit Controllers," assign a button to each action and click "Apply."
The Logitech Precision is shaped exactly like a PlayStation controller, but without those little joystick things. It has a so-called "Advanced D-pad" on the left side, four round buttons on the right side and two small square buttons in between. Also, there are four additional buttons on the back. And each button is numbered for your convenience. This handy gaming gizmo sure beats having to fiddle with the arrow keys on your keyboard. Order yours today and get ready for some serious thumb-numbing fun!
Customer Review: Best in class Summary: 4 Stars
This is a Pretty Good controller. No problems with PNP hardware recognition on my home-built PC and a number of different NES/SNES emulators, they feel durable and for the price are hard to beat. I wish the cords were about 2 feet longer, but I'm quibbling.
I've played way too much Super Metroid in my day on the actual SNES, though, which to me is still the standard for best play control ever on any system, and compared to the real thing the play control on these pads is not quite accurate. On all the games I know best (SMB, SMB3, SMW, all the Zeldas) I noticed the same thing...not quite as rapid response, not quite as delicate. I don't know if that's an effect of USB in general or this pad, but it's definitely not "as good as the real thing."
If you're looking for the real deal, there are kits and products that convert actual controllers to USB inputs, and if you're really hardcore that might be a better solution for you. Then again, unless you have real controllers sitting around that would probably cost a bit more.
Basically, it's really good, really easy, really cheap, but not perfect.
Customer Review: A solid gamepad for emulator use! Summary: 5 Stars
Not since the 1992 Gravis Gamepad have I used such a solid controller. As in one that actually works without any extra frills. The Logitech Precision has many more buttons and a USB interface. So, in addition to the D-pad on the left and the four-button cluster on the right there are also two buttons in the middle that can be configured as "select" and "start" buttons. Above the D-pad and the button cluster are two extra buttons on top for extra options. They're like the extra buttons on a SNES gamepad but there are more of them.
The only problem is remember what to use the buttons for. But, since this is a fully digital controller, all buttons can be programmed for whatever you like. It all depends on the game support.
When compared to Micro$quish's budget SideWinder controller this one is by far superior and doesn't suffer from the design drawback of rotating the D-pad where if you press down your on-screen character does move down and not diagonal. The price is very good as well. For oldskool gaming, such as NES and Doom gaming, it gets the job done. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Sometimes the Best Things are the Cheapest Summary: 5 Stars
No matter how good a keyboard is, sometimes games demand controllers. And there's hardly a better or simpler controller than the Logitech Precision. It's cheap, it's comfortable, it lasts well and is super-easy to set up.
A USB drive on your computer is all this gadget needs for you to start gaming. The controller is light as a feather and fits comfortably into your hands. Your thumbs are usually all you need to navigate the D-pad and the four standard buttons, leaving your other fingers free to operate the four buttons on top of the controller. All in all, there are a whopping 10 buttons on this slim, plastic product, all cleverly labelled with numbers and comfortable to press. The responsiveness is excellent; I have yet to encounter a dud moment where a button won't work when I expect it to. The design makes it possible to emulate a large number of machines, from the NES to the Nintendo 64.
Don't let the price fool you, this is a top-quality product guaranteed to make playing games on your PC even more fun. Not to mention is the design beautiful.
Customer Review: Logitech was very precise on their precision gamepad Summary: 5 Stars
One very big problem I have with every controller ever invented besides the regular nintendo controller is that the control pads are horrible. You'll press down and it'll move down diagonally right or they will be too small and when you go to press a direction you actually hit two directions.
The control pad on the Logitech Precision is state of the art and the controller design is remarkable. The controller has a slick, smooth design that fits comfortably in your hands.
You'd think that a controller with 10 buttons would be cluttered but the Precision has the buttons evenly distributed and allows for many options. I am very impressed by the response of the controller and the versatility it allows with all the buttons.
The Logitech Precision is one of the few complete controllers out there. If you are a fan of the SNES/PS controllers then this is definitly the controller for you.
