Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Optical USB MouseCustomer Review: Disappointing Mouse Summary: 1 Stars
I have to say that of all the Logitech mice I have used (this would probably be the fifth or so), this might be my least favorite of them all.
For me, the biggest issue is with the clicking on the scroll wheel. It is obnoxiously loud compared to any other mouse I have, a very hollow and cheap-mouse sound when you click it. Not what I expected at this price point. I have cheaper Logitech mice that are much better looking and better functioning and they are whisper quiet by comparison.
I've also noticed that if you try to use the side scrolling feature (left/right) and press even a little bit too hard to the side, you will inadvertently click the scroll wheel downward, which is very annoying. Again, this is something that makes it feel like a cheap mouse.
It's also very light weight and slimmer than most mice. I think if you have moderate to large hands, this mouse will be a poor fit. I've considered returning this mouse, but I bought it for use at work in my cubical and not at home, so it's still better than the crappy IBM mouse I have over there. That said, if it was for home use, I'd have returned it. I don't feel it was a good use of my money and I think a much nicer mouse could have been had for the same price.
My advice is to pass on this one if you're interested in a quality optical mouse. The tracking is good on this model (compare to other opticals anyway), to be sure, but the quality is just not there. I have seen similar mice with the same model number, perhaps a new version, but cannot comment on those. The one pictured here, however, is definitely not worth purchasing.
Customer Review: Great mouse, great price Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoy this mouse, how quickly you can move it and how small it feels in your hand while giving you perfect control. I actually bought it for gaming, to replace a microsoft mouse which had a button worn out. I guessed that its smaller size would make it faster to use and I was correct. It zips around the screen effortlessly causing much less strain on my wrist. I think you're supposed to move mice in general with your fore arm, but most people end up using their wrists which causes significant stress on it. At least with this one, the wrist fatigue is drastically reduced. For example, I bought it to play Starcraft II, as I used to tire out after 30 minutes. Now I can go a few hours without discomfort.
The only thing that wouldn't make this a perfect mouse is that the cord is a little stiffer than I'm used to (though it breaks in over time). Even then if they were to change that it would probably make the cord less sturdy. So it is probably as good as it gets with corded mice. I prefer corded mice so that's not an issue. Batteries cause wrist fatigue.
As for precision, I personally don't believe you will see a difference after 1000 dpi, and if you do it won't be enough to matter. I don't believe in high end mice, to me it's just paying 3-5 times the money for mice that are marginally better if they are better at all. I've used Microsoft mice my whole life, and just assumed they were better for the brand name but this is quite a satisfying departure.
Customer Review: Windows 7 Mouse Freezes Ignored Summary: 2 Stars
I've used this for years, in its ps/2 vesion, & it worked fine under XP.
After loading Win7-64-Home in a new-built up-to-date PC, it also seemed OK.
But then after the unit had run, with no problems, for a while [downloading/installing antivirus software, attempting to identify Motherboard & GaphicsCard Driver updates and just viewing the various Win7 functions] I ran the MS Update which, in 7, prides itself in being able to also load the latest drivers for most all the popular peripherals.
What with the usual MS revisions, this amounted to a group of about 5 dozen items downloaded & installed.
And the mouse started getting "flakey"; and then it would freeze for a few sec; and then, while the keyboard continued to function, the mouse would freeze solid. On re-Boot it would work for 10 -20 min
& freeze up again.
These Logitech problems have been widely reported for over a year now [I don't know if Kingston & others have similar issues]; Logitech seems to just ignore them & MS only advises onerous trial & error proceedures ending in disabling of modern features that motivated us to make the expensive up-grades in the 1st place.
However, MS just might be 'motivated' in this by the fact that the only workable solution at present seems to be the purchase of a MS Mouse; or am I being unfair to 'Saint' Bill?
Customer Review: Basic, Simple & Reliable Mouse Summary: 4 Stars
If you are in the market for a very basic mouse that is the true essence of plug and play then this is your best bet. There is no fancy shape, no special design, no extra buttons to program and no flashy lights with this logitech mouse. You just plug it in and use it. I've had one for about a year now connected to my desktop and it is still working like the first day of use, so I bought this second one for use with my new laptop.
It's very easy to clean the smooth black surface and functions as it should. As a photogapher / Designer / Gamer it works perfectly fine for my needs. Some may want a mouse with a little more weight as it is rather light. Gamers may want a more high end mouse, but honestly if you can play really well you don't need those overpriced mice. Though they do work very well for what they are intended once you have the money to spend.
For those with bigger hands it's just right in size. Some males and some females with smaller hands may prefer a smaller mouse. The same goes for those who want a smaller travel size mouse. those tend to be too small for my hands and I'm not a big guy.
I would recommend this mouse to anyone who just needs a reliable and simple mouse.
Customer Review: Logitech Optical USB Mouse Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this wired mouse because a Microsoft wireless mouse that I bought here for use with my laptop (that I use in the Lazy Boy due to health issues) drove me crazy. The problems with that mouse were 1)it was forever getting out of sinc and having to be rebooted by pushing tiny buttons to reconfigure that sender and receiver and 2)it eats batteries like it is going out of style. This wired mouse does neither of those things. One niggling point due to how I use this mouse. I have to use the arm of the easy chair as a mouse pad and if the mouse moves even a fraction on the chair when it is just sitting there Windows 7 is set up to clear the screen, the one, of course, that I am busy typing on. A slight touch of the mouse returns the screen and all is well. I don't know whether that is a mouse issue at all. Likely a Windows 7 issue. I would prefer to just use the lower right corner to place the cursor on that to clear the screen. That works, but so does moving the mouse. So maybe it is just a glitch between the OS and the mouse configuration. In any case, I love the mouse and if anyone wants to buy a cheap Microsoft optical wireless mouse, little used but much cussed at, let me know. ;-)
