Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX3200 Cordless Desktop Laser (Black)Customer Review: I curse you, keyboard! Summary: 1 Stars
Lord, do I hate this keyboard. What a thorn in my side. Or rather, my Vista.
Gripes:
1. Software that comes with it not friendly. You either install the software or the keyboard doesn't work. Worse, once you install the software, you can't easily uninstall it. There's no shortcut for "Uninstall," for example. It's like it never occurred to Logitech that anybody would ever want to uninstall their software.
2. The software conflicted with my onboard soundcard! I found this hard to credit at first, since what does a mouse-and-keyboard combo have to do with your sound? Nevertheless, this thing monkeyed somehow with the output devices to the point where I couldn't get any sound. After uninstalling it, the sound came back. Re-installing it, the sound went away again. I have since installed a sound card anyhow, but what on earth was Logitech's software doing interfering with this?
3. Keyboard is incredibly inanely designed. Not all of the functionality buttons are customizable, that's a problem. But the real problem is that some of them cannot even be disabled. In particular, there is a little optical reader next to the left shift key that changes the magnification of the screen when you hit it. Unfortunately, your left pinky will be inadvertently hitting it all the time, messing with the view settings of whatever you're looking at. This little reader couldn't be assigned another function (e.g., do nothing) or disabled, so in the end I had to physically cover it up with duct tape to use my computer without harassment.
Customer Review: Not for me. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this keyboard and mouse combo about 8 months ago. This past weekend I finally had enough of it and gave it to my husband. He loves it (so far) and I am back to a wired keyboard and mouse, where I think I'll stay for a while.
My experience with this product is as follows;
The Keyboard:
While the keys are comfortably placed, it just proved to be too bulky for me. Also the LCD that displays the time and date doesn't light up, so I could never see it anyway unless I pulled the keyboard out and angled it just so. What really got on my nerves was the delay from hitting the CAPS button. It took about 4-5 seconds after hitting CAPS for it to take, and during that time my computer froze while it thought about it. Now, this could be my computer (my trusty friend is going on seven years now), or it could have been something disrupting the wireless signal (even though the base was about 10 inches away, at the most). I'm a fast typer, and while 5 seconds doesn't sound like a long time, it is when you're in a rhythm. Also while typing sometimes my pinkie finger would rest on the slider zoom feature on an area where I could not zoom and make a series of loud, system clicks. It scared the crap out of me the first few times until I finally figured out what it was.
The Mouse:
It's just too big for my hands. Very uncomfortable.
I gave this product 3 stars because it's not the greatest, but it's not the worst either. Just right there in the middle.
Customer Review: Review of Logitech MX3200 after 4 months of use Summary: 4 Stars
Well let's see... I love the style and feel of this keyboard and mouse. Although the black color requires frequent dusting to keep looking new, the overall appearance and quality feel of the components is excellent. The programmable features of the keyboard were easy to setup and have been perfect for my use of applications they were intended to enhance. Most of the time I forget to use one of these function key features (but that is more a comment on myself rather than the keyboard). I've had only one hiccup since installing this product. I began having an issue with the "L" key of all things. When I pressed it I got 5 or 6 of them popping up. The key did not seem to be sticking, so I logged on to Logitech support to request guidance. As is usual I was initially directed to a FAQ section to see if my problem was covered there. As is usual, my problems are always unique and never covered in a FAQ so I wasted many minutes searching for some help that wasn't there. I then logged the issue in Logitech's email support request. I never heard back from them. Fortunately I decided to unplug the USB wireless connector and reattach it, while pressing the re-connect button on the bottom of the keyboard. This simple procedure solved that one problem and I have had no further trouble. So overall I love this cordless desktop, but I'm decrementing one star for poor Logitech support (after one month I'm still waiting for them to respond to my support request, but I quit holding my breath a few days ago :)
Customer Review: Don't waste your money on this keyboard Summary: 1 Stars
Logitech makes some good keyboards. This is not one of them. The keys feel a bit cramped. The LED indicators are almost invisible and not useful. The rear height adjustment is so small it is laughable. Many of the special function keys do nothing useful.
Despite those flaws, this could have been an adequate keyboard but for a fatal flaw: the "Dynamic Search & Zoom" slider on the left edge of the keyboard is an intrusive annoyance that frequently disrupts productive work. If anything (your hand, your sleeve, a piece of paper on your desk...anything) touches the Dynamic Zoom slider, the monitor display automatically starts zooming. It quickly either recedes into invisibility or zooms-in until a small part of the page fills your monitor. Once it reaches the limit of its zoom range (which happens quickly), the keyboard starts making a buzzing/beeping noise. You now have to stop whatever you were doing, figure out what tripped the automatic zoom function, remove it from the area near the keyboard, and re-set your display before resuming work. Depending on how crowded your desk is, this can happen every few minutes, or even every few seconds. This useless auto-zoom feature can be slowed-down a bit (so it zooms more slowly), but I have been unable to find any way to turn it off. Thus, a feature of dubious utility quickly comes to dominate the keyboard in a very undesirable and disruptive way.
I love wireless keyboards, but I am junking this one as soon as I can get a replacement.
Customer Review: Product with a good range, and ease of use Summary: 4 Stars
Installing and configuring is very easy. The software for the keyboard special keys works great with Windows XP and Vista, but when i tried to install on Windows 2003 server it fails. But why would I need a wireless keyboard on a server which i hardly operate other than using it for backup, networking, etc.
I have installed it on a Windows XP PC and the extra keys (Zoom, media, etc) works really well. It is easy to configure the special keys using the software that comes with the CD. Both keyboard and the mouse - i have tried using it from 10 feet away and always worked fine. The only issue that i find is i often hit the zoom buttons on the keyboard while trying to use the Tab or Caps Lock, which can be a pain while working on MS Office or Internet Explorer 7.0. But if you don't plan on using it, disable it using the software and use one of the buttons in the Mouse for Zoom instead - thats how i have changed mine.
[...], which i would say its worth it. A wireless laser mouse would cost about [...] but this package includes the keyboard and the mouse. Also there is a USB Adapter. If you want to use the mouse with a laptop, just use the mouse and the USD adapter (in the shape of pen drive). Thats a BIG advantage.
There is also an On/Off button in mouse to save battery.
Surely recommend this one if you can get it for a good deal of < $35.00 otherwise wait for a better deal or newer models.
