I happen to own the cordless version of this mouse for my desktop machine and loved it, so when I was looking for an external mouse for my laptop, I thought I'd go with what I knew. I haven't been disappointed. It was literally just plug and play. I didn't need to install any drivers, and it works perfectly with my hp Pavilion running Vista Home Premium. What I really love is that it works on every surface I've tried so far (the most common being the arm of my recliner ;-) I'd definitely recommend this mouse to anyone looking for one that is usable on many surfaces.Customer Review: Middle button very stiff - returned

This is a well-manufactured mouse, but if you use the middle button a lot, forget it. It's much stiffer than the middle button on Logitech's other mice and may give you a bruise if you try to use it too much.
Also, the acceleration was very different from most mice. It can undoubtedly be adjusted in software preferences, but I fail to see the justification for a mouse that doesn't work out of the box these days.
After trying this mouse for a couple of hours I returned it and got myself a trusty MX-310. No surprises there, just a good mouse.

Being a touchpad user for so long I decided to give the mouse another try. Using so many different mice in labs around school I knew I wanted something with good tracking. The laser tracking lives up to it's name. I haven't found a surface it won't track on. On top of that, this mouse comes with a list of features. With the software you can program the buttons to perform a wide range of tasks. From internet browsing to window management. Pretty much every feature is customizable. Have used this mouse for a month now. It has worked flawlessly. Logitech included a driver CD with drivers for Windows up through XP. My system uses Vista x64 operating system. No problem though. Logitech's web site has the Vista drivers so after downloading and installing them the MX400 has been great.
It fits my medium/large right hand well. It is made for rightees. The scroll wheel and two thumb buttons are well placed and useful. This is an outstanding general purpose & web surfing mouse. I recommend it for those purposes.

This is my first laser mouse and I am very impressed. Sooooo much better and more consistent than optical. I use photoshop a lot, so making selections is much, much more precise. I even tried a buddy's wacom tablet, and I still prefer this overall. It is incredibly comfortable in the hand for long periods and has all of the features you could want. The side to side scroll of the wheel is easy to use, but a little slow and the front button is a little hard to reach, but rarely used so not big deal. Wired mouses just work better.
