Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX 400 Performance Laser Mouse

Customer Review: Another fine Logitech mouse
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my fourth Logitech mice and is above average. I have 3+ Microsoft optic mice and trackball and the optic all failed over 2-3 years. Since then I only bought Logitech. The MX400 contour or shape (and all Logitech also) fits my hand better then Microsoft's mouse. My favorite mouse is the rechargeable Logitech MX 1000, which weight and design glide a bit faster and more responsive. The cord kind of bug me a little verse the wireless MX1000. The mouse with cord tends to be lighter then battery mouse (mouse body weight only) and this one is no different.

The back and forward buttons are a great feature. I did not have to install the Logitech's driver. MS Vista already recognizes the default buttons, unless I wanted to customize the buttons like for my MX1000, there are no needs. Logitech's driver is always running in the background and wanting to update, so I avoid installing them.

I did consider the MX610, but don't like to toss batteries all the time.

Customer Review: Better than average mouse
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this mouse for around 6 months now. I am a data analyst and make around 8000-10000 movements a day with my mouse. I bought this thinking the more ergonomic design would reduce the chronic pain in my hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. It is better than a traditional mouse design by about 30%. Meaning you will probably be on disability 30% faster with a regular mouse. I am now looking for something with better ergonomics. For the last 10 days my right hand has been swollen and it hurts a little more each day. This mouse has only slowed down the inevitable not prevented it. Apart from the physical assessment of this mouse it is pretty good but not perfect. There is a glitch in the software that sometimes freezes up your programed functions if you are away from your computer for a while. You have to go into your mouse settings and click on apply settings then exit and that usually resets it. Its a little annoying when this happens. Over all a fairly good mouse.

Customer Review: perfectly simple
Summary: 5 Stars

this is the only mouse i've ever owned that became invisible on my desk. That is, it is so totally unproblematic, that it has simply become an extension of my hand. It does nothing to call attention to itself - it just works on every level that a mouse is supposed to work. Pointer never skips, buttons are always within reach and respond decisively, its shape cups your hand very comfortably; it doesnt slip, or skid, or force you to read the manual -- nothing at all, it simply vanishes from your mind. The way a mouse is supposed to, so you can focus on your work or your game. I tried dozens of mice, some with fancy features, others that looked glossy and neat, searching for something I thought I was missing -- in the end, I came back to the straightforward and competent mouse, the one that works hard day after day; all I was missing was something that actually worked, and worked effectively. Like Obama, this is "The One."

Customer Review: Good ... Good ... Good ... all the way

This is probably one of the only mice that have actually got the thumb button placing right. taken it may be a bit back for big hands like mine. But curving your thumb to click ... that's a no-effort compared to stretching your thumb forward like other mice expect you to. No problems with hibernating and suspending with my machine. All functions stable as a rock and absolutely love the software. It is so easy to reconfigure this mouse according to the task at hand. A true time-saver. My son also uses it for excellent gaming. Also, get the updated software from the logitech site. I have had no problems with this device at all except my hands are a little big and this one is about the same size as the normal Microsoft mouse and not as big as the pictures may make you think. Also, the middle button is a little too hard for my taste ... hey, no problem ... I just use the feather-lite right-tilt as the middle-click ! Awesome !

Customer Review: An okay mouse; terrible terrible software
Summary: 3 Stars

I've been using this one for half a year now, and it's a very nice and comfortable mouse. I bought it specifically to be able to scroll horizontally. Well, what has to pointed out is that it doesn't work as well as expected. Even though one can tweak the settings, one ends up with a comfortable scrolling speed in some applications, but in some others it's just too fast/too slow.

I also dislike the fact that there is no way to get rid of zooming of images when you scroll in an image viewer (unless you get rid of scrolling function altogether).

Another disadvantage is that if you click a Back/Forward button, not necessarily will they work. It actually takes time to register in a browser, which is annoying. Again, most other times it works fine.

I blame software. Note that you must install it to be able to tweak most settings of the mouse, including the horizontal scrolling function.
