Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX 400 Performance Laser MouseCustomer Review: Wonderful Mouse except one issue Summary: 4 Stars
I love this mouse. I have wanted a 5 button mouse again for a while (my last one wasn't USB and my computer didn't have the connection anymore). I got it in March and it's been good for me, for the most part. I only have one major issue with it: the side to side scrolling.
I thought it would be a really good and useful feature. It does work well for PDFs and other things if you set it on the highest speed setting (it's DEATHLY slow otherwise). The problem was only a few days into having the mouse, my cursor started acting weird. It would move back to the beginning of the line as if I was holding the back arrow key, and I would end up typing everything backwards. The problem turned out to be while I was using the scroll wheel to click, I was also left scrolling and it happened to get "stuck", not physically but that's what it acted like. To fix it, I just needed to left scroll and release. Over time, I learned the best way to middle click was to press towards the bottom of the mouse instead of towards the desk, so this rarely ever happens now. This may be a manufacturing defect in only some of them.
Although the issue was frustrating, it was easily solved, so this mouse is a great buy, and I hope to be using it for a long time.
Customer Review: Scroll Wheel Hard to Use - Returned Summary: 2 Stars
I researched the heck out of various corded mouses (don't want to deal with batteries), before settling on this mouse. I used it for about 4 days. I'm not a picky person and I really tried to like this mouse. After a while, it became very comfortable in my hand and was easy to maneuver.
BUT - the scroll wheel felt cheap and flimsy. The clicking noise it made was MUCH louder going in one direction than the other. Also, pushing the wheel down to activate the zoom was VERY difficult. If you pressed too hard/far, the icon would switch from pointer to zoom icon and back to pointer. If you didn't press far/hard enough, you wouldn't activate zoom. It was like Goldilocks, you have to press not too hard/far and not too light/shallow. I found it pretty frustrating. My other Logitech mice never did this. Maybe I got a bad unit.
Anyway, I returned it and Amazon was very good about taking it back. I ended up placing an order for a Logitech V150 because I have and LOVE the v100. We'll see how it goes. It doesn't have the nifty forward/back buttons on the side, but I'll live w/o as long as the scroll wheel works the way it should.
Customer Review: Logitech MX 400 - program buttons Summary: 4 Stars
Even though I have a touchpad (G4 aluminum)I prefer a mouse at home. I liked the Microsoft mouse design and feel, but it
seems poorly constructed as the wheel became useless. I next tried a Kensington mouse, and after a few days of experimentation, their tech rep told me it was not compatible with Firefox or Safari. ("then please don't print Mac OS X compatible!!). My final choice was a Logitech MX 400. The 5 year warranty caught my eye, yet the back and forward side buttons worked, then didn't. I tried to program them, but to no avail, as Logitech's web site for Mac's is "lost in space." While searching the web, I found
a site which listed programming this mouse for Mac web browsing. From the logictech mouse preferences in my Mac System Preferences, I chose "keystroke" for the back button. From the keystroke window, I clicked in the empty box pressed Apple Command button, then pressed the
LEFT arrow for back.
I repeated the procedure, again used command button, and clicked, RIGHT arrow for forward. Now, when using Firefox, it works like a charm.

Customer Review: Does What Its Suppose To DO Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned 2 optical type mice and with both of them I had problems with them not tracking properly, for lack of a better word the pointer would stick. I could never figure out why this was happening. I would clean the lens, make sure my desktop was good and clean and even with my second optical mouse it would not track properly even becoming unresponsive at times. This would happen what seemed like every day.
So I finally got sick of it and did a search on the internet and found a couple of articles that state optical mice will not work well on a black surface. Well my desktop is black and I was having problems. So I ran across this laser mouse by Logitech and it has worked flawlessly for the week I've had it.
This mouse has other features that many people make like but I basically use a mouse for pointing and clicking and it does so without any tracking problems, so based on that I give this mouse 5 stars.

Just a follow up on above review. The mouse still works flawlessly after one and a half years of using this mouse. Using it now.
Customer Review: Two major drawbacks Summary: 3 Stars
This mouse has a nice ergonomic design and high resolution, but has two significant problems. The first is that the laser tracking system is easily affected by hair. Not a big deal if you don't have pets that shed, but if you do, it will cause problems and you'll need to be vigilant about keeping your desk clean. The second problem is that the tilt scroll wheel is too hard to use as a third button. I don't have the drivers installed, so it's only used as a third button, and it's already hard enough to push it just right to activate it (and sometimes I inadvertently end up right-clicking, too). I don't even want to think about how aggravating it would be to try to use it with the tilt wheel function active. I highly recommend the MX310. Its only real drawback is that it has a symmetric design, so it's not as comfortable as the MX400, but its LED tracking system is rarely affected by hair and its scroll wheel is easy to use as a third mouse button. If I had a choice now I would take the MX310 over the MX400.
