Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX 400 Performance Laser MouseCustomer Review: Very comfortable... Summary: 4 Stars
MY ORIGINAL REVIEW AS OF JULY 27, 2006...
I went through 2 Microsoft mice last 2 years with left click button giving out within few months. I did try 2 other Microsoft mice but I was not happy with them. So, I decided to go with Logitech.
I love the shape of this mouse. It is very comfortable. I did, however, switch the forward & backward buttons using the software I downloaded from Logitech website. (Oh, don't bother installing the CD comes with the mouse, it's for Logitech MX 320.) The mouse seems to work better without a mouse pad.
Pointer flickers sometimes and disappears over certain buttons as the previous reviewer stated. My other mice did the same thing.
One more thing, I could not get left & right scrolls to work on Netscape 8.01. Let's be fair to Logitech. Netscape 8.01 gave me lots of other problems so I am guessing it's Netscape problem. (I ended up going back to Netscape 7.2 & Firefox. And the scrolls work fine.)
Overall, I am happy with this mouse & I am keeping it.
NOW FOR THE UPDATE....
It's been a year & this mouse is working very very hard. I am on the computer 4 to 6 hours a day. I dropped the mouse at least once on the floor. No problem at all. The pointer flicking problem I stated above disappeared after downloading the updates.
Very happy with the mouse.
Customer Review: Good mouse, sucky software Summary: 2 Stars
My mouse died and after reading reviews, I decided to try Logitech and the MX 400. I've never used a logitech product before, but all the reviews seemed favorable. To be upfront, I own a macbook pro running 10.4.8. I connected the mouse and it seemed a little sluggish to me. I loaded the software and it refused to recognize my mouse. i went to the logitech support site, followed the instructions and I still could not get the Logitech Control Center software to work. I couldn't even UNINSTALL the software and when i checked in my library, some of the software items were missing. I contacted customer support and they recommended installing old driver software (2.1.2 and 2.1.1) which I could not do because I could not uninstall 2.1.3. Everything I did and asked resulted in the same response, try reinstalling 2.1.1 and finally, calling tech support which is open at times that are not very convenient for me. So after about 6 hours of trying to get the mouse to work properly, I returned it, purchased a less feature rich mouse from Kensington, which works great with my Mac, and now am quite happy.
So... if you're a Mac user and you want to be able to do chording or other use of a multi-buttoned mouse, do not buy the logitech mice until they fix these bugs. According to logitech I wasn't the only one having this problem.
Customer Review: The wheel is (almost) unclickable Summary: 3 Stars
Before purchasing this mouse I saw in other reviews that its wheel was a bit hard to press, but I thought how bad could it be, and ordered the mouse anyway, because from the description it looked like the right mouse for me. Well, the mouse arrived, and guess what: the wheel is indeed hard to press, to the point that I had to disable its clicking abilities altogether!
The problem with it is, the wheel rotates very easily, so when, for example, I want to click on a link with the wheel (to open the link in a new tab), I need to press the wheel really hard, and very often that causes the wheel to rotate a bit, causing the web page to scroll a line or two, and as a result the link moves up or down a line or two. When I finally apply enough pressure on the wheel for it to click, the link is often not under the mouse pointer anymore. I'm a patient person, and tried to get used to it more than a few times, but eventually gave up and disabled the wheel clicking. Now I use the wheel only to scroll the pages.
I gave it 3 stars because the rest of the mouse works quite well - the pointer moves very nicely, the shape feels not bad, too. If the wheel was working properly I would be very happy with this mouse. But guess what, I miss the wheel-clicking capability, so I'm looking for another mouse to buy (again)...

Logitech MX 400 Performance Laser Mouse
Logitech MX400 Mouse
Last month I replaced a failing Dell mouse with the Logitech MX400 Performance Laser Mouse. I particularly wanted a cord type mouse and after trying several in the store, I settled on this one, then purchased it through Amazon.
I was drawn to the black and grey color scheme, more so to the contour shape since it fit comfortably into my arthritic hand.
Installation was a snap, programming easy. The increased accuracy of the laser technology over the trackball is brilliant. This mouse does so much more than any previously owned that I'm still in learning mode. For example, with the Logitech MX400 tracking is flawless on virtually any surface and one can scroll side to side and zoom in for closeup shots with the innovative Tilt Wheel Plus Zoom. Forward and backward buttons perform effortlessly for Web browsing and the soft contour sides fit a medium to small hand perfectly.
It has a PS/2 port or USB interface so works with any PC or Mac computer. SetPoint software guides you through the added features setup for Windows XP or Vista (downloads available at Logitech for Windows 98, ME and 2000).
Customer Review: WORST MOUSE EVER PURCHASED Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this mouse so I could play Titan Quest with a 5-button mouse. After installing 41MB of "programs" (35MB being pictures of accessories Logitech offers), I tried and failed to get the new buttons sensed ingame. TQ offers keymapping, but the buttons were not sensed, except in Picture previews. How useless, for me at least. So I uninstall the mouse, expecting more from a $35 mouse, and try to reinstall my original mouse. Upon restarting, I find my services.exe files are deleted (that means I can't even log into Windows). Since Windows cannot load, I can't reinstall the files from a disk. I spent $100 REFORMATING my HARD DRIVE just to use my computer again. I lost all my programs and many files, including the Video Games I design. Those were worth THOUSANDS of dollars, and Logitech is not liable for any of my loss. Does no one back their product these days?! Its 2007, and we can't make quality mice that were originally designed to WORK ON the computer! Mice has been around for at least 15 years, and they still cost this much and not work! I've been re-installing all my Microsoft updates for the past WEEK straight. My dial-up connection seems slower and less constant now, and all because of a MOUSE! I will never buy from Logitech again, and I hope you do the same.
