Customer Review: MX310 Works with 64-Bit VISTA

I have an MX310. I've read many reviews where the reviewers have said that the mouse does not work with VISTA. If you use the packaged software, it will not work with 64-but VISTA. It will work with 64-bit VISTA: if you go to Logitech's website and download the 440_x64.exe or 480_x64.exe, you'll find the mouse buttons,all of them, will work with your VISTA 64-bit OS. There may be other Setpoint downloads that will enable the 310 with VISTA. One "side effect:" when pressing forward/backward, you get a the "Quick Find" banner at the base of the screen; it fads away when the command is executed.
The mouse is working flawlessly with VISTA. The only problem I have is that the mouse is slightly large for smaller medium hands and can be a bit uncomfortable. I've been using an HP Comfort Mobile mouse and really like it, but I wanted a device with on more button that I could use for document flip, which the MX310 provides. The 310 is working smoothly,and for the price, it's a great buy. I thought that the profile/geometry of the device would be a bit more comfortable for a smaller medium hand size. So it goes. I do recommend the mouse and would really like to see Logitech come our with a slightly smaller model with the three additional programmable on-board buttons that are standard on the MX310. By the way, there's no rapid free-wheeling scroll as on Logitech's more recent mice. When you press the scroll wheel, you are able to move the mouse north or south for rapid vertical scrolling. By the way, there is no horizontal scrolling on the scroll wheel.
Controls
I can work the backward button, on the left side of mouse, with my thumb, the forward button I have to work with my ring back part of my ring finger on my right hand, which takes a little getting used to, but once you're there, it's fine. All the other buttons are worked as usual. The one control I didn't care for is the number of lines per click--your choices are only 1,3,6, none, or one screen.
This is one of the better wired mice I've used--and for what I paid for this, $18.00, I'll keep it plugged into my USB hub and check the size for fit--and worst case, it will sit in a drawer and be used as one of those peripherals that gets connected every so often just to give it another go. If you've larger/wider hands and are looking for a good, inexpensive mouse with three additional programmable buttons, this is worth a try.
Four Stars
The reasons I rated the MX310 four stars are: on the large side, side buttons could be positions a bit more forward, and the lack of a horizontal scrolling function.
For me, thus far, the best inexpensive mouse with fwd/bkwd controls is HP's Comfort Mobile Mouse HP Comfort Wireless Mouse - Bronze. The only control/function the HP is missing is one additional button for document flip--however, it does have horizontal scrolling and the scroll wheel and two side buttons are programmable.
