Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing WheelCustomer Review: Reliable Racing Wheel. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought a factory refurbished logitech Momo racing wheel for $68.00 / free shipping on eBay to replace an aging Thrustmaster Force Feedback wheel. Since upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit Professional, I wanted a wheel that had updated drivers. Luckily, Logitech does have 64-bit Windows 7 drivers free for download. All installed flawlessly and so far I've tried the the wheel with Colin McCrae 2005 and an old game called Dethkarz. I'm a little disappointed with the force feedback of the wheel (kind of weak) but that just may be the games' settings, not the wheel itself.
The unit clamps onto the desktop easily and securely with one plastic screw and two L-shaped brackets that are adjusted by removing the top plastic panel on the wheel. I find the game profile software settings a bit confusing so I check the box that allows the individual game to adjust the settings. Who has time to fiddle with setting up profiles only to find they don't work? Maybe it's just me.
Anyway, the biggest hurdles are the dead zone settings for wheel, accelerator and brakes, but once you have that set in the individual game controller options, your logitech wheel is ready to roll. The quality of the wheel and it's responsiveness isn't quite up to Thrustmaster quality, but it's good enough for the casual gamer such as myself. I wouldn't pay more than $80 for this wheel unless it were brand new factory sealed. Buying this refurbished for $68.00 and free shipping on eBay can't be beat.
Customer Review: Excellent budget wheel!! Summary: 4 Stars
This wheel arrived from amazon.com well packed. I mean, triple-boxed (including the retail box) and seemed in fine shape. Unfortunately, the force-feedback would fail rather quickly. Before that happened however I was able to use it and felt it was well worth the cost. Game took on a whole new dimension with this device. I played everything from GT Legends & GTR 2 to the Flatout game 2 & 3. The wheel performed beautifully. It has a great feel. Only negative I can think of is the lack of a clutch peddle. I missed that aspect of it and take off a whole star because of that. How expensive is a third peddle? Come on Logitech! Still, I can't recommend this enough. Now, after contacting Logitech about the problem I was having they told me to send it back. And amazon.com provided a refund that was quick and easy. That's why I like shopping here for online stuff because if you have a problem they will make exchange/refund simple. I ended up buying a G25 from one of amazon.com's marketplace sellers, tigerdirect. I'll review it at its listing later because the experience left something to be desired. The product itself is outstanding even for the price, but tigerdirect's shipping methods are far below amazon.coms. Spend the extra money with amazon.com if you want to make sure your product is taken care of. Use tigerdirect if you need it cheaper...but remember, the G25 is probably the most expensive PC device you will buy and tigerdirect will treat it like a crate of gourds.
Customer Review: Good solid racing wheel Summary: 4 Stars
This MOMO racing wheel is a significant upgrade over the basic $40 Logitech racing wheel which I enjoyed using for two or three years. The basic model has a very light feel with no resistance whatever and no ForceFeedback option. The MOMO wheel has stiffer resistance plus more precision, and you can turn on ForceFeedback to give an even better feel of the road.
The MOMO wheel offers "paddle" shifters behind the wheel right at your fingertips. It also features a stick shift beside the wheel if you prefer that.
The Pedal assembly is sturdier and has better feel and action than the pedals that come with the basic wheel.
Control of all the buttons, paddles, etc. can be programmed for different games if you install and use the software provided by Logitech. I have not tried this feature, using instead the control settings available in each game.
Minor drawbacks:
I had to place a brick behind the Pedal assembly to keep it from moving when I hit the pedals hard during a race.
The wheel is rather noisy when you turn it.
The wheel drops tiny shreds of plastic or some sort of debris when in use. Have to brush off my keyboard tray below the wheel after use.
Overall, the quality of the MOMO model is very good indeed and strongly recommended. It certainly feels as though it is built to last! The minor drawbacks just barely rule out a 5-star rating.
Customer Review: Pretty Darn Good Wheel for the Price Summary: 4 Stars
Unless you're a professional racecar driver looking to recreate your real world experience this wheel should satisfy you. Yes it would be nice if it were made of leather and steel, but if that's the level of realism you want I don't see how you'll ever be satisfied unless you complete the effect with a steel chassis around your computer and an open can of gas nearby for the authentic road smell. Seriously, it's nice and solid, with the nice tacky feel of good quality rubber. The wheel does produce a light grinding sound from the gears, but unless you're extremely neurotic you won't notice it above the roar of the engines. I've only had mine for a few days so I'll report back on the long-term quality in a few months, though it seems right solid, I suppose it's possible that a hyperactive kid who didn't pay for it himself could abuse it to the point of failure in a few months. My biggest disappointment so far has been that the force feedback doesn't rattle and shake as much as I thought it would, then again this could be due to the game I'm using it with, Toca Race Driver 2. If you're serious about your driving games you need a wheel and pedals, absolutely, and this is a solid choice! If, on the other hand, you're serious about driving itself, just stick to the gas guzzler in the garage. Given the problem of global warming and pollution though, I say pass the sunblock and make mine digital!
Customer Review: Great wheel with some minor flaws Summary: 4 Stars
Overall, this is a great wheel, one of the best for the PC without going to the very expensive 900 degree wheels.
Feel - the wheel feel is excellent and durable. This is my second one of these - my last was still in good condition after three years of reasonable use.
Feedback - the Momo has great feedback for most games. I personally wish it were a little stronger, but it is adjustable and feels good - not cheap, weak and 'plastic' like some other wheels out there.
Mounting - The mounting has been good for me - I have mounted on multiple surfaces including two 'race chairs', and never had any issues.
Downsides - The pedal feel is not so good. Also even this new one has the issue of mine from years ago - if you put full pressure down and then some sideways, this 'increases' the output of the pedals, and then you can't get 'full power' again unless you reset your game\wheel\settings. This is a design flaw in that the pedal can actually move sideways a little. I was surprised that this new wheel had the same problem of one a few years old. This can be dealt with though by adjusting your games or just making sure you don't push with side pressure - not a huge issue, just a pain sometimes.
Overall this is a good product, and out of those I have tried, the best in it's price range for actual feel and feedback.
