Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse - Dark Blue ( 931395-0403 )

Customer Review: Best mouse I've ever had. I could draw with this. No mouse pad required. And I love the four additional handy controls.
Summary: 5 Stars

CONTROL: The high resolution of the tracking is wonderful and from the first moment I used it, it was obvious I had never used one that had this high level of control--though I've used many laser mice.

RANGE: I was worried that the sensor/transmitter would have to be in close proximity to the mouse or even line of site--as is the case with other wireless controls I own--but in realitiy I can use the mouse at least tens of feet away from the computer and it works fine. So this is an excellent mouse to use when doing a presentation where the computer has to be at the front of the room just to work with the projector and I ideally want to stand at a podium or even on the other end of the conference room table or the front row of an auditorium.

APPEARANCE: It looks great but be aware that the blue in the picture is lighter than that of the actual product.

SETUP: It came with batteries, I inserted them, put the stick in the USB port on my laptop, and fairly instantly--without having to install any additional software--it worked on my Windows Vista system on my Sony VAIO.

EXTRAS: The forward and back buttons are something I've never had before on a mouse, and now I consider them essential. I have had a scrolling wheel and that too has become something I would rather not do without.

It also comes with a cord extension in case you don't like having the stick jutting out from your USB port, as well as an adapter for the old mac serial ports.

If you move the wheel side to side instead of up and down, it will zoom in and out on your digital photos.

BOTTOM LINE: I bought this out of frustration with the touchpad on my laptop computer, and am extremely glad I did. I don't have to zip around my screen with my pointer nearly as much since I can perform forward, back, scroll, and zoom right on the mouse without even moving it.

And when I do move it, to edit a photo or draw something, it is extremely precise.

On top of all that, since it's an optical / laser mouse there's no ball to get dirty and I don't even need a mouse pad. I can use it on the floor, a tabletop, or any other flat surface such as a book I'm holding on my lap.

Given how increadibly well this works, I might just order up a Logitech cordless keyboard as well.

Customer Review: Excellent mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this mouse for about 1 month. My previous two mice: a Logitech Cordless Click!, and a Microsoft cordless mouse that came paired with a wireless keyboard. I personally prefer Logitech's mice to Microsoft's.

As another reviewer mentioned, the LX7 *is* a little small, but that doesn't bother me very much. I have very average-sized hands: 8 1/2" inches from wrist crease to fingertip, palm about 4 1/4" wide, and 10" from thumb to little finger when stretched wide.

Unlike the actual hardware, I feel Microsoft's Intellipoint software is better than the Logitech's Mouseware. Fortunately, Intellipoint works with this mouse, too.

I like that this mouse has much lower power consumption than my previous Logitech mouse: they claim a battery life of up to 8 months. That is in line with the Microsoft mouse I have. With that one, I don't use rechargeables, because they last so long. I haven't used this LX7 too long, but anything over 3 months on rechargables will make me pretty happy. The Cordless Click! used up the charge in 2 NiMH batteries in about 3 weeks.

Another nice feature of this mouse is that it has an On/Off button on the bottom of the mouse, to save even more on batteries.

I click on the middle mouse wheel a lot, and I don't like that you have to apply quite a bit more pressure to get it to get it to click, unlike the Click! mouse.

For scrolling, the wheel has those little "stop points", like a ratchet, which I prefer, as opposed to a completely smooth roll (like my Microsoft cordless). It is still smooth, and requires little pressure.

The dark blue model looks good. It is sleek and attractive. It is symmetrical, which is nice, since I use it on the left.

On top, it includes a low battery LED, and has small forward and back buttons for moving through web pages.

Overall this is an excellent mouse. To be perfect, it would need four more things:

- Be a little larger.
- Require slightly less pressure to click on the middle wheel.
- Have left and right thumb buttons on the side.
- Include a built-in NiMH battery and a charger base.

All that being said, this still ranks up there as one of the best overall mice I've owned.

Customer Review: It's Like A Fickle Lover: Pretty but Infuriating.

I've had this mouse for about 9 months now and it is HORRIBLE. I upgraded to this model from a much older, yet infinitely more reliable Logitech wireless optical mouse (I got that one in 2003 and just replaced it last year.) I very rarely had a problem with the older model so I expected great things from this prettier upgrade. Boy, was I wrong. I use a non-glossy, black mouse-pad but despite that sometimes the thing just won't track, no matter what surface I put it on (curiously, though, if I put it on my leg while wearing denim, it scrolls fine...very odd.)

However, the absolute WORST thing about this mouse (and the cause of many, many fits of profanity) is the battery life. OH MY FATHER IN HEAVEN, you have never seen such crappy battery life on a mouse! The product description has the unbridled audacity to claim that the battery life lasts for 8 months...oh really? Then why am I constantly changing the batteries? When I first bought it I was using very expensive Energizer lithium batteries but it didn't take long to discover that my lithium batteries just weren't cutting it. I blamed it on the batteries at first. Then I did some research and found that lithium batteries only do well in devices that are big power hogs like cameras. So then I switched to trusty Duracel batteries and even that didn't matter. I literally have to change my batteries every 3 or so days. All my drivers are up to date, and I'm running it on Windows Vista. It drives me insane when, for no good reason at all, it'll suddenly stop working--just freeze up. I've moved the receiver to the front of my tower and that didn't help. And why the batteries drain so quickly is beyond me. Honestly, I'd have replaced it a long time ago if I weren't so in love with the very convenient forwar/backward buttons on it. They make surfing the web and navigating folders so easy...but I'm afraid that's all the good I can say about it. It's time for a new mouse. Any suggestions?

Customer Review: I am satisfied
Summary: 4 Stars

I just bought this mouse a few days ago, and so far I have been pleased overall. To start with the bad:

I would not put it into a "portable" group. This doesn't bother me, but for some it might be an issue. The USB receiver is large and does not connect to the mouse itself in any way.

If you have large hands like me, it's not quite right. I find that while it's long enough, it's rather lacking in the width department; it's slightly narrow for large hands. Because of this, the last two fingers on my right hand are laying on the desk, and cramp up after prolonged use.

One small thing, the mouse is advertised to have a dark blue color, but when looking at it in normal lighting it looks like dark grey, almost black, with a touch of blue; not anything like the picture, and not anything to worry about if, like me, you are buying the mouse for it's functionality not it's color.

Now the good:

The scroll wheel has a click function, the wheel function and horizontal scrolling function, all of which work well. It is very sensitive in all three of these functions, which I find to be very useful, especially when playing games.

The download from Logitech [...] works smoothly in Windows XP. I don't think I'll ever use the features, like customizing the buttons, pointer speed etc, but the option is available.

It uses easy to replace AA batteries, no need to buy custom batteries. The buttons are stiff enough to allow you to rest your fingers on them without the risk of accidentally clicking, but not so stiff that you have to worry about it not clicking when you want it to. The optic works well, as well as the USB receiver.

Overall I like how the mouse works, although it is a bit narrow for my large hands. The buttons don't misclick when resting your fingers on them, and it never doesn't click when you want it to. As of now, I would buy it again.

Customer Review: Does what a mouse is supposed to do
Summary: 5 Stars

If you just want a simple mouse that works fine - WITHOUT having to install any softare, then this is the mouse for you. No fancy crap, no need to make it more complicated than it has to be. In my experience all the extra options on a mouse just get in the way, and result in your activating functions by accident.

This mouse works right out of the box for Win Vista x64 - just plug in the transmitter and insert batteries into the mouse, and you're ready to go. Logitech makes software for it - but there is absolutely no need to install it and add a bunch of extra crap to your computer that will only slow it down. Do NOT install the software - just plug it in.

Here are the functions (without installing any software)
left and right click buttons
central scroll wheel -- roll it up or down to scroll pages, OR, you can click the scroll wheel, and then the page can be rapidly scrooled up and down by just moving the mouse (therefor no need to keep rolling the wheel).
two small "left" and "right" arrows just below the scroll wheel - these function on web pages to go "forward" or "back".

That's all you need in a mouse - it is light and comfortable. I've had it for a month and have not had to replace the batteries yet.

Other advantages:
1. it is symmetric - perfect for right-handed OR left-handed use.
2. has 'Off" button - so if you really want to save battery life, you can turn it off when not in use. Though this seems intuitive, I do not find this feature on any other cordless mice that I've had.

Highly recommended.

Edit 20 Aug, 2010
have now had this mouse for 1 year. I never bother to turn it off. Can't remember, but I think I changed the batteries either once or twice in the past year - it certainly is good on battery power. And no other problems despite very heave daily use. It's a perfect mouse for your desktop.
