Customer Review: How can anyone live without a Harmony remote?
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this remote, and the Amazon "one day sale" price for a refurbished one (which looks like brand new) made me decide to buy it and "hand down" my harmony 657 to my son-in-law. I logged into the website, downloaded the current software via supplied USB cable, clicked on the icon for "change to a new Harmony remote", and voila! - it uploaded every single customized setting for my old remote onto this one in about 3 minutes. Yahoo! The 890 has a nice, bright color screen (good for those of us over 40), and feels good in your hand. It come with a recharging cradle, so no more searching for AAA batteries, and has an IR "add on" receiver if you have doors on where you store your components, or you want to operate things in another room.

I run my TV, AV receiver (both for speakers in the room and for those in the LR and on deck), DVR, CD jukebox, iPod dock, DVD, VCR, PC, and tuner with this one remote, and it is probably my all-time favorite gadget invention. Ever have baby-sitters, kids' friends, or just anyone not "in the know" about how to operate all your remotes come and screw the settings up so it takes you an hour to figure out what they did and how to fix it? No more - even a little kid can figure out how to turn on the TV, receiver, and DVR and set the receiver to "DVR in" with the press of the button that says "watch TV" and has a picture of a TV on it. Why doesn't everything (husband, kid, etc.) come with a Harmony remote?

Customer Review: Best Remote I've Ever Owned
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: Well I've had the Logitech 890 for about a month and I've set it up to control 3 tv's, a blu ray player, dvd player and 2 satellite receivers. So far everything works great. It does take a bit to set it up online but once you figure out how to do it the first time, it's pretty darn easy. I think most people find the convenience of only having to push one button to watch a dvd, tv, music etc etc to be the best feature. I haven't had a chance to use the RF feature as all of my stuff is in line of sight but if it does what it's supposed to, than I'll be very happy.

Cons: The set up online takes a little getting used to. The remote can't tell when the particular machine is on. For example if I want to watch a blu ray, it may turn on the tv but not the blu ray so if you push it again, than it may turn off the tv and turn on the blu ray. So you can see where this goes, so then you have to control the tv or blu ray on the remote and turn it on that way. A small minor inconvenience but that's my con. Also there is a bit of a lag for the components to respond to the remote. I've adjusted the lag to respond the quickest but it didn't help.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this remote. It's very convenient to have just one remote for every single component in the house. I'm excited to hook up my lights and fans through my remote when I get the time.

Customer Review: Good remote for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

This remote is pretty good for the price. I have so far not had any problem with it especially for the fact that it's refurbished. It has performed well so far.

A couple of complaints about the design of the remote in general:

1. The number buttons could be more pronounced to make changing the channel easier. The location of the buttons could be further up on the remote. I usually change channels using my thumb and you really have to crank your thumb down to reach all the numbered buttons. It's not that big of a deal though.

2. The channel up/down and volume up/down buttons on either side of the remote are small and narrow. I reprogrammed my channel up/down buttons to be the large arrow up and down so that I could surf faster.

3. There is a bit of lag when pressing buttons. While watching my cable box it's mostly caused by the cable box rather than the remote. I use the remote with my xbox 360 as well. I notice a lot of lag on this. For example, if you quickly press the up/down buttons a few times to navigate on Live, after you stop it will still scroll until all commands have been sent. You can tweak this to a certain extent using their software though I have never gotten to work as fast as the 360 controller.

I have not tried the RF functionality yet

Customer Review: Great Remote! Stress Reliever....
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased one of the refurbished 890s and fortunately they got this one right. It looked brand new and there was no evidence whatsoever that it had been previously used. The heart of my system is a Onkyo TX-607 AV receiver which is a great unit but lacking in the remote control area. So I decided to try the Logitech 890 and it controls everything I need it to control; 2 DVD players, one DVD recorder, one VCR, one TiVo DVR, Dish Network VIP-722 and a Samsung 46" LCD TV. Now, one touch of a button powers everything down where it used to take a scurrying of several remotes. Likewise, one touch turns everything on that needs to be on to perform the requested activity. It really does put the icing on the cake with my system. The software is very easy to use in setting up the remote and very well done; the only thing I worry about is since the software is website based (you must have an Internet connection to use it), will Logitech continue to support it in the coming years and what happens if they decide to get out of the remote business? The only other complaint I have is the buttons on the 890 are a little hard to see in daylight because the contrast between the letters and buttons (light blue on silver) are similar making it hard to distinguish what's what. Overall I think it is great and well worth the money.

Customer Review: Excellent remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I took me a long time looking for an IR extender or RF remote and I finally came to this one after lots of advice and research. What you don't see online is that the remote comes with the remote, the rf/ir extender and ir emitters for when you hide your receivers, cable box etc... behind a cabinet door. It also comes with a nice cell phone type battery and a recharging cradle. The cradle holds the remote well. No fiddling to get it charge like some others.

My components are all behind me in my living room and the extender lives just above the components behind me. I don't have to point the remote at anything. It can program any remote control product, including fans, fireplaces, whatever. This is the end all, be all remote control.

Set up was easy. You hook up both the remote and the extender to the computer via provide USB cables and program them to work your components. I was done in ~ 15 minutes. The codes are programmed into the remote for you. No need to try and find the code through trial and error.

By the way, yes, this remote works every single option on Time Warner's Scientific Atlanta DVR HD box. You can put their remote away after you've bought this one.
