Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 676 Universal Remote ControlCustomer Review: Poor Amazon Service- Amazon Cancelled my Order Summary: 1 Stars
Ordered product at 59.99 price in August. Like Kenny30, had very poor service from Amazon. First the product was backordered to Sept 5. Ok. Then on Aug 30 I missed an email saying that if I didn't confirm by Sept 6, the order would be cancelled. Then I got an email on Sept 6 cancelling my order. When I complained to Amazon, they said, we don't know your discount, sorry. When I called Amazon, they had the discount order price, of course, but said, well, we couldn't fulfill them all because some we had were broken. What do you mean, I asked, you're listing them on your site right now Sept 15, and I presume making money off them? Oh, no Amazon said that's through a vendor using our storefront. I asked are you not making money from that vendor today? Answer: Yes, we are. So why can't you honor my purchase order? Well we try to fulfill, but we can't always predict demand. Duh-- that's why we do business with you, Amazon, anyone can put up a storefront and advertise goods they cannot fulfill.
So far, no product, and no help from Amazon. Now, I wonder from Kenny30 whether Amazon's fulfillment process will be broken for other items, too, without recourse.
Customer Review: Easy to setup - Extremely ergonomic Summary: 5 Stars
I was initially considering the Sony Commander remotes when I heard about the Logitech Harmony's. After seeing the layout of this remote and the fact that you can use it one-handed vs. two-handed with the Sony... well, I was sold.
After receiving the unit, I assumed I would be spending several hours setting it up. Well, half an hour later, I had all of the basic programming to run my HDTV, receiver, dvd, PVR and my IR dimmable lights! The configuration website is very well-designed and I REALLY like the fact that Logitech stores your config on their servers. If I ever lose my remote, all I need to do is hook up the new one and run the "Update" command.
Button sizes and layout are excellent. The LCD display up top is easy to read and highly configurable via the website. The underside of the remote is made of some kind of rubber-like material that grips well.
The ONLY gripe I have about this is that the circular 4-way dial on the unit seems a bit small and kind of like a pop tab on a soda can. You get used to it after awhile and it is no big deal.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Customer Review: Features are great--until it stops working. . . Summary: 2 Stars
Just had to add my two cents to everyone else's reviews. I fully agree that the functionality of this remote is excellent. I used it to replace a TV, cable box, receiver, and CD/DVD changer remotes. Setup is a breeze with the USB interface, and the remote did exactly what I wanted it to do and had good range as well. Great deal for the price I paid--was only $50 when I bought it.
Having said that, however, I am pretty disappointed with the longevity of the remote. I have owned it just over one year now, and yesterday the majority of the buttons just flat out stopped working. The off button still works, but the rest (channels, volume, device macros) all will not control any of my devices. I realize we live in a throwaway electronic society, but I would have expected more out of this remote control. It's possible I may have just gotten a bad chip or something, but given some of the other reviews on here, it seems to be somewhat of a systematic problem.
To sum up, it's a great product, especially for the price, but just be aware that it may not last as long as you would like.
Customer Review: Spent hours with the Harmony help desk... Summary: 2 Stars
The concept here is great. Being able to create a custom configuration for all of your Home Theater gear on a single remote is very appealing. Many Harmony products are functionally similar but I chose the 676 for that particular button layout. I would recommend any of the other Harmony products though rather than the 676. The reason is the interchangeable face plates for the 676. I could not get the remote control to download the updates I had made online. I spent several hours with the Tier 1 and Tier 2 support line at Harmony. Finally it was determined that the interchangeable face plates were keeping some of the buttons partially depressed where the remote memory would not accept any updates. I had to remove the face plate to make it work. The red face plate would not lock down on the right side. The blue face plate depressed several buttons and really wouldn't fit at all. The silver face plate kept one of the tape/dvd transport buttons depressed. Interchangeable face plates is a GIMMICK. There is no reason for it at all. This is poor quality control at the manufacturing level.
Customer Review: Great Remote, Great Ordering Experience! Summary: 4 Stars
Was apprehensive to purchase this, my first programmable universal remote. Initially had seen it offered for $50 from Tiger Direct and tried on __2__ separate occasions to order - the item mysteriously became out of stock and my order cancelled each time. Trying to get my money back was another headache!
So then I saw Amazon drop its price and I decided to try one more time. Amazon delivered and I got my new remote very shortly thereafter (I always go cheap on the shipping, but it came sooner than expected!).
After installing the software on my laptop, it was easy to connect the remote and follow the step-by-step instructions. The software was very intuitive and all I needed to enter in was the brand and model of the equipment (TV, DVD Player, etc.). It was a breeze to program the remote to watch TV, watch a movie, play Playstation, etc. I love my new remote and will be trying to program some advanced functionality beyond the setup wizards soon. Oh, and I love how you can take it with you and just push a button to use it in the bedroom!
Get this remote!
