Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 676 Universal Remote ControlCustomer Review: I hate it! Summary: 1 Stars
I have another version of the Logitech universal remote that I like a lot so I thought I'd try this one for half the price. I hate this one. It's really a pain to try to use.
I logged onto the web site and set up each of my devices, TV, DVD and Stereo. The buttons on the remote don't operate very many features on any of the devices, there aren't very many button choices, channels, volume, channel scanning, DVD/VCR play, pause, stop, next, previous, fast forward and reverse. So if you want to use other functions, like sleep timer, changing the picture from 16-9 to letter box, or top menu, or eject, or change from CD to Tuner, you have to scan through the little screen of menus with a button and look for the feature you're looking for, but don't pass it, because there is no going back. If you pass what you were looking for, you have to continue scanning the menus to the end then start again from the beginning. There could be 10 menus for a device.
Logitech is great in trying to help, but I'm sorry I wasted my money on this remote. I wish I'd spend a little more and gotten a better one. The most important feature about the more expensive model is that it has two buttons to scan the additional features, a forward and a backward, so if you go past what you're looking for, you can go back and get it.
Customer Review: Perfect remote Summary: 5 Stars
It works perfectly. I love this remote and once you get used to the software it is real easy to program. I have it running 6 devices and set up programs as HD DVD, where it gets my AV receiver, TV, and HD DVD player on and on the right channel and speaker set up. Just one touch when it took 3 remotes in the past. I have it connected to my blu-ray player and comcast DVR box. Speaking of Comcast DVR box, it allowed me to set a 30 second fast forward button, which comacast has taken out of all its remotes backing down to advertisers. Now I can fast forward in 30 second increments and back up in 10 second increments. No more commercials ruining a good show that I just DVR. This is my favorite feature that I use everyday. Great remote. One minor point is the light only last about 10 seconds and the glow button isn't in a great spot, so if your watching movies you can hit a wrong button. Very minor, once you get used the buttons it becomes second nature. I wish the glow button was on the side, like another remote I had, but this one is so much better. And the price on Amazon was AWESOME. I was a gold box purchase. Best remote I have ever had and I spend $200 on another that I never liked. This one is the one. I am waiting for another sale to get another for my Family room entertainment system.

I was pretty frustrated with my 4 remote controls. Syntax Olevia 37"LCD HDTV, DirecTV receiver, Cyberhome DVD player, and Onkyo HT. Every time I switch between input sources, I always have to scroll through the input sources for the TV. It gets pretty annoying!!! I also use my entertainment setup with my Dell computer. Now all I have to do is press one button, and this wonder will change setup everything for me. Now I am down to 1 COOL looking remote, and I saved alot of trouble using multiple remotes for one activity. For example, I want to watch DVD, and I was watching DirecTV. I need TV remote to switch input source to component, I need Onkyo receiver remote to switch input source to DVD, and I need DVD player remote to turn it on... Now, 1 button does it all! One downside is that for some reason, this remote somehow forgets to change input source correctly, and I have to adjust it by pressing "Help" to get the problem fix. It happened couple times in the past month I have this thing... but still much easier compare to using 3 remotes for 1 purpose. Web setup is wonderful and easy. Little slow, but okay. I recommend this item because it really clean up all the remotes in your living room or entertainment room. It controls up to 15 devices. including computers, and xBox as well.
Customer Review: Logitech Harmony 676 Remote Summary: 4 Stars
I found this remote very easy to set up and use. I have a very hard time getting all of our components to work together. Can't remember which input goes with what. Plus I hate having 3 to 5 remotes laying around. I had a difficult time telling if this remote would work with a DVR from the other reviews. I have a Panasonic DVR and it works quite well. The few things I don't like about it are the major function buttons at the top. They don't light up and I would rather be able to program the buttons myself than have them pre-programmed for me. I have reprogrammed the "listen to music" button to "watch DVR." We rarely use this entertainment center to listen to music. I'd rather the main function buttons were just different colors and lit up so I could say program red to watch TV and blue to watch DVR. What I do like is you can program some of the buttons so you have the same functionality on this remote as you have on your original remote. Such as the "skip forward" button and the "guide" button that are on the DVR. The problem is remembering which button is for which function. I have them memorized now but my family hasn't bothered. What would be great is if you could push a button and see a diagram of the remote on screen with the buttons functions labeled.
Customer Review: Brilliant! Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried other universal remotes and always returned them because they were limited in what they could control on each device. It always seemed like I ended up with a solution that required serious performance tradeoffs, and often had me grabbing the original remote to control some features.
Not so with the Harmony line. Because it connects to your computer, and accesses an ever growing Internet database of devices, with even the most initial of setups, it controlled nearly every feature of every device in my system - including my early 1990's solid state JVC receiver, a device NO other universal remote could even turn on. And for those few features it couldn't yet control - it didn't recognize the PIP and disc menu commands on my new LG DVD recorder - it has a phenomonal "learn command" feature that allows you to point your existing device remote at the Harmony and "teach it" unknown button commands. So far it has worked every time.
It is true that after initial setup, tweaking the remote activities took about 50 connects to my computer and trial and error over 2 days - total time maybe 5 hours - but once I got it dialed into my system, everything works absolutely perfect. It really is an amazing achievement.
