Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal RemoteCustomer Review: What a Great Product Summary: 4 Stars
I was like so many other people in the world these days. I had 4 remotes on my table for all the different components in my entertainment center.
I was in search of 1 remote that would do everything all of these other remotes would do. Those 10 or 12 dollar ones you can get at WallMart or Target are OK, but they only do the basics. They wont do the more fancier functions that are usually on the original RC's that come with our electronics. So like everyone else, I let my fingers do the walking on the net, ran across the Harmony 670 read some of the reviews and decided to buy. Have had my RC less then a week but already am glad I purchased. It does everything the reveiws I read claimed it can do and then some.
I had some trouble setting up some activities but only because I have a VCR and a DVD/VCR Combo of the same brand, but that was an easy fix, I just aimed my original RC at the 670 hit the button a couple times and it learned the signal to use and worked after that.
I can set up activities to do all the things I had to use 2 or 3 remotes to do in the past such as Programing my VCR's to timer record, now I hit a couple of buttons and it turns on everything I need and I have the LCD programable buttons set to do the functions necessary to program my VCR to record a show I may miss being out or whatever.
If you are tired of the clutter on your tables and want to get ride of all those remotes and save on the battery usage, this RC is the one to get. It's easy to set up, even for those who may not be so gadget savy, you'll be able to figure it out and though I've not had to call, I've heard the tech support is Great with this prodocut.
So Dive on in and buy.
Thank you Logitech for a great and powerful little RC.
Customer Review: The only universal remote brand you will ever need! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second harmony remote, so I am a true believer. I tried several brands previous to my first harmony as I did not want to shell out the money for one. I tried the Kameleon and a few JVC models but none did everything you want in a universal remote. They were more like a fancy shell of the remove you get with your cable box from your provider.
The Harmony is a phenomenal remote platform and the ability to manage, update and configure all of your remotes form a single wizard on the computer is excellent. It also helps to make sure as new devices come out, you have support for them, as the Logitech software will download the codes. For those that are "PC Challenged", do not worry, it is very intuitive and has some good help features. It is almost as simple as just typing in model numbers of your components... it will then chose common "one click" activities to setup (watch a DVD, watch TV, play a Game). You can then customize or create your own.
Many remotes have a macro feature where you can program a set of commands to fire off with one click. However, they don't have the intelligence to know the current state and input of all of your devices. Most TV's you have to click the input button multiple times, there is a not a direct access button. So in order for the macro to work, the components always have to be reset to default state for your macros to work. The Harmony knows how to directly access all of this inputs, and also remembers the state of every device during each function (is it on or off, what mode is it on, etc). So no matter activity you press, it will always perform the right actions and turn unused devices on or off.
If you are looking for a universal remote, do not even consider anything else.
Customer Review: ....Gets my Wife's Seal of Approval Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Tivo, TV, Surround Receiver, DVD, Cable box, and VHS components. My existing remote (Marantz universal) controlled most of them, but could not generate the codes for the DVD. As the buttons were failing to respond, I needed a replacement that would be easy for my wife to use, and yet powerful enough for me to control some of the finer controls of my receiver, like channel level adjustment and sound mode. I've had the remote now for over a week, and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. The set up is very easy. The troublesome DVD mentioned above did not respond after the initial set up. The software prompted me to use the DVD remote to generate a Power On code into the 670. This worked, and things went well after that. I love the fact that the 670 seems to make available ALL the function codes for a specific component. I can control almost every facet of my receiver by placing the functions on 'pages' which hold the functions I want, and in the order I place them. The Activites feature of this remote is so slick. There are three Activities button, plus one that holds 'More Activities'. Using the wonderful software, I can define each activity, like Listen to Music, Watch a Movie, Watch TV. The remote seems smart enough to know which components are already on or off, so that going from Watch TV to Watch a Movie directly, won't shut off the TV, since it is already on.
One thing that pleasantly surprised me about this remote is its range, and ability to control components even if they are behind the cabinet door.
Initially, I thought that the buttons were a bit small, but with time, you get used to it, and I'm not finding it a problem now.
This is a wonderfully thought out product. I whole-heartedly recommend it!
Customer Review: Great Remote!! Summary: 5 Stars
Well, first off, let me say that I have the model 620, which is the same as the 670, only in black (and apparently available only at Target, where I bought mine last Christmas). I am basing my review off the 620, which is identical to the 670 except for the color.
PROS:
1. Separate discrete buttons - easy to find!
2. Simple LCD screen - no pricey color LCD icons (a la 880)
3. Replaceable AAA batteries, but will maintain settings when changing
4. Great infrared range
5. Looks sexy!
CONS:
1. Small directional ring at center
2. Center range of buttons (directional/channel/volume) located a bit low on the remote, slightly less ergonomical
The CONS were in comparison mostly to the model 688, which I have used over the last two years.
I feel the 620/670 is one of the best remotes I have ever used. It programs easily, although that's a relative term. People who know what they're doing will tinker with it endlessly to their heart's content. It's VERY flexible in how it allows you to set up your system the way you want.
To elaborate on the PROS: the LCD display is simple and straightforward. You don't need a fancy underpixelated color display. And replaceable AAA batteries are a godsend, compared to proprietary rechargeable batteries which will run down and can be quite $$$. Also this remote has a wide infrared range; you can point it just about anywhere, and it'll work.
My entire family uses this remote. I recommend this remote over the more expensive fancy Logitech units, which I think are quirky, not as ergonomic and problematic to use, based on reviews of friends who bought them.
Customer Review: Great solution to having too many remotes! Summary: 5 Stars
I received the 670 as a birthday present. I have a Samsung TV, Xbox 360, Onkyo Receiver and a Philips DVD player. I'm also hoping to add other devices such as a HD satellite service and a DVR (Tivo). Since this device handles up to 15 devices, I should not have a problem.
I simply wanted a way for my family to be able to use the TV without having to conduct a 3 day seminar on how to switch all the settings so they could watch the movie "CARS" or play a video game. With this remote, my little ones can play a game or watch tv with one simple button push.
I have never owned a universal remote but I am so impressed with how easy this software is to use. I entered my device model numbers in to the software after I installed it and presto - it configures everything for you. However, it also allows you to tweak the settings as well. I had to do this as I listen to CD's on my DVD player and my DVD player automatically turns on my TV (anynet+). When this happens, the remote does not know the TV is on so it can't turn it off. One simple setting and I was good to go.
I highly recommend this device. Works for the entire family!!
Note: When you open the software on your computer it connects to the Logitech website to download all the possible devices, etc. However, when one of these servers is down you will get an error like the following:
Invalid procedure call or argument /EasyZapper/New/ProcLogin/Start.asp, line 133
To fix this, you simply need to close down the application (including the system tray icon) and try again. You may need to try several times. I'm sure this is relatively rare but it happened to me the first time I loaded the software.
