This speaker set is a good value for the money. The sound from the satellites is not the most crisp for music, but good for gaming, it's main target audience. It seems to lean toward heavy mid-range, rather than higher frequency highs. The bass is a bit muddy if turned up too loud, as the subwoofer is not really large enough to handle big thumpin bass. But it is good enough for some serious bass in movies.
I recently had the big amp on my set of Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 surround speakers set burn up after 5 years of heavy use. That system had 700 watts of power - 210 for the sub alone, and is without a doubt the best computer speakers I've ever heard. Even better than Klipsch 5.1's, of which I'm a big fan. But at $499, I was not happy to find out the Gigaworks amp burning out is a common problem with that speaker set, so I opted for a more disposable set that wouldn't upset me if it burned up.
The G51 is a solid value with decent sound, but audiophiles should stay away. If your budget is higher, go for the Klipsch 5.1's.

What can I say after testing this unit out for weeks I seems not to find any flaws. The wired remote is way above anything compared to the old Logitech speakers except for the Z-5500 having to control the volume of the surround, sub woofer and center speaker, while having the function of the mic plug and head phone with mute control for both is great to have. The Z-5300 retails the same with this G51 with more power in watts and having THX certification but this G51 has better sound as having a better signal to noise ratio. Can't really say this beats the Z-5300 with my ears but in specs it does as quality of sound is much important than just being loud noise. Also the matrix mode is great having technically 3 profile of listening style (normal, game, and music) setting how loud my center, surround and sub through the wired remote (which is great to have) for each profile. If you are debating if you want to get this or the Z-5300 since there in the same price bracket I would go for this which I am pleased to have them.Customer Review: Ultimate game sounding experience!

If you want to create your ultimate game experience, this G51 is definitely your essential! If you want to buy a surround sounding speaker system for both music and game propose, then choose this one.
I use this speaker for my Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The surround sounds make me feel very realistic when I switched the game mode to the observer (outside of the cockpit to see the airplanes pass by). One of my roommates downstairs asked me how come there's an airplane passed our house at such a low altitude...LOL. Yeah, the performance of the speakers system is amazing. If you want to enjoy your music while you are not gaming, just switch the control pod to Music and it will give you a fantastic music experience.
The Matrix Surround function can make your 2-channel stereo a 5.1 surround sound quality. Don't worry about your audio card :-)
Overall, I think this is a really nice one. It will be perfect if Logitech can replace the wires by wireless. But anyway, wires are okay!

Setting up these speakers to my computer was so easy I rechecked everything just to make sure. I love the fact that the pod allows me to change the way I want to hear a song, more voice or more instruments. I thought heavy metal was just noise but once I put those songs on gaming mode I couldnt believe just how much heart and soul they put into each song. The low sounding bass on Rap songs sounded perfect, but remember, they are "Quality" Sound Speakers, meaning, the sound you get in your car is not the same sound you want with these speakers. Close your eyes and these speakers will just blow your mind. Its like the instruments are blanketing your whole body. Unlike what I heard, the speaker wires are long enough. You should have them at the level your ears are, not 15ft. away up on the ceiling, and evenly placed around you or you wont get every instrument sound. I paid about $60 less here at Amazon than anywhere else. I consider the price I paid a steal. Trust me...you will be amazed.Customer Review: Great Speakers

I was considering the Razer Mako 2.1 THX speakers to replace my now bad pair of Klipsch 2.1 THX, but considering the price of the Razers, and after reading some of the reviews for these, I decided on the Logitech G51 series instead. All I can say is I am incredibly happy with my decision. If I had to do it over again and money weren't a consideration, I would still go with these speakers. They are solid, sturdy, speaker wires are thick, everything is great looking and sounding, and the subwoofer is good sized, cool looking, and produces great bass. The separate control system is awesome, almost every speaker system I've had, the first thing to go is the volume on the control speaker, that won't be a problem this time! Also if you get these, remember to set your pc for 5.1 speakers, and have the matrix mode on in either music or gaming mode if your only using a 2.1 sound card or onboard hd audio so you get the sound from all of the speakers. Overall great speakers, highly recommend!
