Customer Review: Best keyboard I've used

This is the 2nd G11 I've owned. The first one died after about 3 years. I've used like 4 g15s since and they were just horrible quality. I've had to return 2 and got so fed up almost stopped using logitech products.
Main reason I've liked this keyboard is 18 g keys and 3 memory banks. I use most of them. The sound wheel is also very convenient, though I don't use any of the other keys there. I actually like the handles on top to grab it, and the length never bothered me. I keep the back light on 24/7 and never had a problem.
Only issue with this keyboard is the usb ports. Don't use them. I've lost so many trackballs connecting to them and would always have to plug and unplug my keyboard to get it to work if I had something plugged in.
The only other issue is the software. Sometimes when running a macro it will start behaving like a different macro, so I'd have to terminate the application and restart it to fix it.
I miss having a little LCD on my keyboard to tell me cool stuff (when it worked) but with all the G keys this keyboard has, I won't be trying a different keyboard unless I pick up a game pad with programmable keys before.
If you can deal with the width, have no problem not connecting usb devices to this keyboard, and like lots of programmable keys, consider this keyboard. I'm hoping this will last me at least the 3 years my previous one lasted me and that was with heavy use.

I am a avid gamer and I wanted a solid keyboard and the ability to program hot keys for use in the many games that I play. I had considered the Logitech G15 but felt it was to expensive. The built "hot key" support covers one game, "World of Warcraft". While the G11 has more programmable keys than the G15, the programming function is not "on the fly" and is not that easy to do. I purchased the G11 over a year ago and I am on my 2nd one! After 3 months of use the main enter key stopped working. However, the enter key on numeric keypad worked fine. Since it was only 3 months old I sent a customer service request into Logitech to get a replacement. It took more than 20 emails back and forth to make them understand that every key worked fine except ONE! It then took another 2 months to get a replacement, which broke today with a non-functioning enter key.
The other issue with his keyboard are the feet at the back that are supposed to lift it on a angle for comfort in typing. The feet lift the keyboard approx. 1/4 inch. which is ridiculous. I fabricated a wooden "lift" to fit into the notches on the keyboard to lift it 1 inch and give a good angle for use. The feel of the keys is quite good, however you won't be using it for long before the enter key stops working.
Once again a solid product falls to the fate of over seas production and customer support that can speak English, but does not understand English.

Pros: The lighting is excellent. The blue is nice. Key touch is fine. Macros are very easy to record. Macros and keystrokes are very easy to assign to G keys. I love that only one USB port is needed and there are no little microphone or earphone wires hanging around. I stand the keyboard on end against the wall next to my chair when not in use, so the open holes at the top make it easy to handle. The flat ends make it easy to stand on end. The construction is substantial. The black and silver lines are attractive. There are Vista 64-bit drivers for it. It seems to work seamlessly with my new laptop. Probably more stuff, but that's what I've liked so far.
Cons: Wrist rest is floppy and useless, since I hold the keyboard in my lap. The left shift seems to skip sometimes, but that may be my touch or my laptop. I had the same problem, only worse, using the laptop keyboard. I think others have tested the onboard USB ports and found them to be USB 1, but I assume a power cord to the kb would be needed to provide enough power for most peripherals, like you have to do with USB hubs. I could use those ports. My laptop has only 3. Mouse, kb, printer. No room for scanner, backup drive, or other peripherals.

Let's start with the advantages:
- It's a standard layout! The F keys are where they should be! The Ins key hasn't been shoved somewhere it doesn't belong! Some of us use these keys, you know.
- The ability to disable the Windows keys is great, although I sometimes forget I've activated it.
- Even at its brightest setting, the illuminated keys aren't too annoying. The middle setting seems just about right.
- Eighteen macro keys! These are especially great for anything that comes in groups of threes or sixes (i.e. X, Y, and Z for a 3D application), and splitting them into groups of six makes it easy to touch-type.
- No F-Lock key-related misery like some Logitech keyboards.
Problems? Like everyone else says, you will hit the G16 key instead of Ctrl for a day or two. The macro system is powerful, but isn't the most intuitive thing to use at first. Finally, although the profiler is much better than Setpoint (for instance, it doesn't randomly forget or reset all your settings), there's no way to hide the tray icon.
So far, it's survived half a mug of coffee and a 5' drop onto a wooden desk support. Better than I expected.

This keyboard is great for gamers and regular users alike. It has a very sleek design and the keyboard is backlit in blue. So many macros I can't imagine anyone needing that many. Wish they would have invested in other features rather than like 100 macro keys. It does have 2 USB connections on the back which will be great for my USB MP3 Player to charge as well as maybe a flash drive. The keys are really quiet and nice to press. Not too hard, not too soft. Volume control is nice, but it should've been elevated to make it easier to turn, still not too bad though. Has a nice palm rest, wish it was made of memory foam though. Overall I give this keyboard 4 stars for all the features. I would have given it 5 stars if the price was in the 30-40 dollar range or if it had more features rather than so many macro keys. Maybe like a little pad underneath the left side macros. Keep one row of macros on the top, and have a gaming pad below it. Something like, turbo buttons or something. Just gave them a design idea for a future keyboard. It would make it truly a gaming keyboard then, but this keyboard is really nice nonetheless. Would have given 4.5 stars if I could.
