Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard (Black/Silver)Customer Review: Randomly disconnects and reconnects Summary: 2 Stars
I love Logitech, and I hold their products to a higher standard than the rest. This one is well-designed, but it has a serious problem (for gamers, at least). Overall, this is a good, attractive board--assuming you don't get the problem I have.
The board works most of the time, but randomly, sometimes a couple times an hour, the lights will blink and it will turn itself off. Then, even when the board becomes powered again, it won't work. This is insanely annoying in FPS games, especially multiplayer ones. I've made sure that this is not an issue with my computer itself. It is isolated to the keyboard.
Ignoring that problem, the board is pretty good. It's comfortable, feels solid, and has lots of buttons (including 18 macros on the left side, very useful). It isn't ergonomic at all, but that's not a big issue for gamers. The keys have smooth response with just the right amount of push force, and the board looks good overall.
It isn't without its shortcomings. The lighting is somewhat uneven and sometimes looks a bit cheap. If you have your keyboard right in front of your monitor(s), the lit keys may be harder to see than normal white ones. I really wish all the blue keys were as bright as the yellow M1 key. The board includes two USB ports, but they are only USB 1.1. It would be nice to plug mice into them, since it would give a wired gamer more travel slack on the cord, but for me, I find it too risky to plug my MX-518 into it because of the risk of losing both my mouse and keyboard to the power loss.
The lesson I learned? Fancy gimmicks do not a gaming board make. Lights and fancy frills are an excuse to skimp on other, more important things.
Customer Review: Better cheaper option than the G15 or G19 Summary: 5 Stars
I just recently got this keyboard and I have to say that I love it. I thought it would take a long time to get used to because of all the G keys on the left which extend the keyboard beyong its normal length but My adjust period only last a few hours. The Keys are soft and fluid to touch and push. They are pretty quite compared to other keyboards but if your doing some fast heavy typing you do and will hear the keys. The keyboard its self is very long/wide. You have to have the space for it to be able to comfortably fit your mouse next to it with enough room. Lucky for me that was not an issue for me. The blue illuminated keys are not terrible bright. It makes the keys more noticeable during the day and they definitely help when you're in the dark. But as for bright clear as day back-lit lighting, No. There is not light adjuster either, you can't make it dimmer or brighter but you can choose to turn the lighting off completely. The keys have a nice soft finish to them them prevent your fingers from slipping off the keys if your hands are sweaty from gaming or whatever which is really helpful. On the bottom of the keyboard, the two levers to raise/tilt the keyboard do not raise it enough imo. Some people may not like that. It's not a big enough problem for me but everyone should know that they could have done a better job with that part. the performance of the keyboard is amazing. Very fast response time which I love, It also has an option for you to enter a "gaming mode" where if you accidentally hit the windows key you will not be tabbed out during your game. Overall this is the best "cheapest" gaming keyboard you can buy from the G-series of logitech.
Customer Review: It is ok but! Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this keyboard about 1 year ago; I am first going to list the features that I like about it.
1. I love the volume sound wheel right on the top of the keyboard in the dead center. It is a manual mechanical wheel and it does the job. My speakers are not close to me and so I love the volume control because I can reach it very quickly and very conveniently.
2. The mute button is right there as well.
3. I like the programmable extra keys and the software that comes with it.
4. The video player control keys are around the sound controller wheel so I can fast forward, pause, play or rewind just a push of a button on this keyboard. -
5. I like where the additional USB ports are located. I use one for the plug in of my mouse and the other for a thumb drive which means it don't have to screw around with the computer case, Very conveniently located on the top side of the keyboard.
6. So here is my greatest grip. The number and letters on the keyboard could be a little bit larger and bolder, and the back-light, lighting sucks. I do like to play some of the on line games late at night. So I need these keys to be easier to read and better back-lighting. There are only two modes to this, dim and very dim lighting, which to me the very dim is worthless. I wish they have 5 modes to the back-lighting and possibly 3 different colors of light to choose from. Then they would blow the competition out of the water but for now I was disappointed in the back light keys.
7. The little prop up legs to give you a incline for your wrist to sit comfortable on, is a joke they barely raise the keyboard.
Customer Review: Quality Keyboard for Gamers and NON-Gamers alike Summary: 5 Stars
This our favorite keyboard of all time, at this time that is, out of all the keyboards we have ever used. And, we have used a lot of keyboards. This keyboard replaces our Microsoft Ergo Keyboard 4000. We have been using the Logitech G11 keyboard for about one week now.
We like this keyboard because:
1. Quality construction/durable, does not feel "cheap". We do not want to have to replace the keyboard for a long time, and we don't think we will have to with this keyboard.
2. Softer touch keys, great for people who use computers alot, like gamers, OR people like us who type all day long on the computer for work; This is a very important factor, besides high quality/durable construction.
3. Has keys that are NOT painted on, so the letters won't rub off, like they did on our Microsoft Ergo 4000 keyboard. We almost bought a Saitek Keyboard for this reason, as the keys on those keyboards are laser etched (or something to that effect); they are not painted on. However, we did not opt for the Saitek because it did not appear as well constructed as the Logitech G11; Many reviews state the Saitek is cheaply constructed which would make us go bonkers. ;)
4. Some people complain that this keyboard is big, but we do not think so. It is a tad longer yes. We do have a large desk however.
5. Another great feature of this keyboard, is that it works well with people, specifically men, with bigger hands/fingers.
6. Love the backlit keys, for evening typing, when you don't want to turn the room lights on to avoid disturbing others who may be sleeping.
7. Sleek & stylish.
Customer Review: Logitech should never stop making G11's Summary: 5 Stars
(12-26-09)
I learned they discontinued these sometime in the past couple weeks so I decided to get a backup G11 just in case one day the led lights go out or something stops working which hasn't happened yet after a year and a half of constant hardcore usage. I was looking at the latest new products from Logitech such as the G19 which is a total joke. The G19 comes with 36 macro keys vs the 54 you get with the G11. Over time I eventually used and memorized 48 of the macro keys with 6 left to spare which is nice to know I still have more. If my G11 suddenly went defective and I got stuck paying $110 more for the G19 which offers less critical features such as the macro keys, then I'd end up spending so much more $ on a product that will force me to give up and decide which 12 of my shortcut keys I have to learn to live without. Does that make any sense? The G11 is $65 while the G19 is $175?!?! That's just crazy. Logitech should bring back this keyboard. It is great for general use and gaming since it gives the original layout of the old IBM keyboards I grew up with. Plus the blue led lights are just too darn sexy to pass up. They should bring back either the G11 or bring back a very similar looking G11 without compromising the old IBM keyboard feel and with more(or at least the same amount total of 54) macro keys not less. There is another keyboard called the Logitech G110 which is supposed to be the successor to the G11 (not the G19) and the G110 isn't even in the same league as the G11. Then again neither is the G19.
