Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Cordless TrackMan WheelCustomer Review: I Want Another! Summary: 4 Stars
Using any computer that has a GUI with carpel tunnel is a miserable experience. Ive spent 3 years trying to find an input device, and have a large collection if USB and Bluetooth mice. I decided to change my point of view in my search and started to look at trackballs.
The great thing with this model is that I can leave my extra large hand in one place on the unit, the ball fits idealy under my thumb, fingers hit on the buttons and wrist can stay in a straight, comfortable allignment.
My only complaint is that the cordless range gets really short when the battery starts to die, which has been every 3-4 weeks. The signal wont pass through any books on my desk. Also, the base has a long cord which makes portable laptop use a pain. I have ordered two of the older, corded models which should resolve those problems.
I was a little afraid of Logitech, after owning their first and second generation mice which I found lacking in ergonomics and also in longevity, but after a year now this is in the 'almost as great as pre-sliced bread' category.
If you like to use trackballs with your thumb, this is the one.
Customer Review: The worst I have ever owned Summary: 2 Stars
This was the third Logitech trackball I've owned. Like the other reviewers, I am a lefty, however I am a righthanded mouser. My previous one was the TrackMan Vista which fit my hand like a glove and the buttons were in the exact right place when I put my hand on it in a natural position. I'd still be using it if the sensors hadn't worn out from age, use and dust. This trackman was stiff to use and I had to keep shifting my hand to hit the buttons. It did not install easily and would not connect using the ps2 adaptor so I was forced to use the usb connector and for some reason that caused issues with activesync so that every time I put my pda in it's docking station - the cursor would freeze. Trying to get some real support from Logitech was a joke. I finally had enough after 4 days of this and went to a big box electronic store and ended up buying a Microsoft Optical Trackman Explorer. I am much happier as it is closer to the Vista than anything Logitech makes now. It loaded easier, is more responsive and doesn't cause the issues the Trackman Wheel did. The Logitech will be in my next garage sale if anyone is interested.
Customer Review: Works well but receiver is too big Summary: 3 Stars
I had the original TrackMan Wheel mouse (with a cord) and loved it. I regretted letting my mother-in-law have it the very second I agreed to it.
I purchased this one as a replacement once I realised I didnt like a normal mouse any more. Plus I purchased a laptop and thought the cordless would be handy.
This model works excellent and is great for use at home with a desktop computer. Unfortunately, it doesnt mention in the description or photo that the receiver which plugs into the USB port is HUGE, its almsost as big as the mouse itself. The size of the receiver and length of cord that comes with it is the same as having a mouse, completely defeating most of the purpose of a cordless mouse. It is too bulky to carry around and setup on my laptop like I had hoped. The receiver is much larger than the ones that come on the other cordless mice I have seen.
If you like the TrackMan Wheel I highly recomend this one, it is top quality and functions flawlessly, as long as you dont want to rely on portability. If you plan on carrying it with your laptop, I would recomend a different cordless mouse.
Customer Review: Comfortable, Useful and Generally Reliable Summary: 4 Stars
The trackball has been a real upgrade from using a conventional mouse. I am really glad I made the conversion and should have done it sooner. I purchased the cordless trackball on recommendation of one of my colleagues at work who has expertise in human factors and ergonomics. I was getting cramped fingers at the end of a long day of editing documents, creating slides and surfing webpages doing research. I was hesitant at first to use a trackball because I was pretty comfortable with a mouse and I didn't want to interrupt my working rythm.
The installation of the device and the software was easy and I re-trained myself within a few minutes. No more tired index finger. The trackball is easy to control and navigating webpages is a real pleasure.
The only complaint, and the reason I gave it four instead of five stars, is that twice in two months, the cursor has "lodged" itself into the upper right corner and refused to move. Seems to be tied to coming out of the screen saver. The only working solution has been to re-boot the machine.
Overall, it is great and I heartily recommend it.
Customer Review: Great mouse replacement Summary: 5 Stars
First, I have big hands, I'm 6'4" and easily palm a basketball, this Trackman is comfortable, though still a little small. I replaced my Trackball corded mouse for this Trackman and have not been disappointed. I work as a CPA, so I need the scroll wheel for moving up and down spreadsheets, and liked it so much I bought one to use at work as well. I really don't see how anyone can survive without the scollwheel and wireless mousing in an office environment, especially if your cube isn't so big, or you need large amounts of space for all that wasteful paper! I enjoy wireless mice, and not needing any more space than the footprint of the mouse is a definate plus for the Trackman. The only problem is the whining of the IT staff trying to figure it out when they come out on a desk call, better keep that back up mouse! Overall a great device, If you have large hands, I have to knock off a star for sizing, and for the rest of you, it is a solid device, I've used for over a year at work with absolutely no problems. I would prefer it have a recharger rather than a straight battery, but the incovenience is insignificant.
