Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Alto Express Notebook StandCustomer Review: Doesn't work for laptops with a rounded front bottom. Summary: 2 Stars
The front end of the stand has a very short notch that really only works with conventional laptop shapes. By that I mean, rectangular prism, 90 degrees, that sort of thing. My HP laptop has a rounded front end that makes the notch completely ineffective, so that it slides over and off when I try to position it onto the stand.
It only stays on when I use the audio port hub on the front right side, which has said rectangular prism shape, to fit into the notch. The left side still spills over, and the whole laptop easily slides off again if I move it even a little from this awkward position. A few minutes out of taking this out of its box, the beautiful clear plastic already has a few scratches on it from the laptop repeatedly sliding down and off. This said, when it stays in place, I really like the screen being at eye level.
It also doubles as a decent book/sheet holder, depending on the book's shape and size. But this is kind of a negative point knowing that it's primary function is supposed to work in the first place.
Customer Review: Excellent stand for a MacBook Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this stand from BuyDirect about a three weeks ago and it is fantastic. I got it knowing that I would be getting a 22" external monitor to use with my MacBook and I didn't want to spend too much, I mean, the Alto Connect looks great, but $60? Yeah, no.
The Alto Express is perfect. My MacBook looks great on it, either opened or closed and the height is perfect. I just got my monitor and the two are amazingly almost the same height, with no adjustment required.
My boyfriend liked the stand so much, he ordered two for his laptops (one Mac, one Dell) and they look great. for anyone who is concerned about price, BuyDirect (at least right now) has them for like $15 shipped and that's totally, totally worth it. The plastic is smooth and well shaped and the bottom crevice is great for a MacBook. If you have an older MacBook Pro or another laptop with an optical drive in the front, it might be a slight hassle, but for anyone who has a right or left facing optical drive, it's perfect.
Customer Review: Nice stand but beware Summary: 4 Stars
I was looking for a notebook stand for my Macbook Pro but I didn't want to pay too much, this Logitech product was the best cost/value I found. The stand itself is very simple, just a piece of plastic althought very nice looking but it is almost perfect for me. My big problem is that the MacBook Pro has the DVD Drive at the bottom and because of this is imposible to put or eject disks without manually lifting the notebook :(
It's not so much of a problem inserting the disks because you know "when" to lift the notebook but the problem is when for example I am burning a CD with Toast and the software automatically ejects the disk. This action make the cd stuck against the table and I have to manually lift the notebook and push the cd back in and then manually eject the cd again, this time having the notebook lifted of course.
Anyway, if you notebook's drive ejects CDs by its sides I think you will like it.
Price: $11.99 + shipping = $18.76
Value: 5/5
Usability: 3.5/5
Customer Review: Works like a charm. Not ideal for Macbook Pros though. Summary: 4 Stars
The Alto Express performs as promised: sturdy construction and a sexy, sleek design. All who are looking for a notebook stand that will complement their titanium or black Apple laptops need look no further.
If there is a customer who needs to be wary of the Alto Express it is the owners Macbook Pros. The curve of the stand does not allow for frontside CD entry. (It seems the architects behind the stand designed it for side entry CD-Roms.) No matter. The laptop will have to be slightly lifted from the stand in order to insert and eject CD/DVD's. Those who are looking for carefree ease of use, might want to consider another product (the Griffin line is a good place to start. Be warned the prices are steep!).
This aside, I am a happy owner of the notebook stand(even though I have a Macbook Pro.) Here's to happy lifting for CD use!
Customer Review: Simple but Effective Summary: 5 Stars
I researched notebook stands for MONTHS before finally purchasing one. I use an external monitor and keyboard with my laptop, so actually typing on the notebook keyboard is not important. I was chiefly concerned with providing a sturdy base for the laptop, something that would raise the monitor up to eye height, and something that would allow the laptop fans to operate normally. This stand achieves all of those goals. It's simple, sturdy, and effective.
Only thing to consider is if you plan to use the headphone jacks at the front of your laptop (if you have any there), you won't be able to access them with the laptop in this stand. Also, the stand of course is non adjustable, but I don't see this as a problem at all. The adjustability in the laptop monitor itself takes care of any needed adjustments.
