Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech 720p Webcam C905

Customer Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera recently and i should admit i love it. I used to have a cheap Phillips webcam and the quality of it was bad. The picture came out as if i was in a basement. This camera has a very cool useful feature which is called the backlight and even if there is not enough light in the room it still looks DOOD, VERY GOOD.
The microphone is working very well too. You can sit away from the wbcam and still talk with your normal voice volume. It does not have any background noise.
Another nice feature of this camera is special effects. You can fool around, adding some funny hats, glasses, masks to your face or even become an alien (if smb wants to).It works with Skype, but you have to let this software be used with Skype. The program asks you if you want to let Logitech be used with Skype and if you say yes, you can enjoy this cool feature.
The best thing of all is the glass Carl Zeiss Lens. It really makes difference. My husband has pretty much same webcam but without such lens and the quality of picture is notisably worse.
The only thing i had trouble with is software, i had to install it twice. But i think it is somehow connected with the virus program in my computer, it is a crazy software and always interferes with all installations.
I like everything about this very camera, especially great picture quality and forgot to mention small design. It is small and cute and looks good on notebook.
If i needed to buy one more camera i would get the same one. Hopefully it was helpful.

Customer Review: Pretty Good Notebook Webcam
Summary: 4 Stars

I did a great deal of homework on the best webcams, although I must say Cowboy Frank's website is the most thorough and I ran with his pick, which was the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks (QCPN). YOu have to be careful with the names of the cams, by the way. Logitech has the unfortunate style of using names that sound alike. The image of the QCPN is quite good, works under low light conditions according to reputation, has some interesting features (face following, and the "fun filters"). Some improvements that could be done: (1) the clip is not really as tight or rugged or could be designed to prevent axis rotation (not a big problem) (2) the USB cable is fixed in the camera but probably should be pluggable, since the cable goes into the pouch with the camera and the connector might possibly scratch the lens. The software easily installs, and the setup should present no difficulty even to the most novice user. I would suggest that the microphone sound level adjustment be done automatically by th software or its setup be described better, since it is not entirely intuitive. Logitech has a VERY minimal user and quick setup guide; Logitech really should provide a troubleshooting or optimization or routine handling section to explain how to maximize camera performance. I am impressed that webcams now have focal length adjustments (changes in zoom) and can pan. Awesome!

Customer Review: Logitech C905-- Great Video/Pics & Audio; Clip-On Could be Better
Summary: 4 Stars

As far as video and picture capture is concerned this thing is TOPS; and for only $60 A STEAL as well! It's very portable (only slightly larger than my thumb) and set-up the first time was plug-n-play simple, however, subsequent uses are made harder by the poor design of the clip-on.

Don't get me wrong, it works, but needs to be made longer/deeper with the pivot point closer to the center and stiffer joints and larger pads for a better grip. Something closer to a clothespin that can be squeezed open and placed w/ one hand would be greatly appreciated.

On a MINOR note, I don't care for the Camera button at the top of the unit. Because the clip-on is not designed like a stiff clothespin one is forced to use two hands for even minor adjustments and you wind up taking lots of bad self portraits while moving it around. These are easily deleted though. Regardless of the overall design, I find this feature to be superfluous anyway since the super easy to use software has a Take Photo button that works with the mouse. But it is there and it works so hey...

I have recommended this device to many, many people so far and will continue to do so despite the small annoyances in the design; FOR SURE the quality FAR outweighs ALL of my grievances!

And YES- it works BEAUTIFULLY with SKYPE!

Customer Review: Does what it says!
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This webcam produces nice sharp images and the automatic focus is fabulous! The colors are rich and very true.
It works great in dim light and well lit areas. However in my opinion it works best if the room is evenly lit, either all dim or all bright. When I first turned it on it was evening and my room was dim except for the desk lamp which was sitting behind the camera and this caused some over exposure, this was easily solved by simply turning the lamp off.

The sound is also nice and clear, even from several feet away.I have a very soft voice and sitting about a foot and a half from the camera I can be easily heard, which is saying alot considering I constantly have to repeat myself to others.

Even the pictures are nice, about the quality of a mid grade digital camera. It also comes with a stand if you don't want to clip it to your monitor. The stand is a light weight plastic and has a grip pad on the bottom for extra support.

All in all I am very happy with this webcam and reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a nice compact webcam with excellent resolution.

Customer Review: Amazon Ships the Older Model!
Summary: 1 Stars

Gave it one star because Amazon ships the older model, Quickcam Pro for Notebooks instead of the newer model, the Portable C905. Logitech has verified on its site that these are not the same models:
[...]

Hi 82little,

The Portable Webcam C905 replaces the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks. While the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks offers VGA-quality video at 30 frames per second (high-quality video) on Skype, we made adjustments to ensure the updated Portable Webcam C905 can perform up to VGA-quality video at 30 FPS on any video application, including Logitech Vid. Secondly, the Portbale Webcam C905 was modified to be capable of adjusting to widescreen format and record 720 pixels (1280×720) at up to 30 FPS. Finally, software is no longer required for RightLight technology. Instead, we've built it into the device, so right out of the box, you'll get the best image quality possible, regardless of harsh or dim lighting conditions. We also adjusted the firmware to make sure that RightLight engages only when necessary. Like the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks, the Portable Webcam C905 features an easy-to-transport design so that you can make a video call no matter where you are.

Best, Ladan

I failed to understand how come Amazon has not responded and clarified matters.
