Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter (Black)

Customer Review: Great product with only 1 shortcoming
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great wireless presentation controller. The range is excellent, the devie is ergonomic, it is simple to use (a lot of my users who never used a wireless controller before were quite easily adapted to it within seconds of first use). The vibration feature is a nice complement. The one and only issue that I have with this device, is sadly the reason that I must replace it - it does not have an auto power-off feature. Users more often than not, forget to switch it off after use and because it doesn't power-off itself after an idle period, it remains powered until the batteries are drained, thus not being functional when next required for use (often 18-24 hours later). It has caused me some embarassment and inconvenience during presentations because of this. I often have to change batteries to ensure reliable usage. This is a great device for an individual user, but I will not recommend for a high traffic presentation room or large number of users. Excellent device for both tech and non-techie users.

Customer Review: Does exactly what it says it does, and that is OK
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to drive a PowerPoint presentation in a large lecture hall. I wanted features to advance, reverse, and blank the screen. This does that. The laser pointer is dandy for entertaining the cats, but I have not figured a need for it in class. Nor do I need the timer. Still, they are both nice features and work easily.

I am running this with another radio device in a USB port, and was worried about frequncy troubles. All worked fine.

I walk the room a great deal during class, and, at least so far, I have not found any range problem (and it is a big room).

I love the size of this thing (small is good) and the buttons are impossible to be confused by (and working by touch takes 10 seconds to get used to).

The only down side is, well, probably having to pay for it. Seriously, if you want a basic presenter, this one works just fine. There are other presenters that have more features. Just make sure what you want is on the device you get.

Customer Review: Very Handy
Summary: 4 Stars

I've only used a few other models for short periods of time so it is difficult to make this a comparative review. Having said that, this unit does exactly what it says it does. I like that the USB dongle fits inside the unit keeping you from losing it. Nice that it does not require any software though I suspect this is true for most of these.

There is an LCD window with a timer (which is nice for some things) but you can't turn it into a clock. At times I wish I had a regular clock and I end up setting the count down timer to keep track of some interval to some particular wall clock time. I suppose the good thing about a simple function for the timer is you don't ever sit there playing with buttons trying to get it into the 'mode' that you want.

In any case, I'd buy this again. Good features for the price and I have never had any range issues with it even in large conference rooms where I am walking around a lot which in the final analysis is what matters most (to me).

Customer Review: Great for classroom lectures, and I keep finding other uses
Summary: 5 Stars

This presentation remote works wonderfully for me in classroom lectures. My major frustration is that the key bindings are entirely specific to PowerPoint (PageUp, PageDn, period, f5, escape). Although this initially made the product less than optimally useful for me--I present PDF files using acrobat--I wrote up a script using the wonderful AutoHotKey for Windows that turns translates the remote's key presses into ones that work for me. I can now even use the remote to control iTunes playback!

I should note that I was initially skeptical of the timer feature's usefulness. As it turns out, I love the warnings during my lectures. I set it to buzz me just before the midpoint in class; after I feel the buzz, I give the class a five minute break at the next natural break point. I would have been the first to say my watch served me just fine, but it feels so much more natural to look down and see a countdown timer rather than having to do the (easy) subtraction mid-lecture.

Customer Review: Perfect for frequent presenters
Summary: 4 Stars

I give a lot of presentations as a part of my job and the Logitech Presenter works really well and has a lot of nice features.

Pros: Start presentation button, blank screen buttons are handy for getting setup and started fast. The countdown timer with silent vibrate warnings is also very nice when you are in time-constrained situations. Storage of the USB receiver in the unit is also very convenient. Laser pointer is nice and the unit and its buttons are a good size for my hands.

Nice to have: Auto-off switch when you put the USB receiver in its storage slot in the unit. Right now there is a manual switch which prevents battery drain while not in use, but I could see potentially forgetting to switch that off from time to time.

Could be better: The soft case that comes with it is a good idea, but the one that came with mine is too small and the velcro closure barely reaches if I stretch it. Reposition the velcro and it would be perfect.
