Customer Review: PERFECT for Skype - inexpensive, clear, & lightweight

I already had a pair myself - use for skype w/a buddy living abroad - and purchased this for another family member who now has skype. Suits purposes for skype perfectly - lightweight, the mic rotates completely so you can have it on the left or right side, the sound coming in & going out is plenty good for the price and just an excellent inexpensive product.
In response to a couple other negative comments, just about all computers I know of have the standard jacks this uses to plug in. I have a new laptop, a family member has an older desktop computer, my buddy has a PC notebook thing, and they all have the necessary plugs. It has a dual-plug attached to a single cord - one plugs into the mic outlet & the other plugs into the speaker outlet - just make sure you have the two outlets (microphone & speakers) on your computer before buying. Also, if you are looking for "studio quality" then you will be wanting to spend more then $13.00 on headphones anyways. Finally, Skype takes some tinkering with the custom sound settings once you open it. I found it has nothing to do with the headphones or mic.

I got this headset specifically for use with the Left 4 Dead computer game -- I wanted to be able to speak with my friends in multiplayer games rather than have to type messages out. For this purpose (online games), the headset is perfect. I looked at the $50+, $100+, and even $200+ headsets, but decided they were not worth that kind of money to play a video game that doesn't even cost that much.
I've been using it for two months and am completely satisfied. This level of quality cannot be beat at this price point. Get more for your money with this <$15 headset..
I did have to make some adjustments to the mic sensitivity in the game settings, because I was apparently blasting out my friends ears with static at first. The change was easily made, and it has worked fine ever since.
It also works fine with various VoIP programs, and while I haven't used it with Rosetta Stone or other language programs, I am sure it would be fine for those too.
I suspect the few poor reviews are either from people who actually received defective products or those who did not take the time to adjust their settings for optimal use. Every product ever made has had a few defective units from time to time, just get over it and have it replaced.

I just noticed that these are around $30 right now. THIS IS A HUGE RIPOFF. Note that most of these positive reviews were written a while ago. I bought these when they were $9. At $30 you have way better options.
Pros:
-Sturdy
-Open design means it's very comfortable. No clip-ons or padding that seals your ears in, which makes it comfortable for wearing for long periods of time.
-Easy to use. If you have windows you basically just plug it in, adjust your mic volume, and it works.
-Cheap.
-Lightweight
Cons:
-Open headphones=sound leak. If you turn up your music, people around you will know.
-They don't work with macs. Works fine on linux though.(and windows obviously)
-They don't come with any software. This means you will have to know how to configure mic/sound volume on your computer.
-The mic and headphone plug are very close together, so I would NOT(!!!!!!!!) buy these for desktops. Also, the cord is not that long, make sure you see the specifications before you purchase.
The thing with the cons is, they're not really design flaws, just the way the thing is made.

I bought these headphones almost a year ago to use with Skype, and have had a great experience. I don't play games on the computer, so can't speak to that. I use a laptop, so the problem of the pieces that plug into the microphone and headphone outlets not stretching far enough is not an issue. The sound quality is like the other person is in the room, and I'm told by the people on the other end of the line that the microphone quality is fantastic, too. I love that the microphone is on a piece of sturdy, flexible wire so that I can position it exactly where I want it. The headband is adjustable, but somehow it doesn't fit my head perfectly. Since I don't jump around while I'm on it, this doesn't matter--at least it's comfortable. I like that the cord is so long, because it allows me to move around the room a bit if I need to get something. The microphone on this is terrible.
The earphones are very comfortable, and the sound is adequate (though not as loud as the Cyber Acoustics AC-201
The mic doesn't pick-up sound well, AND the mic is too short. Most low quality mics, the ones found on these cheap headset,s need you to place the mic very close to your mouth. That's fine, but this mic stem is so short, that -with my normal-sized head- I can't get the mic right between my lips - where this lousy mic has to be to pick up anything.
I bought this and the Cyber Acoustics AC-201, to compare them. The latter is louder and its mic much better.
