Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300NCustomer Review: Nice Design And Performance (Long Detailed Review) Summary: 4 Stars
(Running: Windows 7 Ultimate)
I bought this to replace my Wireless-G PCI adapter since I bought a nice Netgear Router (Wireless-N). I tried the Netgear Wireless N USB adapter and I hated it. Didn't perform good at all for me. So I decided to stick to the good old PCI. (I don't have PCI-E).
Installation:
I am experienced with computers (a lot) so it was no biggy for me to take out the old adapter and plug in this one.
Installing the card with drivers is the biggest part you have to watch out for. I remember previously for my old Wireless G adapter, I downloaded the newest drivers from the Linksys website ahead of time and saved it to my desktop.
As for the drivers and software's that linksys always provides in the original packaging it never turns out good.
And for Windows 7 users, you must download the drivers and save it somewhere ahead of time or else the computer can't install it properly.
For XP, Vista, 2000, you should be fine from reading the requirements.
Performance:
I expected a 300 Mbps connection between my computer and my router and I am not that far away from my router at all. Only 2 walls are in the way. I always get stuck around 165Mbps-230Mbps.
I was a little low on money so i bought the refurbished device so that may be the case
But I still see the difference in speed and I can browse alot faster, download faster, and less Jitter and smooth online game play.
(To check your performance, Right click on your taskbar and click on "Start Task Manager" > hit the networking tab > and look at the Linkspeed which it should give you a number ending with Mbps
No dropped connections yet and it has been 2 weeks.
Design:
I am simply in love with the design, it looks very high tech (the antenna) and "wows" my friends and family. The only feature I wanted from it is the ability to mount it on the wall somehow. Rather than the antenna sitting on the desk, but that's just me.
OVERALL:
Speed= 9/10
Design= 10/10
Ease Of Installation= 8.5/10
I say go for it.
(UPDATE)
Well it's been almost 2 months and there has been sometimes where I was still connected to the router but no internet connection. This can be fixed by simply disconnecting the connection between your computer and your router wait 1-2 minutes. Then reconnect to the router. This happens maximum once ever 2 weeks. It doesn't bother me though.
Description of Cisco-Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300NThe Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter installs in most desktop and tower PCs, and lets you put your computer almost anywhere in the building without the cost and hassle of running network cables. Now you don't have to drill holes in your walls and climb through the attic or cellar to get connected to the network. The Wireless-N PCI Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G. With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G. Once you're connected, you can surf the web, keep in touch with your e-mail, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network. To protect your data and privacy, your wireless connection is secured by up to 256-bit WPA2 encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step.
