Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Print Server with Multifunction Printer SupportCustomer Review: An Absolute Breeze to Setup Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product because I work from home on a laptop, and I wanted to be able to print wirelessly from any room in my house. I read several reviews here because I thought that it might be a daunting task to set up this print server on my home network. I set up two laptops and a desktop computer in about one hour total time (Excluding the time it took to install the printer drivers on each of the computers).
The documentation from Linksys was absolutely perfect. It is comprised of two steps for the initial installation of the print server on your first machine. In step one you basically configure the print server on your wireless network. In step two you configure your actual computer. After you complete these two steps on your wireless computer, you are almost home free. You simply have to complete step two only on your other machines that you want to add to your wireless network. Simply put, the documentation from Linksys is picture perfect, and makes the job literally a breeze.
I have this device connected to a HP 2015 laser printer because I print a lot of material for work. The printer and print server work flawlessly together and I have zero complaints. Wireless is the painless way to go.
Customer Review: Works good - but NOT with Vista 64 bit Summary: 3 Stars
Overall I was very happy with this printserver...UNTIL I tried to add in a new HP laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
All my other machines installed and worked fine (desktop 32 bit Vista & Win2K laptop) but the 64 bit Vista machine will not even install. Ironically I was able to run the initial print server setup from the 64 bit Vista laptop, but when I went back to install the software so that laptop could access the print server I got the error: "the OS is not support". Come on - that is not even a fully formed English sentence, but that is as far as you get with a 64 bit Vista machine!
I did some digging and it looks like there is no current driver to support the 64 bit Vista systems. Here is where Linksys has dropped the ball. Linksys doesn't even acknowledge the driver issue online and show Vista as supported on their site. A search of their support forums will confirm the problem however. When contacted support acknowleded there is no driver for 64 bit Vista and they had no idea if there ever would be one. Gee, that was helpful!

Customer Review: Caution about this product if you use Vista -64 bit operating system Summary: 1 Stars
Before you buy this product check to make sure your computer is not working on Vista's 64 bit operating system. Seems most PCs these days are being sold with Vista 64 bit but this product DOES NOT SUPPORT this operating system.
My HP computer is fairly new and after 4 calls to India, I was told "NO DRIVERS ARE AVAILBALE FOR VISTA -64 bit". I wondered, "how can a company such as Linksys sell a product that will NOT run on million of new PC's being sold these days ?"
It's like selling me a new car and telling me it "runs on a special fuel that is not available".
So what do you do with this product once you've bought it and NO where does it say " This product does not run on Vista 64 bit PCs" ?.
I suggest potential buyers read the LINKSYS forum regarding this product. The frustration voiced here is a "MUST READ".
I remain shocked that a quality company like Linksys would be so "ill prepared" selling a product to unsuspecting buyers with no DRIVERS available". The product manager should be embarassed.
Buyers .....Beware ...... If you have infinite time and patience this product is for YOU.
Customer Review: Don't buy this product!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This product has given me more grief to install than setting up the whole wired and wireless network in my house. I used an HP PSC 1350 as USB printer. I have 2 XP computers, 1 desktop and 1 laptop. The WPSM54G took hours to install on a desktop XP, and it is very critical that the sequence of events get followed. I got it working there but the reason why we need a network printer is for multiple computers. Then tried on a wireless laptop XP, and spent days figuring out how to make it work. Even Linksys tech support couldn't provide an answer why the install stops at 76%. Read a bunch of reviews and like anyone, I was stubborn to listen because it is a Linksys. I'm convinced now that this product should be taken out of the market as it damages the Linksys brand. I bought it on sale and I got what I paid for. I would suggest that people buy a new printer with a network card built in rather than this product. Sell the old printer, or donate them to family/friends, then use the money for the new printer. It'll save you far more time in my mind. I have a 3rd Vista and I will not even dare to install the WPSM54G as uninstall is not clean. Buyers anyone???
Customer Review: Working great with Canon MP830 Summary: 4 Stars
I was able to easily setup this print server with three computers. I have been printing and scanning sucessfully! I do not expect to fax with it so I haven't tried that function.
If you have the printer already installed, I found that I had to uninstall the printer first then re-install it then install the print server next. I had a bit of an issue until I found in the manual, 'NOTE: Linksys strongly recommends that you set up your printer and install your printer's driver before you install the PrintServer's driver.' I found this to be a requirement rather than a recommendation.
I found very little info on the Linksys website. In fact I only found one website out of 14 that had more than just the model number and price. I found out about this model from Linksys Tech support while trying to make the WPS54G work with my Mult-function Machine.
I am using the WPSM54G with a built-in WI-FI w/Speedbooster and a Linksys WMP54GS w/Speedbooster PCI slot adapter. The print server is not a Speedbooster product however all my printing and scanning has been fast enough for me!
