Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Print Server with Multifunction Printer SupportCustomer Review: Does not work for Windows Vista at ALL Summary: 2 Stars
It also somehow corrupted the system restore database. Installation is two part, the wireless part UI does not even start right. I have to configure that on XP system. Using the method on the Linksys system to configure the wireless found out the WEP method it support using different key length than our wireless AP -- which is not made by Linksys. By the WEP standard, the WEP-64 key length is 13, and WEP-128 key length is 26. This Linksys printer server using WEP-64 max key length 10! We already have the access point programed with max WEP64 key length 13, so this device will not work, unless we re-program the access point and all the devices and notebook communicate with the AP. Why Linksys does not allow the max length the standard specified?
Second part installation is the printer server driver installation, which hang at 99% compeletion on Vista. After reboot the system, it shows the driver installed, but it does not work with a failure sign on the driver on Vista.
Try to remove the partial install by run Vista System Restore to get rid of the Linksys driver to the OS change. However, the system restore can not run successfully, this Linksys installation corrupted the system restore database!
Can not believe After a year Vista release, Linksys still making device that is not Vista compatible!
Customer Review: Absolute piece of junk! Summary: 1 Stars
There is no way to give this zero stars or I would!
I have been trying for months to get the this piece of junk to work. In my experience I have found Linksys to extremely poor customer service, however, for the most part their products have worked or I have been able to get them to work. Not this junk.
When I first purchased it I was unable to get it to work on my desktop - finally broke down and called customer service. After a few hang-ups (by them) and others techs who just didn't understand I was told for $10 they would remote access my computer and install. FINALLY after 90 minutes got it to work. Told I could call back in and have a second computer configured - then they wouldn't honor that when I did call back.
Started working on it myself. Configured my laptop - works for maybe a week then nothing. I have reinstalled until I just can not do it again.
NEVER worked with Adobe files - would send it into a mad printing of strange characters across the top of a page - 10s of pages.
DO NOT waste your time or money!!! They haven't updated the firmware since Dec 2008 so all the features (scan, fax) will not even work on the HP multi-purpose printer I have.
09/2009 - UPDATE! The firmware still has to be updated. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!!
Customer Review: Great product...if you can get it setup Summary: 3 Stars
I have a HP PSC 750xi and was able to get the PrintServer setup, but not without much difficulty. I didn't encounter any problems with the wireless portion of the setup; it was typical of any other wireless product. When it came time during the installation for the print server drivers, however, the install program would hang consistently while verifying them.
After about 3-4 hours with tech support (1 agent extremely unhelpful, the other much better) I was emailed a driver to use. The first time after installing the driver, it didn't work, but after mucking with the printer settings some more, it finally did. I honestly don't know if it was the driver I was sent or some setting I finally got right; I was mostly following the advice given on the Linksys customer forums.
Now that it is working, I have had zero problems with the device. It's great to be able to print from the laptop anywhere in the house.
So, in a nutshell, it seems to me that some printers are easier than others to setup with the PrintServer. If in your research before buying, you find that your printer plays nicely with the PrintServer setup, I would highly recommend this product; otherwise, be prepared, because you might have to do some troubleshooting setting this up.
Customer Review: Hard to set up and forget about Windows 7 Summary: 2 Stars
Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G Print Server with Multifunction Printer Support This device is very confusing to set up. There are multiple steps of "unplug this, now plug in that, then unplug the first thing, now do this, etc." And they must be done in order, or you have to start over again. There's no going back one or two steps. If you get an error message or the program can't immediately find your network or the router it crashes. And beware that when it asks for the WEP key and invites you to create one DON'T, because unless you use the key already on your router you won't be able to connect. Then when I got through all the rigamarole finally and went to install the driver on my computer I found that apparently Cisco never heard of Windows 7. I got a poorly translated message (must originally been in Chinese) which told me that the OS was "no" supported. I went to the Cisco website assuming that there'd be an updated driver for Windows 7, but no mention of it, only Vista and XP. So for me the device is completely useless. And anyway I was hoping to add my wife's Mac to the server, but once again, no support. Bottom line, be VERY careful about ordering this device!
Customer Review: Great Print Server Summary: 5 Stars
My older Linksys print server died after a couple years and I decided to replace it with this one. I also have a Linksys wireless router so I decided to stick with another Linksys product. The setup was very easy installing this on all three (3) computers: a Dell Desktop PC upstairs with Windows XP with the printer, a Gateway laptop with Windows XP, and a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. The printer is a Canon i860 color printer and is not a multifunctional printer (fax, scan, etc.)
I had all 3 PCs up and running within an hour without any problem. The CD wizard makes this setup a breeze, really simple...just follow the directions and you'll be up and running in no time. I hope this one lasts longer than 3 years. One thing I did that the directions did not mention was to unistall the old print server software from all the PCs. I'm not sure that makes a difference, but it's always a good idea to uninstall any software that is not needed. The only downside was the price, even though Amazon did have the best price around. Then again, all the print servers I looked at seem to be overpriced. I guess that's the price you pay for wireless and convenience!
Overall, a great print server and works perfect with Windows Vista.
