Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter

Customer Review: the pci card alternative
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this USB product because the Linksys networking PCI card I had was always dropping the wireless signal and my MagicJack wouldn't function well. I installed the software from the CD provided. It was slightly tricky because it wanted me press a button on the wireless modem that the modem didn't have. But the solution was just to press "skip", and on the next page type in my network password. After that everything worked fine. I immediately had a strong signal, probably because I could mount the USB adapter 6 feet up the wall with the extender cable provided. The only issue I have with it after 3 weeks is that after I log off into sleep mode and then later come back up I lose the USB connection. That's solved by unplugging and then re-inserting the adapter plug into the USB port. I use XP Pro.

Customer Review: WORKS FINE
Summary: 4 Stars

The Linksys WUSB600N works just fine for me. I needed to buy a wireless adapter for my new Vista machine and did a little research as always on Amazon and found this wireless adapter. I having been using this device six months now and have not noticed any major problems. Setup was simple just installed it and away I went. My wife did report some occasional connection drops when sending files via Skype, not sure if this is the cause.

I must admit that my requirements are quite low, I am basically just looking for internet connection to my access point with the occasion computer to computer file transfer. Needless to say having USB is great since it does not take up any desk space. I would definitely recommend this one and would have given 5 stars if not for the aforementioned disconnects.

Customer Review: Substandard Linksys quality
Summary: 2 Stars

Typically, I've had good luck with Linksys products; however, this unit has been the exception. It fried itself after 13 months (conveniently 1 month after the warranty expired). In addition, reception was never good. I had originally upgraded both my wireless router/switch and network adapter from older Linksys G models to newer Linksys N models. Signal strength actually declined as a result, and speeds were no better. This was a disappointment.

As an aside, I would NOT recommend registering your products. Unfortunately, doing so sets the clock ticking on the 1-year warranty period. If you fail to register, there is a better chance that you'll be able to finesse a replacement product out of the Company even after the warranty period has expired.

Customer Review: Good Performance, Average Monitoring Capability
Summary: 4 Stars

Performance on both N and G are excellent in terms of throughput and signal strength. G is approximately 3 to 4 dB better (approximately twice the signal strength in terms of power) G throughput is 2.5 megabytes per sec, N performance is 10 megabytes per second.

I tried management of the adapter with both Windows XP internals, and the provided Linksys software. Neither provide adequate monitoring capabilities. The software provided with a cheap Netgear G USB adapter was far superior (it permitted constant graphing of throughput, as well as a table of throughput rates.)

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the performance of the adapter, and use Net Stumbler to monitor strength and a couple of other small utilities to monitor throughput.

Customer Review: Works with Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit BUT.....
Summary: 4 Stars

Running on Win7 64 bit Ultimate, product works fine; install was seemless. Did not use the bundled network settings software though, never a fan of that bloatware. Performance is great, no issues here. Tried both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands, both had expected performance (better range with 2.4, but slower Mbps/ 5.0 GHz has lower signal strength, but faster Mbps). My only issue with this product is that every time the computer is set to SLEEP or HIBERNATE, upon wakeup, the device is not recognized. I have to un-plug and re-plug the adapter back in. I am using the provided cord and dock, so maybe the voltage drop is causing this issue? Other than that, I am satisfied with the product. Hopefully Linksys/CISCO comes out with a fix for this....
