Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network AdapterCustomer Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these in December '08 to upgrade a PC in my house with "n" speed to connect with my new Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). I installed the drivers and software on the PC and it fired right up and connected to the WPA/WPA2 encrypted network (after inputting the password, of course). I have a second PC in the house that I can't get to connect, with encryption, to the network, after much time spent on trying to do so. So I am buying a second one as I know it will work seemlessly as the first one did/does. The range is great, as is the speed, using this adapter and AEBS with "n" speed. I would highly recommend this adapter if you are trying to wirelessly connect your PC to an AEBS! I'm a recently converted PC - to - Mac person, so I would actually recommend that you throw your PC away (oh, excuse me - recycle it), and get a Mac!! Everything is so much easier, simpler, and more intuitive!
Customer Review: Supports Higher Bandwidth but Sacrafices Range Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this Dual Band WUSA600N adapter to work with a new Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual Band router. The distance from the WRT610N Access point is only about 30 feet, but there are three 6 inch hollow brick walls ( different kind of construction at this location) in the straight line path between the router and the access point. The 5K band has less signal strenghth than the 2.4k band and this USB WUSB600N USB network adapter connects with the WRT610N with less signal strength than my old Netgear WG111v2 wireless G adapter ( I got refurbished for $10). So upgrading to Wireless N and Dual Band did not help the situation. I still have a wavey signal that sometimes disconnects. The best configuration is to use the WRT610N with the Wireless G USB adapter on the 2.4 band, regardless of the 8 others that have signals broadcast in the immedate area. I have 3 computers in this room to try various configurations.
Customer Review: BEWARE - No Windows 7 Support Currently from Linksys Summary: 1 Stars
At the current time (January 2010) Linksys does not support this adapter (WUSB600N) on Windows 7 and there is no Windows 7 driver available from Linksys. Do not believe the Linksys Windows 7 Compatibility FAQ that says otherwise. If you wish to have support from Linksys for this adapter on Windows 7, verify that Linksys has a Windows 7 driver to download before buying it.
Note also that hardware version 1 of this adapter, which is what you will probably get if you order a recertified or refurbished adapter, or if your vendor has old stock, may never be supported by Linksys on Windows 7.
There are Windows 7 drivers available for this adapter from other sources (Windows 7 RTM includes one, and the chipset manufacturer, Ralink has one), but they are not supported by Linksys.
Linksys will probably support hardware version 2 of this adapter on Windows 7 eventually.
Customer Review: Very pleased with this product Summary: 5 Stars
Just moved into the wireless networking environment at home after years of using DSL internet. Got the WUSB600N (v2) adapter for my home desktop computer which is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. It consistently picks up the signal from my wireless router (Cisco E4200) with excellent signal strength, even though the router is downstairs in a different room and my desktop computer (Dell Inspiron 530) is upstairs. Right after I ordered the product, I noticed that Cisco's website recommended the newer AE1000 adapter for desktop computers, and I was a bit concerned that I'd purchased an out-of-date product. But my worries were groundless. The WUSB600N v2 works just great. I did need to download and install the newest driver (3.0.10.0) in order to prevent the connection from being interrupted when my computer would wake from sleep mode. But since then, I have not had a single problem.
Customer Review: Will not connect with the Internet Summary: 1 Stars
After about 5 hours of work, including hours on the phone with Linksys support, I cannot get this network adapter to connect to the Internet from my Windows 2000 Pro computer through my Linksys WRT160N wireless router. The Wireless-N adapter will connect with the WRT160N, but not with the Internet. When I replaced the Wireless-N with my old WUSB11, the WUSB11 connected immediately. Plus, the Wireless-N software is much slower than that for the WUSB11. The wait for telephone support was short. However, the person did not appear to know anything but the scripts she had been given -- real trouble-shooting was not part of the conversation.
While I've been happy with Linksys equipment for years. This new product is going back to Staples tomorrow and I'll see if someone else's equipment works better.
For more information, see my review of the WRT160N.
