Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network AdapterCustomer Review: Flawless Adapter Summary: 5 Stars
Got two of these adapters about two months ago when I upgraded my router to a Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router , These Adapters have NEVER dropped the connection with the router, We have two computers in my home (Both with this Adapter), I got one in the same room as my router, and the other downstairs (behind a cement floor and one brick wall), ZERO problems so far, I get a very good signal downstairs, the computers feel like they are on a wired adapter, I Download torrents all day long and ZERO problems with the network connection.
Wireless-N it a BIG upgrade from Wireless-G, awesome speed (at least 4x Faster) and increased Range.
Range on the 2.4 Ghz is better than the 5 Ghz Band, but 5 Ghz is good to have if you live in a place with other wifi networks using the 2.4 Ghz Band (Not my care), You CAN'T use both Band simultaneously.
Windows 7 didn't require a driver for it to work (pretty cool), XP and Vista requires driver installation from the CD.
NOTE: just bought a 3rd of these adapters.
Customer Review: Horrible - after 4 hours with customer service still did not work Summary: 1 Stars
I have been dealing with WIFI for years. Have set up office and home wireless with little or no trouble. I have always used Linksys routers. I have four presently running. Three are the older model wireless-G and one wired model. I have also used linksys adapters for my three Xbox 360's with no problems. However, this WUSB600N is the pinnacle of useless. I have a replacement model from Linksys that is a refurbished model. IT will NOT connect to my Linksys e2000 wireless router. When it does connect, the internet is sporadic at best if at all.
I have a cheap Belkin USB wireless-N adapter that I bought to see if I could indeed connect to this router wirelessly. I have an Xbox-360 and PS3 hardwired to the router with no problems.
I am running windows-7 32-bit on a Lenovo M58 with 4 gigs ram and 320HD. With the Belkin, my connection took all of three minutes. With no problems and a stronger signal.
So much for the expensive Linksys adapters. I will still buy their routers for now. But I will NOT buy their adapters, nor can I recommend this one to even my worst enemy. Steer clear of this piece of junk.
Customer Review: Not a great value in the long run Summary: 2 Stars
I would not purchase this adapter again because the quality is cheap and it only worked for just over a year before puttering out. I used this for a desktop pc, not a laptop, so it was only used sporadically and was not subjected to the abuses incurred during frequent transport to and fro (like with a laptop or laptop accessories).
I don't understand why they can't make a reasonably priced adapter that lasts longer than the manufacturer's warranty (12 months).
On the plus side, there were few connection issues and installation was fairly simple (mostly because I had done it before with other belkin products). I think the average person would spend a couple hours during set-up. I don't recommend using the belkin software to troubleshoot or connect because it is klunky and poorly designed. I always stuck with the windows internet connection setup wizards since they were simpler to use and more reliable.
In the end, I gave it two stars for lack of quality and value. I don't mind spending the money on electronic items when they are well-made and long-lasting.
Customer Review: Works Great - No Problems (with Caveat) Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the WUSB600N wireless network adaptor to support my 5.5 year old Sony Pentium 4. The WUSB600N is the size of a large thumb drive and it uses a USB connection on one end. It comes with a USB stand for use with desktops but can also be connected directly to laptops.
Thus far, the unit has worked great but . . . I did not install the unit as instructed by the directions. Having had problems with Linksys software on a previous wireless card, I took a hint from another reviewer and I hooked it up and used the Windows XP install hardware utility to install the unit. Just use the driver off the Linksys install CD. I use the XP wireless network connection to manage it. The Verizon wireless G router is on the second floor and I use this in the basement with no connectivity problems.
I think the WUSB600N is great, the small size takes up almost no space on my desk and the USB format means I can swap it between machines. I am completely satisfied and recommend it - with the installation caveat.
Customer Review: Perfect with WIN 7 32-Bit Summary: 5 Stars
I installed this (V2) on two machines, both WIN 7 32-bit. One a 6yr old P4 and the other a 2yr old Quad-core. The P4 is Dual Boot XP/Win7, but I did not install in XP. WIN7 could not find a driver, so I installed with the LINKSYS disk. It took about 5 minutes and installed perfectly with excellent signal strength. No secret there, my router, a WRT54G is only about 12ft away. I left this adapter on the Quad and transferred my WUSB54GC to the P4, WIN7 picked up the 54.
Nowhere on my adapter's packaging does it mention Windows 7 compatibilty, either 32 or 64. VISTA yes. Just because it is certified for VISTA does not make it automatically WIN 7 compatible. If people buy it for WIN7 under the assumption that it should work because 7 is similar to VISTA, they are wrong. I made no such assumption, I just took the chance and won. Most of my hardware/software has migrated well from XP and VISTA, maybe my equipment has a more friendly environment. However, if anything goes wrong later, I will report it.
