Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network AdapterCustomer Review: Linksys WUSB600N= EASY AS PIE! Summary: 4 Stars
I had just purchased a HP Pavilion Elite with Windows 7. I special ordered it and debated having WIFI installed with the special order. Decided against it because the wireless Ethernet modem was less than 4 feet away from the computer's tower. Then we decided to rearrange the upstairs. Now the tower was about 25 feet away from the wireless modem. After that decision, and the new HP was here with only an Ethernet connection, I went to AMAZON.com to look for a wireless adapter. My first attempt fell flat on my nose because I wanted a back end internal mounted adapter just to keep things neat. The adapter I got would not fit the PCI-Express x 1 Slots. So I held my breath and ordered the Linksys WUSB600N. It arrived today at 12:15. I opened the box, read the instructions to install, hesitated, thought about the advice of one of the reviewers, and took his advise and plugged the adapter into the USB port with out installing the enclosed Linksys CD. Within two minutes the down load was successfully completed. I unplugged the Ethernet connection, typed in the password for the modem sent and received an e-mail on my lap top, and I was done. Up and running and the clock said "12:40." Was I lucky? Will it really work? Time will tell! If I have problems I will be back to tell everyone.
Customer Review: WUSB 600N ADAPTER STABLE BUT SLOW PERFORMANCE Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this adapter for its name and reading about suggested performance from a circuit city sale outlet at a remarkably low price of 45 dollors.
Now my PC runs on Windows xp and i have two other laptops, none of them mac, the adapter installation was smooth on my computer, howevevr when I tried to shift the location of my desktop away from my router within 15 meters the signa started weakning, despite my cable internet when wired is connected at a speed of 100mbps the MAXIMU adapter does is only 54mbps!!!!!, no where do they specify in the manual that it does only 54 mbps???, dual band is a daylight robbery if you buy this adapter for the LINKSYS name associated with this.
If you are installing on XP PC use the installation that comes with XP do not connect using the adapter mode it will not connect!!!.
Howevevr on the positive side my connection remains stable howevevr the speed of my computer had halved!!!
This adapter doesnot work beyond 25 meters from any router, I have checked with my own laptops when they can pick up all 5 bars in any remote corner of my house this adapter picks up only 1/2 bars except within 15 meters when it picks up all 5 bars though speed seems to be slower than when the adapter is near the router.
Customer Review: Poorly made piece of garbage Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased two WUSB600Ns to go with my new WRT160N. I wish I hadn't. The primary problem with this adapter beyond it's crappy connection quality is that it is made very poorly. The plastic casing is made of two thin pieces of plastic that click together around the hardware. They do not stay closed well at all. They fit loosely around the adapter and have fallen off several times. In addition to that, the USB connection itself is VERY loose where it is soldered into the circuit board inside the adapter. You can literally shift it in and out about 1/8 of an inch! This is thing is so SHODDY and poorly made that I can't believe it's made by the same people who designed the sexy WRT160N or my old and amazingly good G-band router (WRTG54G complete with Tomato firmware).
Additionally, the connection is tenuous at best. I get only 1 bar of signal from one end of my house to the other. To put that in context, the laptop's built in wireless (G-band only) gets 4 bars. So basically using this adapter equals about a 300-400% decrease in signal strength for me. Even though N-band is faster, with limited connection quality it doesn't matter.
I'd steer clear of this piece of junk. It doesn't work well even when it isn't falling apart.
Customer Review: Worked when DLINK DWA160 didn't! Summary: 5 Stars
5 stars to Cisco-Lynksys WUSB600N!!!!!
Been having a huge problem with Dlink DWA 160 HW Ver B1 FW ver 2.00 adapter dropping wireless connection all the time (every 5 or 10 minutes), large downloads fail, web pages stop loading, etc. Using DLINK 655 wireless router. "Received Deauthentication Token", "wireless system with MAC address ... associated, wireless system with MAC address ... linked" entries endlessly in wireless router log. As an IT professional, decided to figure out and fix the problem. On the phone with tech support for hours and hours, no changes. Days on the web researching, lots of people with the same problem, but no fix. Tired of BS from vendors saying its "interference" or some other externel problem. Starting to look like a problem with the 802.11n specification.
Had to buy a new wireless adapter for daughter's computer, decided to try the Cisco-Lynksys WUSB600N, and following suggestions from others, inserted the adapter first, then manually selected the driver location onthe CD. Up and running in less than 2 minutes. PROBLEM WITH DROPPING SIGNAL COMPLETELY CURED. Not a single error in wireless router log for 2 days now, not a single dropped connection, downloaded 3GB file with absolutely no problem at all.
Customer Review: drivers out of date Summary: 1 Stars
After returning the first adapter as defective, and after many hours on the phone with the tech people on the first adapter and its replacement, a tech rep finally admitted that the driver for the WUSB600N is not compatible with Microsoft Servicepak 3, which I assume has been installed on virtually every pc in existence. This means that installation requires you to substitute the microsoft drivers, which in turn requires you to type out a very long numerical sequence twice, while seeing only a series of dots. If you make one mistake anywhere along the way, you must start over and do it all over again, without being able to see where you even made the mistake.
After returning the second unit, I finally got smart and bought
the Netgear XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet ADaptor Kit, which uses electric lines to convey the signal. Installation was a non event and I have been extremely happy with the speed and reliability of the units.
It is irresponsible for a name brand manufacturer to intentionally sell equipment which it knows to be incompatible with the equipment it is supposedly designed to work with. SHAME on Linksys!
Amazon customer service, by the way, was excellent.
