Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT600N Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link

Customer Review: Only lasted 1 1/2 years.
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this router based on the reviews at the time and they were pretty good. In fact the router has worked flawlessly until just the other day. It was slowly dying. I'm using high speed cable internet and noticed my internet speed was very slow. You Tube videos were taking forever to load. Running an internet speed test I found that my internet speed was about 1/4 of what it should be. At first I suspected the cable modem, but after resetting it, the problem still existed. Then I reset the router and the speed would return to normal, but only for a few hours. I flashed the router with the latest Linksys firmware which did not help. Cleared all the settings back to factory and started from scratch, and still no joy. Did some research and found that someone else had the exact same problem with this unit - he was advised by Linksys to replace the router. Rather than fussing with it anymore, especially with some of the more recent reviews, I ended up just replacing the router and I'm back to normal. Sad it only lasted 18 months.

Customer Review: A very difficult company to deal with

This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.

So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.

Customer Review: bought it and loved it since!

i was looking to upgrade to the next wireless standard and reviewed quite a few products and i'm happy to say that this purchase is solid for my first linksys buy dated 4/7/08, out of the box...it functions well as advertised. basic setup was straight forward and the console is the usual...web base, once you've seen one they are similar in getting around to configure, and the router looks great too...stealthy. there is a lot of features that most home users are not gonna use, but its nice to have when needed. tinkering around with the settings to tailor your needs after you tried out the defaults. currently on the 5ghz settings, 40 mhz channel @ 5.2 ghz for n adapters only and the 2ghz settings, 20 mhz channel @ 2.462 ghz for g only adapters. both are setup with wpa2-personal/aes encryption/36 sec renewal. i'm connecting at 270 mbps most of the time while using the wec600n adapter...what i would like, is the capability to restart the device remotely...but thats minor.

Customer Review: works great and looks great

I could not wait to install the Linksys WRT600n. Fortunately, I have a friend in my company IT department who helped me install this unit and my home network. This made things very easy. Once the unit was installed I noticed immediately that internet speeds increased tremedously, not only over my wifi network but on the hard wired network as well. I was using an older g wifi router from D-Link. The dual band work as described and the network security was very easy to set up. My laptop and other wifi applications noticed the network quickly and was very easy to setup.

The only draw back was that the software that came with the Linksys kept telling me that it did not recognize the unit and asked that it be turned on. The thing is that it was turned on and working. Other than that I am enjoying gaming online, and have found that I can be a good distance from the unit and still am receiving signal. I would highly recommend.

Customer Review: Nice spec. Lousy implementation.

I just can't recommend this router to anyone at the moment, esp. with some fundamental problems below:
1. DHCP - If you have a dedicated DHCP server somewhere on the network, then forget about this router. The darn thing would still assign IPs even if you disable the DHCP function. It'd also send DHCPNACK with DHCP diabled.
2. DHCP again - If you assign a DHCP range and assign them as static entries. It'd still assign those IPs to other machines.
3. DDNS - Obviously the router doesn't keep track of the WAN IP changes and if you save the configuration a few times, it'd try to update the IP on the dynamic DNS server multiple times, causing the custom domain to be banned.
4. Tech support - Not exactly the router's problem but if you have a support person who'd recommend connecting a cable modem to the LAN port to get around the DHCP problem, you're just not going to trust their tech support anymore.
