Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT600N Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage LinkCustomer Review: Overall a Good Router Summary: 4 Stars
Overall I have to say that this router, being the first wireless router I've bought, does exceptionally well. While the price is a bit much as of this writing, you get what you pay for, in this case a wireless router that lets 802.11g cards enjoy the most they can while the 802.11n cards can perform to their uttermost potential. Using the setup from the Linksys CD made setting up the router painless and a breeze, but at the end of the setup, it told me that it had not recognized or found any internet connection. This was quickly resolved when I went to Linksys' support site, which gave clear and concise instructions as to what to do to resolve the issue, so if you do come up to problems using this router, don't hesitate to go to Linksys's website first to see if the problem to your issue is there (it was for me). After this issue was resolved, I was able to set up the network further through a web browser. Granted, the standard user may not know what all to configure here, but I am sure that a Google search or a look at Linksys's website would give them clear directions as to what to do. I am overall satisfied with the product and completely recommend it to those who have some computers with 802.11n cards and some with 802.11g cards. I look forward to buy another Linksys wireless router in the near future.
Customer Review: A great router now that it's (kind of) affordable Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using this router for about a week. Setup was easy enough, even though I skipped the CD and just dove into the settings manually. The manual gives enough of a description of the settings to make your way around. One thing to note when changing router settings. Save your settings on each tab before you go to the next one. Otherwise, you lose your work. You can't just change all the settings and do one save action.
I teamed this router with the linksys WUSB600N USB adapter using only the N band. Speed has been very good with throughput on my DSL connection benchmarking the same whether wireless or wired. Setup of the USB adapter was very easy too.
The only hick-up I've had was I recently upgraded my DSL speed. That scrambled the router's eggs. I suddenly lost any ability to connect to the net via the router (wirelessly or wired) even though all the settings were correct. Resetting the router and re-changing all the settings again fixed the problem.
The button on the top of the router is still useless until Linksys enables it via a firmware update. It's supposed to make connecting a wireless adapter to the router a one button affair.
Overall, I've been pleased and these two devices were easy to set up and work well together.
Customer Review: poor signal but extremely fast Summary: 4 Stars
This product does not have the signal strength I wanted (the signal strength goes down to about 50% at 25ft from the router). But I'm still able to connect so I suppose it's a workable flaw.
The speed of this router is extremely fast. I wanted to push the limits so I ran 4 separate internet shows on 4 separate computers (3 wired & 1 wireless). I also sent print requests from one of my wired computers to the wireless printer (through the router). And finally I was making and receiving skype calls on my DECT Cordless Phone for Skype VoIP. There were no delays in all 4 of the shows, the print jobs worked, and none of the phone calls were effected.
There are a few problems that I needed to resolve before I was happy with my network. Initially I was running a 2.4GHz cordless phone system that made the wireless network not function. The network was slow and would be lost frequently (most likely due to the cordless phones trying to talk to each other on 2.4GHz), and whenever a phone call was made the wireless network would cut out (it felt like dial-up). I've since upgraded my phones to a DECT Cordless Phone for Skype VoIP that runs at 1.8GHz. This solved the problem.
In summary this product is good as long as you aren't looking for a long range wireless signal.
Customer Review: Linksys WRT600N Summary: 4 Stars
First of all, please ignore the 4 stars. I tried adjusting it, but Amazon won't seem to let me. Assume 2.5 stars...for now.
I originally bought this in April and for a few months I was happy with it. But things have been acting up the last couple of months and I have not yet figured it out. I've added more devices that connect to it and it seems like the mixture of N and G devices are really causing havoc.
I've been experiencing frequent drops and hanging connections. I'm a googler, so I've tried all sorts of things but to no avail. I adjusted beacon interval, packet size, broadcast channel, broadcast mode, etc. If it can be adjusted, I changed it. Things would seem to work for a day, then stop the next.
Customer support is garbage and is no help. I'm actually shocked that they would even call them CS.
I just read that CS had told somebody that they should turn off the dual band and stay with 2.4. I will try that as a next step, but in hopes that it is a temporary solution. Otherwise, that will be the final straw and I'm dumping Linksys. It's sad because I never had a problem with the WRT54G (solid for years), but their N-draft stuff seem to be garbage.
Customer Review: Becareful buying a used one without factory or extended warranty Summary: 4 Stars
I had to buy two used WRT600N routers before I found one that appears to be working correctly.
What I learned thru all of this was that if the router is out-of-factory warranty and in need of repair, you probably won't find anyone to repair it; so it will end up as a "paperweight."
Here's why:
1. The Linksys company will not provide or sell any repair manuals, including schematic diagrams; and
2. The Linksys company will not repair any out-of-warranty routers for a fee.
What choice should the consumer have when they buy a Linksys computer accessory and it goes out-of-warranty?
When shopping for a used router, obtain the router's serial number and version; then telephone Linksys customer service and after you provide them with that information, they will advise you with two interesting pieces of information:
1. The date the router was originally sold and then name of the dealer it was sold by; and
2. The amount of factory warranty remaining on the router.
So, if you're buying a used Linksys WRT600N router, be careful....you could end up being hurt....have you ever had a heavy paperweight fall on you toes? :-)
