Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit RouterCustomer Review: Works well; no dropped connections Summary: 5 Stars
We had an old Linksys 80211b router and replaced it with this one to take advantage of the N speed in our laptops. Setup was easy. The PC we used as an network anchor is about 5 years old and the Linksys software slows the boot-up time on the PC a lot. My guess is this is not a problem with newer PC's.
The network works great. We had problems with the old router reaching certain areas of the house, but this one reaches all areas without dropped connections. We've been using it for about 9 months now with N access cards from Dell, Apple, Lenovo, HP, and have had no issues.
I've read about problems with heat on this unit. It does run hot, but for us it is not a problem. We have leaned it on its side for venting and this has helped.
All in all, this is a very good router.
Customer Review: Great upgrade from Wireless-G Summary: 4 Stars
Before upgrading to the Linksys Wireless-N router I was using a Linksys Wireless-G. The reason for the upgrade was that I was having frequent wireless connection problems that were only fixed by re-setting the modem and router. The last straw was when I added an Apple Airport Express to my wireless network with the intention of streaming music from my Mac to a home entertainment center in the other room. It didn't work. The Wireless-N solved all of the problems. I had some problems configuration however tech support did an excellent job of getting me up and running! My only complaint was with the install CD that came with the router which my Mac didn't recognize and was useless on the PC - it actually caused problems with the set up that tech support eventually identified and helped me remedy. Overall a great product!
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 5 Stars
My 4 year Linksys router started dropping out intermittently so it was time to look for a new one. It's difficult to choose a good router based on specs alone and I try not to just go with the same brand I had as a lot can change in a name. I initially chose the Netgear WNR3500-100NAS based on reviews but after the slow install and it's failure to connect to my devices using WPA2 security I went back to Linksys. So far I'm glad I did. I haven't updated the firmware yet as one reviewer suggested for heat problems but so far the heat coming from it is comparable to my old Linksys. I had it setup in literally under 5 minutes using WPA2 using the supplied CD compared to 20 minutes for the Netgear. I guess time will tell if it has issues like others have posted but so far it's a solid performer with fast speeds.
Customer Review: After initial setup challenges, product works great Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product because I upgraded my Comcast internet service (with download speeds up to 50 Mbps), but my existing router was throttling my connection (limiting download speed to ~3 Mbps). I tried configuring the router using the automated setup application provided with the product's CD, but the setup application failed. I called the technical support operation and was connected with an excellent technician who stepped me through the configuration process (took ~20-30 minutes). After configuring, the router works great. I now average download speeds with Comcast of 40-50 Mbps and have seen spikes of over 70 Mbps on some occasions! If you have a need for speed, this is a great product to have. (Note: Had I not encountered the initial setup problems, I would have rated the product 5 out of 5.)
Customer Review: Great except for crashing twice a day Summary: 1 Stars
This product would be great, except that it crashes frequently and needs to be rebooted (by power cycling it). Typically this happened at least twice a day. It would happen almost instantly under heavy traffic (e.g. streaming video to my mac). I tried upgrading the firmware and that didn't help. I think the problem is a software bug, but it is possible that it is overheating related, although I had the router in a well-ventilated space. In any case, it made the product very annoying to use.
I finally gave up and bought a netgear WNDR3700, which so far has not crashed at all.
Perhaps I got unlucky somehow, but based on my experience I would strongly recommend against buying this product. It is disappointing since I had good luck with previous Linksys products.
