Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit Router

Customer Review: FANTASTIC Router
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic router. I had recently moved from a Verizon Fios area and back into a cable only area. I had been forced for the past several years to endure the Verizon provided router (Actiontec) and it was ok. So I now had an excuse to buy a new router.

I have a mixed environment in my house of both wired and wireless computers. I'm also used to surfing at Verizon FIOS speeds of 20 Mbps up and downstream. So speed is of a high importance to me.

This Linksys router handles my network like a champ. I've had no problems that other posters have experienced. The configuration and setup was a snap and actually going into the router to configure more settings is pretty easy as well.

I highly recommend this router if your looking for a good gigabit router. My speeds are FAST and I've been getting over 16 Mbps on a cable connection. Very nice for cable!

Customer Review: Great Upgrade for BEFSR41
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed to upgrade my old BEFSR41 (wired router) which served me well but did not have WIFI for my new laptop. This guy comes with 1G ports! That was a vast improvement over my old unit, which ran at 100M. Now I not only enjoy the security of my wired PC's (4) but also can link it to WIFI equipment (50!). The WIFI is fast.

Caveat: I had a problem reaching one of my PC's in my network. The problem turned out to be McAfee firewire protection. Some residual setting was blocking inbound traffic. McAfee resolved the problem for me, but because it took me a while to understand why this was happening, I hope I can save some of you time that have the same problem.

I'm very happy with this unit and it has the advanced security encription which I have installed and use. Now I have higher wired speed, increased security and WIFI!

GO FOR IT!

Customer Review: Very Good
Summary: 5 Stars

I read a lot of other peoples' reviews for this product before purchasing it. The problem others mention is that it over heats and cuts out and you then lose internet connection. So, as suggested by a few people, I have the unit standing up so the underside vents are not face down and the heat can dissipate.

One other problem people mentioned was it was hard to get it set up. I had to call the tech help. The phone number is in the literature. The tech was very helpful and pleasant and got me up and running in a very short amount of time. I have been using the unit for a few months and have had no problems.

One tip - if you have more than one computer, such as a desktop and a laptop, have them both on so you are ready if you need to call the tech help. The tech will help you set both to the wireless router.

Customer Review: Difficult to Install, Sketchy Tech Support
Summary: 2 Stars

Let me begin by saying I am fairly technically competent. I was trying to get this device working for over an hour. I was unable to run the installation software on either my Vista or XP pro machine (error message: ethernet cable not conected). I called support and was walked through the ipconfig and the wire connection worked fine.

After this support, the rep asked for $10 to set up the wireless conection. She said that the provided software (LELA) was defective and that the router would not run with it (i.e. fixing their mistake for $10). The support person also said that I would not be able to set it up myself, but there was nothing complicated about it. This ticked me off. I said no, got off the phone, and got everything working within a couple minutes.

The machine looks slick and works well now.

Customer Review: Works Great, although a little frustrating to set up
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product because of it's many features- I wanted to set up a network of four computers in my home- but also because it came with an easy install tutorial and service software. I followed the software instructions perfectly and I still kept getting an error that it wasn't finding a connection. I did this numerous times, and with the help of my company's IT guy, and nothing worked. Desperate to NOT call Geek Squad or some other high priced home service, I called Linksys support. The girl on the line was extremely helpful! Turns out it was something to do with re-setting my MAC address.
Overall this is a great product and since I have had it set up (a month or so) I have not had any issues with it. The software may be a good selling point but so far I have had no use for it (at least that it could help me with).
