Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit RouterCustomer Review: DNS didn't work right on Version 2 hardware Summary: 1 Stars
I got one of these (Version 2 hardware) and found that the DNS did not work right, kept getting "invalid URL" from all browsers and other flaky DNS problems. A reboot would fix the problems for a while, but they'd come back in an hour or in a day, and require another reboot. Went through Linksys support, Linksys user forum, read extensively on the internet, and no fix. I couldn't believe that Linksys would put out such a bad product with firmware problems like I was experiencing, so I got a second one from a different source, and it had the same problems. At that point I gave up on this router altogether. Maybe if they have a new version of firmware for the Version 2 hardware, I might try it again.
I'm incredulous that these kind of problems could get through a major company's QA, but that was my experience, and I've had lot of experience with Windows and routers.
On the other hand, I ended with a Dlink DIR-655 router, and it is working great. No DNS problems, also has gigabit wired ports, and wireless n as well. Very solid, no problems.
Customer Review: Awesome, Excellent, Incredible, Seriously Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated on buying this router based on the mixed reviews I read. But the professional reviews convinced me. Now, after 24 hours of continual use the modem is not at all "HOT" to the touch (barely warm in fact) laying normally on a desk. I have two PC's running, a laptop accessing the wireless and my son had a friend spend the night and so they had 2 Xbox 360's on wireless, too.
No reboots on the modem, awesome signal range and strength, no heat problem whatsoever, install was the easiest I've experienced yet (having used Netgear and Linksys routers in the past) and from opening the box to running was under 10 minutes using the LELA software. Mine came with firmware version "v1.0.06 build 001Oct 6, 2008" installed, and I probably won't upgrade unless I see a need to.
Either Linksys has addressed some of the problems others have noted, or the other reviewers had a lemon or messed up the install. I for one am happy with this modem; the speed, range and strength of signal are all they're hyped up to be. You'll love it... get this one.
Customer Review: Fast and Easy Summary: 5 Stars
This router replaced a Linksys 802.11g router I have had for at least 2 years. I have always been happy with Linksys, so I decided to give this one a try.
Setup was quick and easy. It has a nice low profile on my desk and I really like the easy setup button it has for syncing other products with it.
I've had it pugged in for about 8 hours now and I am not experiencing the heat problems other people have. I don't have anything underneath it and the sides are clear so that might be an issue with others, I don't know. I also have a glass desk that it sits on so maybe that helps more than wood - I have no idea, but I can tell you that I am not experiencing any heat issues.
My setup is using all four ports at once as well as 4 wireless connections. So far I am really happy. First day and all, who knows what the future brings - but it does hook up quick and the quality seems great. I was using a slingbox over 802.11g before - now with this router and an 802.11n bridge (game adapter), I see a great improvement over the 'g'.
Customer Review: Worse range, worse speed than older Linksys Summary: 1 Stars
I had a WRT54GS v4 that worked pretty well but did not give wireless coverage in some of the most used areas on my house. So I bought this "Wireless N Ultra Range Plus" product, thinking that it would probably be better. Silly me..
The setup program worked perfectly, but I can't get reliable reception in the next room (15 feet from the router). The client computers can see the signal and link up to it but the signal strength is impossibly weak and drifts in and out; even when it's good, the speed is one tenth what it was with the old router.
Also, while the setup program worked well, there's another program on the CD (don't remember what it's supposed to do) that wouldn't run on my Vista PC at all. It showered the screen with disconnected buttons, wouldn't do anything, and required a restart to make it go away.
Oddly enough, I haven't had any problem with the router disconnecting itself. Small comfort when the product doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
All in all, I'd say spend your money someplace else.
Customer Review: Great router! Summary: 5 Stars
I was really looking into the E3000 but the price made me think about it. The only difference that I cared about was the dual band capability. After thinking about it, I didn't really care enough for the price difference since I don't have any N devices yet. I do have Gig Ethernet devices though, so that's what made me choose the 310N. Another thing is that I was looking for a router solely to install DD-WRT firmware on it because it has features that I need and router with that feature included cost way more. So, I bought the 310N, installed DD-WRT, configured my settings as needed, and now it's been running for 6 months without a hitch. Great range, handles the load of 3 people in the household streaming Netflix at the same time (in HD) in 3 different TV locations in the house wirelessly, while working on 2 laptops wirelessly. The range is also better than what I had before. The Gig Ethernet works as great as expected, also, and at the same time as above. So I'm happy with it.
