Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband RouterCustomer Review: This product not ready for sale to the public...Awful! Summary: 1 Stars
First I'll say that I've always used Linksys routers and their G router is the best in the land. I know what I'm doing with networks. I have the router and matching laptop card...cannot get it to keep the connection, and the range is way worse than my G router. Don't even get 20% signal 3 rooms away.
I have been on all the linsys forums looking for the magical settings that might make this thing work...linksys can't even respond with a decent answer. Their tech support seems to want to ignore this product.
If you are not a professional IT (and even if you are!), do not buy this setup. You will have wasted over $150. I went back on my G router and then got the Belkin card/pre-n router and it rocks.
It will be a long time before I will buy another linksys/Cisco product. I won't even sell this setup on E-Bay for fear of getting negative feedback and it's brand new! I'm out $150, Linksys won't respond with a recall or firmware/drivers to make these things work.
I hate to deliver such a harsh review, but if you go to Linksys' own forums you will see what I'm talking about. Stay far far away.
Customer Review: It seems quality is no longer important for Linksys. Summary: 1 Stars
This is by far the worst router I have ever owned. I suppose I will just break its many flaws into sections.
Wired
-----
The router I got worked when wired; to a point. I was able to access the router just fine. I could ping, login, and edit settings. However when attempting to load a web page the router took approximately 15 minutes per page.
Wireless
--------
I used this in conjunction with an Intel 4965AGN mini PCIe card. Web pages loaded fast and reliably when using wireless, that is unless you were trying to access a page that was SSL 128 bit encryped (Pages for checking out of an online purchase or accessing your bank account). I had to refresh several times before it would even load the page; and after that there were always all sorts of errors.
Conclution
I even put DD-Wrt on this to make sure that the firmware was not the problem; but to no avail. In the end I bought a Belkin that has worked perfectly (actually it exceeded my expectations). I believe that Linksys has lost a formerly loyal customer (10+years); and Belkin has won one.
Customer Review: Very disappointing effort from Linksys Summary: 1 Stars
Has several known issues, one which may be fixed by firmware but not sure about the others. I am currently using the very latest available firmware from the linksys site.
The first issue is the inability for many wireless clients to reach some Web sites, among them google.com! There's a QoS setting you can change that helps some, but not all, wireless clients. Perhaps there will be a firmware update that will fix that.
Two other problems include the constant dropping of signal by some wireless clients, and an absolutely atrocious range with a dramatic corresponding loss in speed.
Is that something that can be fixed with programming or is that purely a problem of bad design? I wouldn't have the expertise to know and no answers from Linksys have been forthcoming.
My current Linksys 802.11g router--the WRT54GS--runs RINGS around this thing!
I e-mailed a request for information to Linksys last week. They e-mailed back that they working on the problem, but since then...crickets.
Amazon, you will be receiving a package from me soon.... :-(
Customer Review: Version 1.1 Works Great for Me Summary: 5 Stars
I read the reviews after getting home with the box and was shocked at the variety of opinion on the product here at Amazon. I did a little digging on Linksys' site. There are two models of this product, 1.0 and 1.1. The 1.1 product came out in early June 2007. The notes on the firmware upgrades on the linksys site for the 1.0 version of the product are truly scary. Lots of nasty bugs fixed (no idea how many were not fixed). If you just bought the 1.0 version (label on bottom of product, no indication on box as far as I can tell), take it back and wait for 1.1 stock to show up.
Long short, the 1.1 version fired up fine for me. I'm a techie but I followed the directions anyway (!). The setup wizard ran fine. I configured WPA (not WPA2 -- I have a device that doesn't support it). Other than that, all default settings. Works great on MacBook Pro (with wireless N), 2 Lenovos running XP Pro (G) and an HP (G). Solid, reliable connection for all of them. Excellent signal strength compared to the ABG router it replaces. Speed is excellent (4Mb down) and I get at least 2x the distance.
Customer Review: Completely disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I've been a long time Linksys user and so when it came time to purchase wireless, it was a natural choice. One thing I've come to love about Linksys was it's tech support and almost effortless setup. Well... surprise... things have changed a bit there. I discovered very quickly that the company had been sold, and the NEW tech support was as good as useless. I called their team and told them of my need to service Internet over a large home, corner to corner. They sold me the WRT300N and several WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapters. Well, the closest one to the router is only 12 feet and it's constantly disconnecting and connecting and disconnecting and connecting. And all the current support team is good for is having me power cycle the router and computers, and checking the IP settings (which are all correct).
I'm prepared to take the loss and purchase another system, but my loyalty as a Linksys client is surely over.
As the title says, I'm simply completely disappointed.
