Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WMP54GS Wireless-G PCI Card with SpeedBoosterCustomer Review: Bad-Bad-Bad Summary: 1 Stars
My current setup includes an older model Linksys "B" router. After I built a new computer I decided to use the old Dell as a spare for the Grandkid in the rec room. This card installed and recognized the networks available but would not access the internet. Error message "Connected to the access point but cannot find the internet" Signal was 68 so had plenty. I tried many connections and even removed the clunky software that came with it and tried to access with the conventional method, no luck. It would not even connect to an unprotected network in the neighborhood. I do not know if the card is just not backwards compatible to the older "B" router but it is of no use to me. I also have two laptops that are working off this router perfectly. I spent a very non-productive hour online chatting to try and solve this problem with Linksys. They told me to call their special unit. I do not have time to spend half a day fixing their problems. I have availed myself for the first time with Amazons return policy.....
Customer Review: Great product !! Summary: 5 Stars
About 2 weeks ago I bought the WMP54GS for my PC and the WPC54GS for my notebook. The reason why I bought them was because I wanted to play some games against my cousin without the hassle of putting long wires throughout the house. I was not sure if I could get the desired speed between these computers to play the games without freezing or hang-ups. My other problem was that as far as networking goes my knowledge was slim to none. However, when I received these products and installed them in my PC and notebook I had some slight connection problems (probably my fault) but after 2 or 3 hours of struggling I got it to work and I am very , very satisfied with these products. The computers give me an almost constant connection speed of 54Mbps and as far as the gaming goes, there are no hang-ups or freezing. I also recently bought the WRT54GS router , but I haven't connected it yet because I am waiting for ADSL at home. As far as I am concerned ALL these products deserve 5 stars. Keep up the good work LINKSYS.
Customer Review: A very difficult company to deal with Summary: 1 Stars
This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.
So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.
Customer Review: Initial troubles, but now solid ... Summary: 4 Stars
My wireless system is hubbed on a Linksys WRT54GL Router tethered on my cable modem. My initial experience was troubled by access violations, followed by a blue screen MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION memory dump 75% of the time whenever I Restarted or total Rebooted the PC. The adapter install was on top of a fresh Windows XP install w/all the latest updates from MS. Contacted Linksys Chat Tech Support (tech was responsive) and was instructed to update the driver to the latest one for XP on their support download site. The 4.100.27.0 (11/30/2006) driver provided with the off-the-shelf unit touted Windows Vista support ... and had apparently broke some XP compatibility with that support. The replacement 3.100.46.0 (4/28/2005) driver for XP off their site provided the solution, and I've been up with no further problems. It was very frustrating initially, but I'm very pleased with the product and its performance now that I'm past the initial hurdle.
Customer Review: Customer service nightmare. Read before buying! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought a WMP54GS and it died after 2 months. I paid to have it sent off to Linksys and then paid to have it sent back to me because Linksys won't ship to an APO. The card they sent back was a refurbished one which begs the question "Why didn't I just buy a refurbished one to begin with and save money?" The thing that really made me mad was that the antenna that came with the card had been chewed on by a dog! It was mangled. I contact Linksys service and the first person I talk to basically tells me to just deal with it. I finally have to call and speak with someone else just to get them to say they'll check into what they can do. It takes a total of 6 emails and a long distance phone call from Okinawa just to get them to offer to replace it. Here's the catch though, I have to send the card and antenna back to them and again pay to have it shipped back to me. Nice to see Linksys
cares about their customers.
