Customer Review: Is it bad hardware, or bad support?
Summary: 1 Stars

This thing was squirrelly out of the box. The documentation is really, really poor. The set up software didn't find the device, and I changed into my networkman cape. Called support and they had me changing all sorts of network settings before they decided that it was "defective". I suspected that was just an excuse to get me off the phone, so I cycled the hardware a few times and got it working long enough to start the configuration process. After I uncabled it, it disappeared and when I recabled it reappeared, briefly. In the end I couldn't find it at all.

Numerous calls to support, and a missed dinner have me at the question: Is it bad hardware, or really bad support? Thing is, I don't care, it cost me too much time to sort out. And it ain't cheap! I'll have an RMA in the morning and a wireless bridge from someone else in a few days.

Customer Review: Works great, after I figured out how to set it up
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this item to connect a Brother 420CN all-in-one
to my wireless network. The printer has a built-in wired
print server.

The only problem I had with it was when I set it up using
a laptop. I was unable to detect the bridge until I manually
set the IP address of the laptop's ethernet port to be on
the same subnet (192.168.1.xxx) as the default on
the bridge. My pre-existing network is a D-Link which uses
192.168.0.xxx). Once I made this change, setup took about
a minute, and the bridge has worked fine since then.

The range is fine. My router is in my basement and the bridge
is on the second floor, with no connection problems
at all. The thing is a little expensive for what it is, but
it does what it's supposed to do.

Customer Review: Look elsewhere
Summary: 1 Stars

Have spend several hours trying to make this work reliably (surprisingly, with a Linksys WAP4400N access point). It performs way too badly to cost this much.

1) Version shipped is 3.1. Linksys' web site does not even list version 3.1 firmware. Last firmware release is for 3.0, back in 2007.
2) The configuration utility allows choice of WPA2. It does not work. only WPA/TKIP does work.
3) Don't bother with the CDROM. It did not detect the directly-attached bridge. Just use the Web-base configuration tool.
4) Even when it connected to my access point, it drops lots of packets. And loses connection after a few hours and has to be power-cycled.

This product just is not worth the hassle - look elsewhere. Returning product to Amazon as basically defective.

Customer Review: Works for me, now I have a wireless network printer
Summary: 5 Stars

I was hesitant to buy this at first after seeing so many bad reviews at this site from customers who haven't been able to make things work. But I got mine to work on the second try just by following the (admittedly very brief) instructions.
Thanks to this bridge I now have a wireless network printer tucked away in an out-of sight closet. I just plugged in the (very inexpensive) network-ready Brother 5250DN printer into the WET54G and the router assigned it a new IP address dynamically. Now I can print directly to a printer in the closet from any PC on the network.
My only complaint is price. I don't understand why I can buy a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with 4 wired ports for only $55 on Amazon but I have to pay almost 30 dollars more for a simple bridge from the same company.

Customer Review: Intermittent Wireless Connection
Summary: 2 Stars

I wanted to connect my new music server to my network and wanted to avoid running wires under the house. I tried this Linksys Wireless G ethernet bridge to connect it wirelessly.

After three hours on the phone with Linksys Tech Support, they concluded that my first unit was defective, so I returned it to Amazon and ordered a replacement.

The second unit worked - I was able to establish a wireless connection. Unfortunately, the reliability of the connection was very poor. It only seemed to be working for a few minutes and I eventually returned it and had to run an ethernet cable instead.

Fortunately, Amazon allowed me to return both units and provided a refund.

It's a great product in theory; but its execution left me disappointed.
