Customer Review: Great product, lousey tech support
Summary: 3 Stars

The product is great. Enables me to upgrade firmware for my electronic components and allows me to connect Wii to the internet from another room. BUT, about 85% of the time you can't just plug it in and it works so you have to call tech support. They had my network, my computer, my laptop, my router and the bridge so messed up that it took three days to get me back online on just my PC. Everyone I talked to had a different fix and by the time they finally sent me to the "advanced" person, it was such a mess I couldn't connect to the internet at all, from any of my connection points. I still can't connect to my network from my laptop. They've got it so messed up that my ipconfig reports one set of ip numbers and my router reports another so when I enter IPs for my HD player to download firware, it gets confused. Instead of sticking with it, they told me I'd have to call my laptop maker and my HD maker for fixes. Fixes that wouldn't have been needed had Linksys not screwed it up so badly.

Customer Review: The perfect solution for a remote office, especially with Linux
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone in our house uses computers a lot. We can't all be in the same room and a wireless card for each desktop computer would be more expensive. With the wireless bridge, we can have multiple computers in a remote locate (with a small switch) sharing the wireless connection.

Some computers run Linux and I didn't want to mess with trying to get a wireless card to work in Linux. So this gives better flexibility and is cheaper than buying a wireless card for each desktop computer, which is not right next to the router. If you don't have one already, buy a small (4-port) switch to go with the bridge to share the connection with multiple computers.

I thought about getting the N protocol router and bridge, but decided against it to save money because G is faster than the cable modem. For browsing the web, I can't tell the difference between using this versus a cable to the router. The bottle neck is the cable or DSL connection, not the wireless protocol (G vs N).

Customer Review: Great bridge; priced a bit high
Summary: 5 Stars

I was an early adoptor of wireless what seems nearly a decade ago, and have used Linksys products exclusively, and have helped friends and family use other products.

This was the easiest intallation of any Linksys product I've ever used (seven of them). I bought the brige to hook my young kid's Win98 machine to noggin.com.

I use a different IP range than the defaults (not 192.168.1.x). So for installation: I changed my router back to the default (192.168.1.1) and rebooted; then browsed the brigde (192.168.1.226) and used admin/admin as the username and password (most Linksys products use a blank for user id). I configured the bridge to my desired IP, and set my WEP security. I set my router back, and rebooted again.

I then hooked the bridge up to the Win98 machine; and was done! (I never used the CD)

PS. This was much easier than dealing with Win98 drivers on a wireless card; and, I'm able to place the antenna up higher than the CPU.

Customer Review: WET54G Bridge
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading the negative reviews about this product I was a little hesitant to buy it, but running an ethernet cable from my router all the way on the other side of the room to my blu-ray player would take atleast a 50ft cable, so I decided to give this a try. After about an hour on the phone with the right linksys rep (the first rep I talked to would not help me because I have a Netgear router. He said it couldn't be done so I called a second time) I was able to get the bridge configured correctly and working well with my Sony BDP-S550. At first my network would not detect the bridge..I had to hook the bridge up straight to the computer and manually configure it. I guess for the hour it took to configure the bridge, I could have ran an ethernet cable from the router to the blu-ray but overall, im pleased with my purchase. Definitely beats running the ethernet cable along the walls and doorways and base boards. Hope this helps someone.

Customer Review: Very unreliable!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have to join the chorus of negative reviews of this product. I bought the WET54G and the WRT54G to replace a non-standard (RadioLan) wireless connection. My first suspicion that this might not be a quality product was when I noticed the Ethernet plug wouldn't lock into place. I thought the install was straightforward, and I was initially please with the speed and reliability, but after several days of continuous use the connection began to get fairly flaky, and finally the unit couldn't detect ANY of the numerous wireless networks that suround me. In the meantime, my Apple iBook sitting 3 feet away had no problem setting up a reliable link to the WRT54g. I have more money then time, and didn't want to hassle with customer support, so I foolishly bought a 2nd unit, thinking perhaps I had just picked up a lemon. Same symptoms: an initial honyemoon, increasing unreliability, and finally total failure. I STRONGLY advise against this item.
