Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WAP54G Wireless-G Access PointCustomer Review: Awesome Product - PERIOD !! Summary: 5 Stars
THis is an awesome product, handsdown !! THe set-up is easy (takes about 15 minutes total) and the functionality is impressive. I can be 330 feet away (yes, we measured it!!) at our swimming pool area, transmitting through 3 walls ane one solid 8 foot fence and still be able to use my laptop perfectly !!
Don't waste your money on the other manufacturer's inferior products, use the leader in the industry (Cisco) and be done with it. I have read the so-called "negative" comments from other users and truly feel it is just other manufacturers employees told to submit phony "bad claims" while they sit at their desks!
I might add that my neighbor works in UC Berkeley's IT hub and he also said that this Linksys product is the one that they recommend to students and faculty alike for both lab and home use applications. He said the value proposition of this product and its consistent reliability make it the clear leader for wireless access points. I'd give this 7 stars if I coul....it is an excellent product !!
Customer Review: Does extend my coverage! Yay! But a little tricky to set up. Summary: 4 Stars
First off, I'm very pleased with the end result. It does in fact extend the reach and coverage of my original wireless router generously and consistently. I am using this solely as an access point to "throw" the wireless signal farther in my home and yard. And it definitely works! I used to have one bar in my basement, and now I have full bars (partially due to putting the access point in a more central location than my original wireless router.)
That being said, it took a few long phone calls to Linksys Tech Support to get me there. I'm not sure who is lucky enough to get everything working with the "easy setup CD", but it's never been me with Linksys products, this one included. But it must've been within warranty and so it was a free tech support call. And I must say they were very friendly and patient, and with much configuration, helped me to get it working. Yay!
So I would recommend this product, but just be prepared that it might not be as easy to set up as the box claims! :)
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this WAP since I already had a Linksys 4-port router. This WAP is the perfect complement to the router, and it works well.I followed the quickstart guide and the setup went as described, including configuring WEP from the start. No reset was required after using the configuration tool on the CD. Next, I installed the separately purchased Linksys Wireless-G PCI card in a PC across the house without problems. The PC's orientation is worst-case, directly in line with the WAP and NIC antennas. But signal strength is "good", and it's getting 18Mbps connection rates. Not bad for being totally blocked. In half an hour the wireless network was running, and had WEP protection from the get-go. I've used Linksys products for a few years, and while their support is lacking, the products work very well. Also, I have cordless phones also on the 2.4GHz range. They have not been affected, and others I have talked to said their 2.4GHz phones have coexisted with this particular WAP.
Customer Review: Works fine, but setup is a pain Summary: 4 Stars
I have two desktop computers connected to a Linksys WRT54G router and two wireless laptops. I have a large 1800's farm house with many room and walls. I also have steel siding that probably adds to the problem. I could connect to the network with the laptops in the front of the house but not the back, about 40-50 feet away. I have a cable running from the router to the back of the house so I got the Linksys WAP54G Wireless-G Access Point. I plugged it in, ran the installation disk and it worked -- sort of. I could connect to all of the other computers but I couldn't connect to the internet (Local only). I checked all of the settings and read many forums and nothing worked. After hours of frustration I shutdown all of the computers and the modem, router and the access point and called it a night. The next morning when I turned it on (you guessed it) it worked. Don't ask me what I did because I don't have a clue. This access point works flawlessly and now I have coverage over my entire house.

8/10/2006: After some early and initial troubles with issues that seemed to be stemming from this router, after many more months of use, i have changed my mind about this router. It has actually provided solid quality during the past months. I don't know why it's not giving me the old problems it did...maybe it was too close to another electrical device or maybe I had some settings set incorrectly.
2005-2006: I get disconnected at least 3 or 4 times a day using these linksys wireless routers. Do your research and buy something like netgear or dlink. At first, i thought it was just one bad apple. However, I currently own 3 linksys routers and dozens of wireless pc and laptop cards, and all of them are giving me problems.
Stay away from these linksys routers. At best, each time i get disconnected i have to restart my pc and the router and wait 10 minutes to get back online again. if you're doing something important, forget it!
