Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys PSUS4 PrintServer for USB with 4 Port SwitchCustomer Review: kinda works Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using this print server for over a year. I have 4 wired and 3 wireless computers around the house. Setup was not that bad. Better documentaion would have made it easier.
Like I said I have a variety of PCs but the only printer I have run on this is a Canon i550. All of the PCs are running XP home edition.
Ever since I installed the print server I get "printer not reponding" errors even though the document does print.
Quite often I get a "print error" message. When I get this message I have to go to the print server, unplug the AC and plug it back in.
I tried Linksys suppor they were of very little help so I have lived with it until now. I am looking for a replacement for this device because my family has got tired of running up and down the stairs to unplug the print server.
Customer Review: Setup on a Mac is painful Summary: 3 Stars
Linksys (Cisco) appears to believe that the only computer operating system is Windows. If you have a Mac running OSX, the setup disk makes a good coaster, or a sun catcher, or anything else but what it was intended for. Prepare to search the Internet for the support that Cisco won't/can't provide. If you are using a Mac because you are not a computer person, look for another print server.
I got the print server running after an hour and a half of trying this tip and that tip from the Web. If you're a Windows user, it might be easier to set up but I'll never know. If you do buy this server and find the correct configuration advice, print it and frame it and sell it to your Mac friends because you will have a hard time remembering how to do it later if you need to.
Are you listening Cisco?
Customer Review: Won't work with Canon MultiPass Summary: 1 Stars
I received this unit and could not get it to work with a Canon Multipass F60. Customer service at Linksys tried for about an hour to talk me through setting it up before admitting that it probably wouldn't work because the printer was a multifunction or "all-in-one" model. I was referred to one service rep after another and finally got someone to tell me that this unit WILL DEFINITELY NOT WORK with my particular printer. I appreciated their coming clean about it but I wish they had mentioned that in the production description posted on Amazon.com. I got my money back from TigerDirect.com but I had to pay for shipping which I thought was unfair. You may want to do what Linksys advised me to do after-the-fact, call your printer manufacturer and ask which USB printservers will work with your particular model.
Customer Review: Not up to usual Linsys standards Summary: 2 Stars
In several attempts, I could not make this device print. A little later, the integrated 10/100 switch failed. I'm a Linksys fan (many of their devices in my network), so I bought same unit as a replacement. Hmmm, this one was dead out of the box too (couldn't even configure it).
Linksys tech support was very friendly, but offered only stuff I already knew & concluded the unit was defective. What are the odds?
I have two other print servers (not Linksys) working on a network with Linksys router, switches & WAPs; I'm certainly not a tech newbie.
Linksys is having some serious technical problems with this product. It tarnishes their otherwise glittering reputation for solid, value-priced SOHO network gear. I recommend staying away from this particular product.
Customer Review: Defective out of the box Summary: 1 Stars
I can't say I wasn't warned, as I had to dig behind 11 returned PSUS4's at my local Fry's to find the one that was factory fresh. After installation, the setup software was able to find the print server on wireless networked computers, but not on wired, even when configured and plugged directly into the PSUS4. I was able to configure the PSUS4 wireless, but was not able to print. It turns out the PSUS4 is not compatible with my HP G85xi. Before throwing it out, I gave it to my IT guy, who had the same problems, and couldn't get it to work on any of his 3 printers. I purchased a Linksys EPSX3 (Parallel print server), setup was a breeze, and within an hour I had 3 computers printing on 2 printers.
My recommendation is to throw a dart and pick any other print server than this.
