Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys High Gain Antenna Kit for TNC Connectors HGA7TCustomer Review: cheaper alternative Summary: 3 Stars
I was going to buy the high gain antenna but find the info regarding building your own directional antenna
http://www.freeantennas.com/prod03.htm
I download the template and built the add on to my antenna in about 10 minutes out of cardbox and some left over wire mash screen that I had to cover the gutter from leaves. My before signal strength was about 50%, the after is 75%. Keep in mind if you need to increase the radio signal for 360 degrees, then buy the high gain but if you just have a problem of one of the computer in your house not getting a good signal then go to the above site.
Customer Review: Did not help with my reception problem Summary: 1 Stars
I had a bad spot in my house where my wireless signal was almost non-existent (everything is on the same floor) -- unfortunately this bad spot is where a desktop computer with a wireless PCI card lives. I first tried a Hawking high gain directional antenna at the desktop (i.e. receiving end). This seemed to help a little, but the signal was still unreliable. I then tried the Linksys high-gain antenna kit in the hopes of boosting the signal from the router to an exceptable level, but it did not seem to help AT ALL. I have since given up and am going with the wired option to this computer.
Customer Review: Range increase moderate Summary: 4 Stars
Measuring the signal strength produced after installing the new antennas I noticed a 10%-15% increase in signal strength from 60 dBi to 50-55 dBi range at a distance of 30 feet and through two walls. The signal to noise ratio was also increased. The cost of the new antennas is almost the same as the router itself and I would only recommend these if all else fails. Test differing channels to avoid interference. Try to install the router in a central location or on top of a bookshelf would probably aid just as much as procuring these antennas. They do however provide the 7 dBi gain promised.
Customer Review: Great Product!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these antennas to replace the original one's on the wireless-G broadband router, because I was getting a very weak signal to none in the bedroom. My wireless router is in the front of the house while the computer is towards the back. Furthermore, the little antenna on my wmp54g wireless-g pci is hidden behind the computer desk. This is may be another reason while my signal is so weak? I installed these high gain antennas on the router and even bought an antenna stand and the hga7t antenna to replace the antenna on the wireless-g pci adapter and now my signal is excellent.
Customer Review: Little improvement Summary: 3 Stars
I purchase the product and although some improvement was noticed, my expectation was not achieved. I have a router installed in my bedroom and the wireless signal in my living room was merely poor/low. After I installed the signal is now between low/good. Both rooms are on the same floor, so omnidirectional should work fine.
In summary: I suggest changing signal channel, changing phone handset frequency and moving away objects that can jeopardize signal quality, such as fish tanks and microwave. After you've done it all, then you should consider buying these antennas.
