I have to admit that I experienced the same thing as some of the other reviewers... at two different locations... Bought the switch, it worked great. Later, it brought the network to it's knees. Transfer rates were the equivilent of a 33.6 modem, ACROSS THE LAN. I would not recommend this product, ESPECIALLY since other people have experienced the same things. The good reviews? It was a new item, in pristine condition.
The product worked as described, very good network response times for the planned XBox 360 Halo fest. This unit did not assign IP addesses -- nor was it supposed to. It wasn't supposed to be a router that would offer DNS or DHCP services. Network/Game performance to the users was noticably faster than with a 4 port router we used previously.

I have been using this Linksys Switch for over 3 years and have never ran into a issue. All my transfers complete without fail. Up until this year though I have only have 1 or two items pluged into it at a time, but now I am using all 8 ports all the time, no collisions or failed transfers.
Might be that because I got one of the first generation of this model that mine is a higher quality than the people that have had failed ones. Or im just lucky.

I ordered 3 switches that arrived on time. Two were put in service without a hitch. The third was inoperable. The wrong transformer was supplied in the shipment with the switch. I sent an alert to the supplier through the Amazon system with no response after 30 days. I tried to find another way to contact the supplier and find that they may no longer exist. The net cost of the switches would be about the same had I bought new through a reputable supplier.Customer Review: Best thing for networking

If you want to do some fast networking you need to pickup a switcher and not a hub. I've always found Linksys to be really good and way much cheaper. Having a 100mb switcher is nice and a lot faster then a plain hub. Setup is very easy.The only down point is that the power cable doesn't hold tight enough to the back of the switcher, so any minor shake will reset the switcher. I still give it 5 stars because of the great price and performance.
