Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch

Customer Review: Sweet little switch
Summary: 5 Stars

I suppose there isn't much I can say about this switch that hasn't already been said, but I'm trying to improve my Amazon recommendations by reviewing items, so...

This little switch is a beauty. It just works. This is one of those items that's invisible when it's working properly, and you really don't even notice it. It's compact size ( despite the listed dimensions on Amazon ) makes it very portable for those impromptu LANs, and it just looks good. You'd do well getting one. There are frequently offers for this item, so try not to pay full price. Also, the pictured item doesn't seem to match with the actual switch, so be certain which you're getting, I suppose.

Customer Review: Works.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this little switch because my home network has expended a bit recently. I had been using 4 port netgear wireless router to hook up everything and had already ran a wire to the basement of my house for the Xbox 360. When I added another computer in the basement I needed to be able to run an ethernet cable to it but didn't want to run another cable to the basement. I bought this and hooked up the computer and the 360. I can use both at the same time and it doesn't effect the rest of my network upstairs. I still can connect the 360 as a media center extender and stream music from any of my connected computers. In summary this switch works exactly like I expected.

Customer Review: WORKS WELL WITH MAC'S APPLE-TALK (for me)
Summary: 5 Stars

Linksys tech support assured me that their were no limitations to this gizmos ability to route ethernet signals. Sure enough, I plugged it in and it's functioning exactly as I hoped. Our internet comes from a cable modem. From that I ran the cat-5 ethernet cable to the Airport Extreem which acts as a wireless router and it also has 1 out port for ethernet, which I connected the EZXS55W switch to. Off the switch I am running a printer (Laserwriter Pro 630) and a desk top G-4. I also have 3 wireless computers on the network and all are running OS-X. All can access the internet, I can print from any computer and fileshare between the whole lot. I couldn't ask for more!

Customer Review: Useless
Summary: 1 Stars

I wont even get into Tech Support. After owning multiple Linksys products from pre-Cisco days to present (lets say 1998-2011) I feel they are in a downward spiral. My original BEFSR41 home cable/DSL router still works fast and reliably. This device purchased only a couple of months ago fails on an almost predictable 2 week cycle. It appears the firmware running on this device uses more and more resources without recycling them and eventually stops working altogether. For the same price you can get the same functionality, most likely better performance and reliability, and undoubtedly better customer service from almost any of the other manufacturers.

Customer Review: Watch Out for Tech Support Costs!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

They had free support until just very recently. My beef is with the EXTREME cost of support, 3.99 a minute. ( I don't know if that includes listening for many minutes to bad music.) You can get 3 months support for $199, 6 months for $299 or 1 year for $499!!! I can tell you I spent many hours talking to tech support before this recent change of events. I have had my Linksys router for 3 years. I also had to get a bridge to extend the range because it couldn't go through walls very well. I had to call them a lot because sometimes the bridge or router somehow lost the address. You will need tech support now and again when you change ISPs, go elsewhere.
