Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup SwitchCustomer Review: Warranty support is terrible Summary: 1 Stars
I bought two EZXS55W units. One worked for nine months before two ports failed. I called Linksys to have it replaced and they told me I had to ship the unit to them before I got my replacement. I talked them into sending a replacment to me first so I could use the same box to return the defective unit. Then they said they would charge my credit card for the full MSRP until they received the failed unit, plus I had to pay for the shipping back to them. I refused, talked to a supervisor, and still no joy. The shipping would cost me almost as much as a new unit. This feedback is not just about the EZXS55W. It's about the company in general. They represent the typical greedy big business with their attitude concerning customer service and their products fail too often. I had two of their routers fail as well. No more Cisco/Linksys for me.
Customer Review: Will NOT work with XBOX Live! Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this switch because we have two desktops, a laptop, XBOX Live, and a PS2 broadband adapter - the latter three of which are in my bedroom. I didn't want to have three wires running from my router in the hallway into my bedroom, so I thought a switch would be the way to go. [For those who don't know, hubs divide the bandwidth between all connected devices, while switches will distribute 100 mbps to EACH connected device. An important factor for online gaming.] This little switch, and I DO mean little, is very compact, attractive and seems well-built. I felt very excited by its appearance upon opening it. Unfortunately, it did not serve my purpose as it would not work with XBOX Live. It worked seemlessly with my laptop and PS2 though, so if it's needed for computers only, I think it's an excellent little switch and would rate it a 5.
Customer Review: Terrible Switch--Shame on you Linksys Summary: 1 Stars
I have noticed the gradual decline in Linksys product quality over the last couple of years, and this switch is the absolute worst product I have seen yet. We bought this switch for our office to handle a couple of network printers, and over the last two months, two of the ports are comletely dead and a third one is starting to go. What gives? Sorry, but this one is getting exchanged for another vendor's switch...
I also have a WRT54G V2 wireless router that does cirles around the new V6 we bought. Not only does the V6 drop connection more often but it has other strange behavior as well. We had a power blip at our remote location and the router totally shut down and rebooted itself into factory default mode. Not to mention that they have downgraded the internal memory, etc. Product support is a joke too. Linksys, Review: Switch Does The Job Summary: 5 Stars
Great switch and works.
I have only minimal knowledge about networks. All I wanted was my Tivo box to connect to my computer upstairs via a network cable, with an extra port provided by the switch downstairs for a computer to act as a media center to control stored tv programs and movies. I briefly read the manual online (to see which outlet was the upstream outlet), plugged in the cables, and the box worked without any need to reboot the Tivo, or alter any setting on the modem, router, or switch.
Network has been stable since setting it up, and problem free.
Network is comprised of Linksys/Cisco broadband router, a Linksys/Cisco wireless hub which is connected to the switch via a cable since the wireless link would not stay stable to permit a whole program to transfer via Tivo Desktop.
Customer Review: Drop it in and see the speed boost Summary: 5 Stars
I have had an aging 10mbps linksys hub as the core of my small home network for several years. Even though I was happy with it, I bought one of these, primarily because it was cheap and thought having a 'spare' couldn't hurt.
I had no idea how much that aging piece of equipment was slowing down my network! Almost everything I have now is 10/100, so dropping in this switch made my whole network a heck of a lot faster. Furthermore, as a switch (as opposed to a hub), it is much more efficient with the use of the network - traffic isn't broadcast everywhere, only to the nodes that need it.
I am VERY happy with this purchase. Cheap, fast, and drop-in simple installation to my existing network. I decided to purchase another as a 'spare' and donate my older hub to history.
